Um...but let's say that a platform does become the definition of perfect...

EVERYBODY has what they want and it works all the time, and there are zero complaints, ever.

Is it the ultimate product, or the ultimate fan device?

Really?! A screaming alarm and a big alert window on your lock screen to warn you of an upcoming event is fail?!

Just how much ARE you smoking, then?!

Yes because if I'm not by the phone the one time it goes off and I happen to get a call before I see it, it's gone.

What are you smoking that you can't understand this?

Reading through the alert options:

"Alert
Second Alert"

XD

Don't see this in my settings.

Well, I just got up and running on GM 4.0. I have to say that after all the nice updates and features, one of the most basic (and often most asked for) is missing.

What I really need is a 'locked' home screen that allows me to show information from my Calendar, etc. I can't tell you how many birthdays, and other important dates I've missed by not knowing about them, and the alternative is to check the Calendar every single day, but this gets redundant and is an extra task that doesn't need to happen is iOS had a proper Home screen.

Seriously... I need to email Steve about this.

I approve of this message. Way back in the day when i had a Windows Mobile phone one of the best things was having my to-do list and schedule right on the home screen when i turned it on. That was 6 years ago! C'mon Steve!

there are a couple ways to solve everyone's problems: jailbreak or DON'T BUY THE PHONE.

it's amazing how much people complain about a product but continue to buy it. if a feature really matters to you then vote with your money.

fyi the lockinfo program is really nice. I used to use it on my 3G all the time.

"iOS4 missing the most basic feature"

Surely the most basic feature is the ability to make a phone call with it...

AND SNOOZE!!!

Just because the product is good, doesn't mean it is perfect. And there is no reason people should not feel free to express what they feel is not perfect about it.

True, it's often missing that as well. :p

I agree that I will be jailbreaking iOS 4 as soon as possible and installing lockinfo, so I do wish that Apple were to implement this so I wouldn't have to.... BUT think about this: If Apple were to put in all these fantastic things into the OS, where could they improve later? People may get so bored with their phones after 2 or 3 years of nothing new that they might just jump ship to something else JUST to have something different. I'll be buying the iPhone 4 most likely the day it comes out, and it's BECAUSE Apple is still able to add things to the phone to make it wanted.

I would have much prefered a new home screen and notification system over Face Time which I doubt I'll ever use. I've got webcams now that go unused.

I'm curious about the 'Home' feature, does it change with iOS4?

Today, it maps to Home, Search, Phone favorites, Camera and iPod. It would be nice if it could be mapped to go to 'Today' in my calendar..

I don't want my appointments on my lockscreen.

Right... the "Love it or Leave it" option. Apple must hate fans like you. The last thing they want is people to stop buying their products just because some items are missing.

You seem to only see things in black or white. (see above)

A feature can be important to someone without being the final deciding factor.

People talk all the time about features their cars are missing, from cup holders to whatever. It doesn't mean they need to, or want to, buy a different model.

If people only bought items with all their desired features, the iPhone would've been DOA.

it is not love it or leave it. jailbreak is an option.
im just saying some people blow a lot of things out of proportion.

Definitely NOT complaining. I love the new OS. The one thing I was hoping for was a notification system up by the clock (like on jailbroken devices) with symbols for Messages, Calendar Events, Voicemails, Missed Calls etc...

It just makes sense.

However, consider the alternative I'm not straying away from the iPhone and I'm definitely not considering jailbreaking again.

The easiest fix would be adding a notification badge to the calendar icon to alert you SOMETHING is upcoming. At least you would know you should check your calendar.

Of course, that is the bare minimum Apple could do. So expect it soon.

Well if you've never heard of it, it doesn't exist.

Oops, no.

Never said it didn't exist but I suspected you were gonna throw some one-off iPhone sided solution back. This is not a repeat of all alerts at the system level, this is a second alert on specific meetings created in the iPhone.

This is not how I use my phone. I create my meetings in Outlook and they are synced through Exchange. So yeah...still a big fail.

Alerts should repeat system-wide until they can either A) be dismissed or B) set to snooze for a configurable amount of time.

this is something i miss from windows mobile but it's not been a huge problem if you remember to set reminders.

real annoyance for me is not resending text's when the signal drops but then thats not often either.

The feature would be great.

If/When they added this, Im sure you would find another "the basic feature" that is missing.

OP, I just went to birthdayalarm.com an year or so ago, and manually added the birthday's anniversaries and important days and even holidays of everyone I know.

Best decision I made. It sends me an email a week or so before the day basically giving me a heads up to buy a present or whatever. And it sends me another email at 11:30 pm the night before, so I remember to call the person the next day.

sync with gmail's calender and you can get email alerts and text message alerts. Anymore I like email alerts as they are not as annoying.
