Wow. You need to calm down. Are you using Gmail Exchange for calendars? Go look at the settings on your phone.

Has nothing to do with that. I didn't change anything.

My google calendar is still there and I just tested...

Lucky you.

It is possible that the fake exchange from Google no longer works on iOS 4.0. Real exchange should work though.

Anyone having issues with google contacts/calendars not showing on their phone needs to just wait.

I don't believe that this is the solution.

Good news anyway. It seems that they are aware of the problem. Don't change anything in your iPhone calendar, iCal (Mac) or Google Calendar settings!

A Google employee:

Thanks for all the reports. Unfortunately, Google Sync has been undergoing an unplanned maintenance this afternoon, and we have been working to fully restore the service. This has affected Gmail, Calendar, and contacts sync on all devices today since 10am, PST. Our primary focus is to get the service 100% stable again for all devices, and we're concurrently running tests on iOS4 specifically to troubleshoot any particular issues with the upgrade.

Again, we appreciate your patience as we work to improve Google Sync.
Robin

i updated my 3g to iOS 4 and i won't be getting iPhone 4 cause i can't afford it, i guess. :(

well anyways battery life isn't that bad. After 3 hours of usage and 6 hours of standby, something looking like 40% left on my 3G. Since we don't have percentage indicator, we must guess. Oh btw it was connected to wifi and 3g was on, brightness full. Not bad at all.

Am I missing something...? Is the game centre application compatible with an iPhone 3G? Do you have to download it from the app store, because after updating to iOS4, I can't see it anywhere...

I can't either on 3GS.

But I'm actually loving this OS, it's good enough for me, don't think I need iPhone 4!

@antster94: Good to know that iOS4 runs great on the 3GS, however on the 3G, to use the word 'speedier' is a bit vague... Yes it opens the application super fast, but it doesn't actually load fast, it just lags with a blank screen for a few seconds... I've also noticed that typing has a massive lag, and I'm beginning to get annoyed with it, oh well...

It should tie me over for a couple more months until I pick up the white iPhone 4!:) Just can't decide whether to go for a 32GB or just stick with another 16GB. I guess I got some time to think it over...

Game Center isn't out yet. It was in some (all?) of the developer builds but Apple clearly said that was coming later in the year.

Total process of update has taken me 4 hours. Two hours of which were on the initial back up alone.

Early 3G update experiences!

- wonkiness with update process. DO make sure you allow a full back up before jumping into update (and then going straight to restore route is best). Seemed pretty erratic for me, and during a final iTunes sync my 3G went to home screen while the sync was still in progress! DON'T disconnect without checking iTunes to be sure it's done ... else you're in for another time eating restore.

- Got the grainy photo syndrome at first ... and re-syncing fixed. Music magically showed up in the end, but only after a few reboots helped the iPod app to get going. If you have lot's of photo's your prayers have been answered.
AT LAST events and albums translate to the iPhone. Scrolling through even a 1000 photo's (5% of my iPhoto database) was getting mighty boring!

- Stuttering performance ... UPDATE APPS ... and keep an eye out as developers catch up with new iOS. DO a hard reset on the phone at some point (home + power button until the slider shows up).

- Pleasant surprises and annoying trip ups await

Wait patiently for iOS 4.0.1 ;)

my went pretty smooth once I got past the download connection reset errors. Took me about 7 minutes to download and 10 for it to install. I didn't have to restore from backup or setup as new or anything. not to figure out how to arrange folders!

Last night, as soon as I could get home from work I set up my environment for an upgrade party including changing into a comfortable t-shirt & shorts, putting some music in the background & ordered pizza.

I started upgrading within 2 hours of iOS 4 availability via iTunes. The download was done within two slices of pizza. I think it took a little over an hour for the entire upgrade process.

Now iOS 4 is running smoothly on my 3Gs. I don't see any glitches nor any hit in battery life so far today, so nothing to complain about.

One bad habit I am forming is bringing up the list of apps running in the background to see if I can kill any apps I know are not needed. I'm going to stop doing this. This is something Apple focussed on getting right. It should be fine to leave apps running in the background.

I felt the urge to do that, too, but remember to tell yourself: the apps aren't actually running, they're paused.

But sometimes the list of apps can get very long, where you have to scroll to actually get an app that can run in the background.

press and hold (like you're going to delete), then drag it onto another icon and they'll make a folder. :)

Can anyone who's running iOS 4 confirm whether or not wifi stays on while in sleep mode?

Camera Roll after update on 3G

It took about 5 hours to finish updating, the only thing funky was that it restored to an older camera roll so I'm missing the latest photos (which I have downloaded to the MAC) I'm thinking it was because I had been using Genius to take my latest photos. In any case it's not running slower and looks like I didn't lose anything else.

Cheers,

Joe

I came onto this thread to check if I was the only one...

First time around I left it for 20 minutes and so little had happened I thought it had crashed so canceled it and started again. Oh well, better go find a magazine..

Photo organisation

I have a folder containing separate photo folders to synch to on my iPhone. Usually the first photo in each file is used as the folder icon in Photos on the phone.

Since I updated to OS4 these have been scattered and are seemingly random.

Has anybody else experienced this and do we have any solutions yet?

I've tried resynching, erasing photos and resynching, creating a new file and resynching... but no joy.

Cheers guys.
