I found one! I'm pretty proud of myself here. But this is a very, very little thing. When you're listening to music and you turn the device off - as in, all the way off with the slide to power off switch - instead of abruptly cutting off, the music you were listening too fades out - which sounds nicer. XD

yea it fades out on nearly everything now which is nice :)

Not sure if it was already discovered but in the Weather app, when you old on a day of the week and slide it to the bottom, you get weather hour by hour!

that was one of the first things noticed on beta 1.... lol

Question - as I haven't been able to check, and there's no option specifically for this on the device - does your SMS history get backed up to iCloud? (I'm hoping it does.)

Yes, if you have backup turned on in iCloud. The backup is a separate part, ie, if you have it off it will backup to iTunes like normal. Turn it on and then your phone will: once a day, when on wifi and plugged in, backup to iCloud. It lets you select the apps you want to have backed up and I believe SMS is included in that by default.

EDIT: Just looked and there isn't an option to turn that off but it is included in the normal iTunes backup so Yes I would assume it is and it's not even optional to turn off currently.

TLDR: Yes, if you turn that part on.

Thanks for this :)

I do have the iCloud backups running, and it's a pretty impressive feature. I checked today and saw it had backed up last night while it was plugged in and I slept. I was just curious about the SMS data though as it wasn't explicitly mentioned in the interface anywhere.

Anyone know if this is iOS 5 Specific ? The ability to play youtube videos with your screen locked....
Play video in youtube,
Lock the screen,
Double tap home button hit play.

Hahaha, it's pretty cool that they thought of that

Can you try doing this with a video (so you can listen to the audio with the screen off)?

In OS 3.0 and below, the method you just posted worked for videos in the iPod app.

In iOS 4, something changed and now you have to: start playing the video, bring up the Multitasking bar (which pauses the video), swipe over and tap the play button from the iPod controls, then press the Lock button.

I'm curious how this works in iOS 5. I have some concert videos that I'll watch, but of course I can also just listen to the audio.

Thanks!

Is it me or does battery life in beta 2 still suck?

It does suck. Things I'd like to see improve:

Battery life - phone barely lasts 18-20 hours on average
Overheating - seems to happen on calls lasting more than 10-15 mins
Better wifi sync for iTunes - seems pretty inconsistent right now

Love the iOS5 but in order to use it or make it last whole day i have to turn down brightness almost zero level, 3G off most of the times and still wont last more than 10-12 hours !!

I hope they atleast if not fix increase the battery life abit in beta 3.

Another little change I don't think has been said, when you are closing apps from the multi-tasking bar, you used to be able to remove more than one at a time. Now, it's limited to one at a time. I only noticed because I use two fingers at a time on my iPad.

I'll just be using this thread for iOS beta 3 purposes.

No more accidental 'scrolling all the way up while trying to drag down the notifications drawer'

before, when dragging down the notifications panel, often times you would also trigger the 'scroll to the top' zone. You don't anymore.
the iPhone now properly distinguishes between a tap and a swipe down :)

makes me very happy

ofcourse, the 'Fruit Ninja Protection mechanism pro deluxe' (a swipe from the top, when in full screen apps that don't have a top bar, ... i.e. games, only reveals a handle, a second swipe will pull down the panel ... touching the screen anywhere else will hide the handle again) works perfectly.

I just tested the 'Fruit Ninja Protection mechanism pro deluxe' and it's awesome. Perfect implementation. Playing games and accidentally triggering notification center was getting really annoying.

also, the homescreen panel now has rounded colors when filling the screen. i do believe that's new in beta 3 aswell, is it not?
the animation when the corners get 'trimmed' looks so cute :)

I noticed a new ringtone called "Tweet". I didn't see it in the previous betas.

It makes for a nice new alert for Mail.

Been noticing beta3 is much faster than beta2.

No longer have to reset MLB At Bat after watching 4 videos. :D

Beta 3 is definitely faster and more responsive compared to beta 2. Also, till now battery life seems to be better - I unplugged the phone from the charger at 7 am this morning, and at 12:30pm its 86% remaining. With beta 2, around midday it would be in 65-70% range, based on similar usage on average.Of course this is only the first time after a full charge on beta 3 so lets see how it behaves over this week for a better gauge.

What is the deal with Newsstand? Is it not active yet? Or am I missing something? Because I cant seem to find any magazine/newspaper content for it in the App Store.

Picture please? :)

And what is the deal with Newsstand? Why can't Apple make it downloadable through the App Store? Has anyone requested this/ made a petition?
