You're missing one thing. The GM CAN'T come out BEFORE the Media event, because it will contain features for the new iPhone 5. So either the Media event is BEFORE the GM or on the same day!
In my scenario, the iOS Gold Master would be released after the 27th announcement.

Apple controls the entire timeline; they can easily push the release of the iOS Gold Master back a week. After all, they've already moved the iPhone hardware release back a couple of months.

:D

About the only thing that Apple can't control is the holiday sales season. That affects the iPod product line more than other product lines though (iPod sales in the holiday quarter are approximately double of any other quarter). Still there is plenty of time for Apple to have everything released before we head into November.

quick question about the GM. Do you have to have a dev. account to install this? I already have the beta just wondering if you need one to get the GM if it was provided on the net some where.

Kinda. You either need a dev account or you'll need to have your device registered by a dev on their account. Otherwise you'll end up bricking your iPhone

Personally I'd wait. It won't be long now, and the current Beta 7, for me on my 3GS, is a dog. It's sluggish and a battery drain. The previous Beta was very snappy and a joy to use.

Please don't say that. Apple usually doesn't make the same mistake twice, so I sincerely hope they don't return to the ergonomic disaster of a curved back a la 3G/3GS!

Really? I always found the curved back of the 3G/3GS to be very comfortable - much more comfortable than the sharp edges of the iPhone 4. Granted, they rocked back and forth a bit if you laid it on a table.

I think a tapered, flat-back design like the iPad 2 would be best. Curved edges to save your fingers, but still 85% flat.

Who cares about iOS anymore seeing the great future other os have like Android or Windows 8 (which will make Windows 8 tablets EAT the ipads)?

After watching today the Windows 8 latests news I have no doubts that next year ipads will start their falldown... You just cant compare iOS with a full OS like Windows wich will include mobile features thanks to its Metro design.

I really liked iOS like a year ago, but now, seeing Android and specially Windows 8 (to be the replacement of my ipad) I feel its too weak: no true multitasking (I cant load youtube videos on the background while working on a pages document, for example), no file explorer, folder limitations for apps, no folders for photos (thank god this is coming in iOS 5), cannot send files over bluetooth, cannot download files from the internet, etc.

Maybe iOS 6 will include these much needed features, who knows. Right now iOS is a very nice and good looking mobile OS, but with losts of limitations. I feel these every day I use my ipad (which I use heavily). I think Windows 8 tablets will absolutely destroy ipad next year. Iphone will still rule, of course, but the ipad to me is doomed.

eventually iOS and Mac OS will merge but IMO that is a few years down the road, when mobile hardware is truly capable. It's nifty that M$ has produced a version of Windows that will run on ARM tech but obviously it will have limitations as well, because the hardware isn't quite there yet, especially considering its mostly browser based.

hmmm. I find the flat edges of the iPhone 4 so much easier to hold onto. It's easy to keep the phone steady without it rocking while I hold it to my ear. My fingers come into contact with more surface area than on the curved design, so I have more control. And, of course, it lays flat on a table when needed.

I think the curved back LOOKS ergonomic, but in reality it makes the phone more awkward to hold and harder to use.

This is probably the most likely of release dates i've found
Image

and like in past releases the iOS has been released before the new upgraded phone, so sometime between 21 of sept and oct 7 would be my guess

Your dates are all one week off.

None of those things you mention matter to the majority of consumers who are interested in the iPad. Those things might only matter to more advanced users who do not make up the majority of purchasers. Most people want ease of use when using a device like this, not some full featured overly complicated desktop type OS. The type of multi-tasking (or rather task switching) that iOS uses now is more than adequate for the majority of users. You mentioned you can't load a Youtube video in the background while working on a document? Who wants to do that? When people watch Youtube videos they stream them and watch them immediately. When you start doing lots of multi-tasking like that it will impact battery life. I think a Macbook Air would be better suited in those situations. Not a tablet. Adding a few features that iOS may not have isn't going to sway a consumer unless the price is quite a bit less than an iPad and the competition simply can't compete with Apple on price (which is ironic given that Apple typically sells premium priced products).

The iPad has a massive amount of momentum right now, no other tablet even comes close. Apple sells more tablets in 2 weeks than Motorola does in an entire year and I doubt that is going to change anytime soon. iOS has a massive amount of developer support. No other tablet OS has anywhere near the number of apps that iOS has.

About the only other tablet I see becoming successful is the Amazon tablet, since they will be able to subsidize it and offer it to consumers at a much lower price than the iPad.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Apple may shock everyone and hold two events?
One this month, for iOS icloud and Mac OSX. With GMS of all three going live.

And one in mid Oct for iPod and iPhone.

They have alot to cover in the keynote,
Three big OS upgrades to show, plus iTunes 11.
Then their iPod refresh, and iPhone.

That's too much to show off in good detail within a 2 hour time frame.

I disagree. They already showed off Lion and its features. They have also done the same for iOS and iCloud. If it is anything like the past, they will focus on the new hardware plus any new software features that take advantage of the hardware. No real need to hold multiple events.

Yeah. Everybody is holding back from buying an iPad. Nobody wants one, because it is missing these much needed features.

I'll have my trigger finger ready at the Dev portal. :)

I'm really satisfied with the current beta, so I'm surprised to see another beta before GM.
For me, there are still issues with playing TV shows from a shared library that have been there in one form or another since the first beta. Basically, it messes up the ordering, misses some out and duplicates others
There are various other issues too with syncing not working properly, bluetooth messing up and forgetting it's paired devices, and mail not pushing properly

It's pretty stable for a beta, but personally I'd be more surprised if they went to GM without a beta 8...

I guess we will find out friday maybe

when do the updates come out for beta's US time?

if there is no beta 8 does that mean we are really close?

What time was the last beta released? I know it was late night on the east coast, apple is on the west coast which is 3 hours behind
