Quick question to save me trawling through loads of post...

Has anyone a good feel of how fast iOS5 is running on the 4, allowing for the fact it's still beta? I mean in terms of responsiveness, time to load mail/settings etc?

I've 9 months of contract left so an upgrade is out of the question. I put iOS4 on my old 3G prior to getting my launch 4, the experience was horrific. Given iOS4 apparently runs fine on a 3GS (which I've no experience of), I'm just hoping same applies for iOS5 and the 4.

It runs perfectly. Actually increased speed for me significantly.

iOS 5 b 7 runs well on 3GS

I wonder if the GM will be an over the air download or we will have to grab it directly from the Dev site?

well the beta's have been OTA, so it's possible. Then again, equally possible that GM will have to be a fresh install so there's no glitchy code carrying over. With most betas i ended up doing fresh install after a few days as it just kept messing up one way or another. We'll just have to wait and see.

I did get the option to upgrade OTA but I ignored it because my battery life had been so good.

Will PM you the link.

You're a kinder person than some of us (including me). I know others on this forum have become tired of the ridiculous amount of support others needed with this beta. A reasonable understanding of computers and basic problem solving skills would've led someone to realize that he or she was on an older beta that expired. But that didn't happen. Even if the information was presented to that user.

We're almost out of the woods now but I have to express my dismay at users who are not able to handle or understand the problems that arise with betas. So I will simply state the following:

If you don't know what beta you're on, you shouldn't be using a beta.
If you can't use Google to solve basic problems, you shouldn't be using a beta.
If you need to beg other users on the internet for access to materials you had previously gotten, you shouldn't be using a beta.

For the most part yes. My biggest issues with the current beta have been more iTunes related (wifi sync is unreliable, playlist ordering issues, etc.) however I expect on Tuesday we are going to get a new iTunes version different then what we are using in beta and I bet a lot of those issues will go away then.

I love iOS 5 on my iPhone 4. I can't wait to experience it when apps are actually written for it. Only then will we see it running at its best but what I've seen so far I'm more than happy.

It even runs pretty well on my wife's iPhone 3GS

I agree to some extent, if you can't work out something this simple you shouldn't be playing round with the beta.

Sounds like you might find this site useful for answering future queries http://***********/.

Thanks for the responses, sounds very promising. I was tempted by the beta, but I didn't want to risk incompatibilities, largely Sky Go (UK here) which allows me to watch footy when I'm at work.

Which reminds me, I really hope Sky are ready for iOS5 with their apps, gonna be a tough choice otherwise, hmmm.
