Just used the download link from that site.. It worked like a charm! Finally iOS 4!! Very excited right now

install soooooooooo slooooooow

Does anyone know why this happens? I gave up the first time yesterday because after 3 hours I had to actually use my phone and it wasn't even near 10% complete WTF? Found this article which tells me to basically delete pics and movs from the phone

http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/21/iphone-backups-slow/

so I did that and the initial backup sped up but then the OS install started to go through the stupid slow 'restore' process.

All said and done I started this AM at 6 and now finally finished at nearly 2:30pm. I have an 8GB iPhone, how is it even possible to take that slow to copy 8GB over USB 2.0?? Makes no sense, I would love a technical reason for this because clearly something else is going on.

In other news, I am excited to have OS4 on my iPhone! Time to jailbreak!

Oh I should add that I also removed a bunch of apps before the install too, it was genuinely faster to delete and re-add apps after the install than to bring any additional data over the slowmo backup.

argh

this is funny

Hahahahaha I'm going insane.
I started backup last night at 9pm, and it took 2 hours to get to the A. I left it running overnight, and when I got to the computer at 8am, it was almost done. My mom, who is bad with computers needed to check her email. When I came back, she had EXITED OUT OF ITUNES! She said she wanted to minimize (which requires pressing 'STOP' on backup) and denyed pressing 'STOP'. I want to hurt her right now...... and shes acting like she did nothing wrong.

I've found a solution!!!

I'm a dummy when it comes to my iphone and thank heavens I've found a simple way of backing up my 3GS without having to wait hours and hours and getting nowhere with a message that my connection has been disconnected. Firstly, I exit the backup and sync the rest of my applications i.e. photos, music, etc. Then I open a new USER ADMINSTRATION, download Itunes, once thats done, plug the iphone on the USB, once it tells you to back up click DO NOT BACK UP! Your iphone will back up as new, just like when you first bought the product. Once its finished, unplug your iphone, switch to your original USER ACCOUNT and do backup as normal, it took less than 10 mins to back up! Don't worry about contacts or calender dates, they will still be there and I'm so happy with myself that I could buy you guys a round of drinks!:D Lastly, my ipod touch 2nd generation didn't do so well, it shall remain with the dinosaurs unfortunately.:(
