i have been stuck on the backing up iphone screen with the green bar at like 5% for about 25 minutes now!

Question...

Downloading now at the Apple store, but it says it will take over an hour to backup before fully installing on iPhone. I'll have to go back to work for that after it's downloaded... but no WiFi at work... will I need internet access to update the phone itself after it's fully downloaded?

They will have to. I was profiling it the other day (testing out my own apps - good news, they work...phew :), and it was just pissing away memory. After about 5 hours of heavy usage - it became almost non responsive. Apps would take a full 5 seconds to open, keyboard would take about 10 to open after clicking a text field, and Safari was unusable - checkerboard city.

Watch this. People are going to flip out.

Sounds like a problem with your app. I too am a developer, and I haven't ever had a problem or had to reboot the GM build.

Just downloaded installed etcetera and for the first time ever I'm dissapointed with my 3G. I just can't bring myself (afford to) get rid of you though you wonderful, wonderful b*****d.

can i stop the backup process without ruining anything? its taking fooooorrrrreeeeeevvvveeeerrrrr

Nope it will just stop the process. The first 1/4 did seem to take a long time and then the rest went really quickly. I back up at least once a day.

It is currently restoring my phone from the backup.

Me, too

emir. Back up is either stalled or taking forever. Little bar has barely moved. To unplug or not unplug, that is the question.

they might sync more often? Mine is taking forever but I can't tell you the last time I sync'ed it

My backup started slow, but finished surprisingly quickly. Now verifying software after restoring from backup. iPhone 3G (not S)

There is no issue with memory leaks. It does require a lot more memory though. 3G has only a mere 128mb of ram, so its gonna be pretty weak.

I profiled it myself - with Apples own development tools. Trust me. It leaks like a sieve.

Thanks! Apologies if this is obvious, but doesn't that mean I'll need to do a restore anyway and therefore resync everything? Last time it took the better part of a day so I'd like to avoid using restore if possible.

Nope, you can do a manual update without doing a full restore.

PERFECT!

That's not comforting. I won't be upgrading until they fix this then, I use the feature all the time and I'd feel naked without it. What model iPhone did you try it on?

I'll submit a feedback request at http://www.apple.com/feedback

I suggest you and anyone else with the issue does the same, this definitely needs fixing.

Find My iPhone has worked fine on the GM Seed for me on my 3GS. It only didn't work with the early betas.

iPhone SDK 4 just went live at the developers site.

That is for non-iPhone Developer Program members.

Don't know what to tell you man. Mine has been flawless. I have a realtime activity monitor that displays all processes, memory, cpu etc. Been running like a champ for months.

One of my apps does have a couple new leaks introduced with the new API, but they are small. No, the phone became unresponsive after JUST using Apples own applications. Mail/Safari/MMS mostly.

You have a 3g and not a 3gs right? My 3gs seems to be a lot better off.

iBooks Not Yet Available

It doesn't appear that iBooks comes with the software update. It says it must be downloaded from the App Store, however it is currently not available in the App Store.

Anyone else having this problem?
