Apple today pushed out the sixth beta version of iOS 5 to developers, marking yet another step in the development process leading up to the public release of iOS 5 later this year. The release, which is labeled as Build 9A5302b, comes nearly two weeks after the surprise Saturday release of the fifth beta version earlier this month.

In addition to iOS 5 beta 6, Apple has also released a new beta version of iTunes 10.5 and a new preview version of Xcode 4.2 to support the release.

Apple is expected to release iOS 5 for existing hardware around the time of the iPhone 5 launch, with rumors for the debut now coalescing around early October.

Let's hope this one is better than the last.

I didn't have any problems with beta 5. It worked much better than beta 4. I'm about halfway through getting beta 6 but I don't expect to see much different visually but additional improvements would be nice. I still want to see something with news stand, though. Just sits there kind of lame.

Are the gestures enabled on the 1st gen iPod?

If not this is extremely regrettable and will force many to jailbreak.

the whole OS seems more polished. i feel its quicker in opening and closing apps.

How is the user notified that there is an iOS update? Does it show up in the notifications app? Is it persistent?

No wipe .... Works more smoothly than beta 5... Scrolling is also more smoothly...

And pictures from before are all stayed on iphone

It comes up as a notification. But apperanlty not pushed out. Maybe it checks one a week or something. If you do a manual check it should be there.

Newstand

They must have something special in mind for it eventually because I noticed its one of the only apps that you can't bury in a folder. Typically I hide all the lame default apps by stuffing them in a folder but you can't do that with News stand....I wonder why not?...

It's like an app within an icon, you tap it to drop down the newest magazine/newspaper subscriptions. No app to open, it's all from the icon.
