I have to point out that thetered is out of the question!
Never understood how people would settle for that anyway, what if your phone hangs in the morning right after leaving home, no phone for the rest of the day, that would be a nightmare, and not to mention if youre going away for a few days, or even weeeks :-S

Anybody car to point me to the right site for this, links? Or arent there any "plug&play" vers out yet, just your own "customisation" of it? If so, theni need to be above average to figure out how to, or are there any how to's on that topic as well?
Sorry for being a little slow, but im still confused about all the info, if what i want really excisist or not...

Btw, im on Mac Osx 10.6.8

For now, you can install the Semi-Tethered tweak, which allows you to use your phone and Safari after a restart.

What are my chances?

A sort of noob question...
I bought a used iPhone 4 (not 4S) off eBay recently. The phone was listed as having iOS 5.0.1, simlocked for ATT, and I want to eventually jailbreak/unlock it.
I understand my chances to succeed depend on baseband version, which seller doesn't know, and I will know only after I receive the phone, but I want to do some homework before that.
So here is what I want to know:
- Which BB versions are unlockable for iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1?
- Is 01.59.00 Baseband "good" or "bad" for this purpose?
- How many different BB versions exist for this hardware/OS combination and how many of them are "good", roughly?
Sincerely,

If the seller does not know what baseband is on the phone, there is a VERY slim chance that it is 01.59.00. It is 99.9999% on the baseband that comes with 5.0.1.

01.59.00 is the only unlockable baseband on the iPhone 4 (other basebands are unlockable using Gevey SIM method, but again, if the seller doesn't know what BB its on, its on stock 5.0.1) and that baseband was distributed only with iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1. That means, for this phone to have 01.59.00, it must have been upgraded to 5.0.1 while preserving the baseband at 01.59.00. The seller likely did not do this if he doesn't know BB version...

Sorry, but there's an extremely slim chance that this iPhone can be unlocked...

I agree.
Its not happening.
Basebands are not preserved by accident. It takes work and to know what you're doing to save that baseband all the way up to 5.0.1
If he doesnt know then you can assume 99% is on stock firmware and baseband.

Thanks guru(s),

As I understood from last hours of reading, there's no even a promise for a solution for my hardware/OS/BB combination any time soon, even Gevey card will not help me here, right?

So it seems, instead of looking around collecting tools and reading guides, I should rather look for an AT&T prepaid card to use instead of T-Mobile prepaid service.

But does this mean I will not be able to jailbreak this phone, get Cydia, install non-approved apps, tweaks, etc.?

Regards
same me

yes, you can still jailbreak using redsn0w. tho it will be tethered. meaning you will have to connect to your computer to boot your phone. I updated to iOS 5 when its jailbreak came out, and I've only had to restart my phone once, when I installed MobileSubstrate. So ya, tethered jailbreak isnt that big a problem.

You can also install the semi-tether tweak which allows you to boot your phone without your computer but you wont have access to any jailbreak parts until you full boot with a computer

Do you have the link to the official site for that?

Sure. HERE.
