Just an iOS 5 discussion for everyone.

What feature(s) are you looking forward to most in iOS 5 and if there are any features in iOS 5 you don't like, how would you change them?

Looking forward to the notifications center the most, because notifications are awful the way they work now.

I don't like Newsstand, because I have no desire to use it and I can't hide it. You should be able to hide it and any other Apple app.

Agreed, although I do like the stock feel of iOS so the Newsstand icon is fine with me. Looks pretty nice imo.

From what has been announced thus far:

  • iMessage
  • New (less intrusive) Notification banner
  • Reminders
  • The fact that its going to be PC Free
  • Wireless Sync + OTA updates

I'm very excited about many of the features. iMessage (mainly for my iPod touch), Reminders, lockscreen notifications, OTA updates, Wi-Fi sync. I'm also pleased that I can finally use the volume buttons in the native camera app, because right now I am using an outdated version of Camera+ to do the same thing.

Same with my iPod touch. Excited for all the new features.

Question about Notifications. Do notifications/messages/appointments stay on your lockscreen if you do not check them? Or do they go away once you unlock your phone?

I think they go away once you unlock your phone, but they are still in your notification center until you erase the notification or go to it. Seems like it'd be a problem, imo.

you're mostly right, but some apps keep the notifications there until you clear them, ESPN scorecenter for example

I think I read the latest beta build has the ability to hide apple apps.

There isn't a new beta that allows you to hide apple apps. Beta 7 is the last one out I believe GM is more likely next.

I'm liking the notifications best. iMessage is turned off until everyone else gets updated to ios 5. Wifi syncing and iCloud are also a plus for me.

They go into the notification center once you unlock your phone. It's not an issue though because if you'd like to respond to a notification from say, Twitter, Facebook or email then you just slide the icon to the right instead of the slide to unlock slider and you're taking to that message to respond. It's pretty slick.

Not true.

  • iMessage
  • Wifi Sync
  • Ota updates
  • iCloud of course
  • the new notification center
that's it for now

oh and the Speech recognition thing that it may get

i am hoping for some good speak to text stuff....friend has an android, he can just speak into it and it will write the text and send it off. that would be nice.

also notifications will be nice
