Nope.
I went from a Spirit 3.1.3 (whatever) to the GM and it just wipes out the phone as new.
When I went back to 3.1.3, it went into a loop which I was able to fix.
In other words, you shouldn't have an issue upgrading.

thakns man care to pm me how you fuxed the boot loop incase i decide to downgrade?

Downloaded and updated iPod in under 10min... I have about 30GB of data on it but had just done a back up prior to the update

Now to do my wife's :D

Iphone update

iTunes backed up my phone 3 times in the software update process. I'm my phone is 300% backed up now, it wouldn't be a problem but it takes too damn long to backup my phone even without videos or pictures in it!

Did you just pull that out of your hat? I sync my phone multiple times a day and my backup time was still quite lengthy.

To be fair, he didn't say those who do will have shorter back-up time.

I sync my ipod touch a couple of times a day. It usually takes no more than a couple of minutes. But now it has been half hour and the progress bar is a pathetic thin blue line, not even a "bar" yet.

Podcasts Syncing

Anyone have a smart playlist comprised solely of podcasts. I'm interested in whether iOS4 reintroduces the ability to sync these playlists to an iphone/ipod touch. That function disappeared under iOS3.

Also, shuffle albums? (I really doubt this, but thought I'd ask).

Thanks

Does it seem like it is making the 3GS kind of "jumpy?" The update makes it run slower and kind of reminds me of my Windows Mobile Phone years *shudder*

And it starts....

Folks - you seriously might want to hold off for the first patch release. This version has some issues. Yes, things work....eventually. If you like a responsive experience - wait a week or two.

Installed and purring

Install went flawlessly for me. Download to install was <30 minutes. This whole app switching thing will take some getting use to. Two clicks works as expected even for old apps, it keeps them running in the background. One click kills some apps, but not others (ie pandora). I'm not fully getting the pattern on this one yet

And I can't help myself, everything is snappier! Smoother transitions and animations across all screens and apps.

Also, fonts seem to look a little better, is it just my rose colored glasses?

I think backup time is based on all kinds of weird things.

My 3G used to take 24 hours to backup, I upgraded from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 a couple weeks ago and now it takes 2 to 3 mins tops for the phone to backup.

No clue exactly why it makes a difference, but there is no question that the OS change is what did it.

In my experience, backups in iTunes take a lot longer if I haven't done it in a while. Frequent backups do seem to run quicker, although still extremely slow.

All done :)

Fake. Full reception on T-Mobile NL, haha. ;)

The download bar stops moving when I look at it.. It's like it knows im staring at it...soon as i switch to my browser to something else and come back...its moved... reminds me of my refrigerator light...

iOS 4 is OUT! You can upgrade in iTunes, or via manual download from the links below. Then, you can install the new software in iTunes by holding the Alt/Option key (for Mac users) or Shift key (for Windows users) while pressing the "Check for Update" button in iTunes, and selecting the downloaded IPSW from your drive.

I recommend downloading it while it's hot, since Apple's servers will quickly get overloaded with users trying to get the new software.

Once downloaded directly how does someone get them in place so that iTunes sees it and allows you to install it ?

Just a heads up, that iOS4 uses way way more battery, like it really kills your battery. I am getting something like 30% less battery now on my 3GS.

But hey, the faster camera is so damn nice!

Have you thought about the load on their servers? No, I guess not. If you are the average user then you are a fool by updating right away. Always wait 2 hours.

No moron, it would actually have to find the update first. The update does not even start to download it says it does not find an update at all. I am not an average user either. I'd rock your ass as OS X and in hardware.

Game Center missing?

Hi there!
Writing from Spain, update finished 7:09 pm :).

I try the 'GM' release a few days ago and it installed a "Game Center" icon,
but isn't installed with this 'official' update.

Anyone see the same?

Thanks!

Guys guys guys! Enough about how long it takes to download on your computer. I'm more of curious what are the 100 new features?? (Because I'm stuck at work).:eek:

Details details!:D

Read the first part of my post :p

You just hold alt/option or shift while pressing "Check for Update" in iTunes and navigate to the file.
