I expect in iOS5 we will see something to compete with widgets/real-tiles and that type of thing. Some type of auto-updating displays.

Hey brah, your story sounds pretty cool and all, but there's already a 6 page thread on exactly what your trying to do. Use that search button next time

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/964332/

Looks more like a what do you want the iPhone 5 list to me, a wish list. Next time take some time out are read more than a title. Ok bro.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

Re: camera, you have to remember. The more pixels you put in the same sized sensor the worse the noise/grain gets. This is why cellphone cameras have bad noise even in a slightly dark room. current MP is fine just increase the sensor size a hair.

Did you even read the link that I posted about the 8MP camera? If you did you would have saw that Sony going to be making the sensor for the 8MP camera

I believe that this same thread was made 6+ months ago, and was done far more comprehensively than the current iteration...

I knew someone was going to post that thread in here...Did you know that thread was originally iPhone 5 wish list? Everything I posted has a real chance to be apart of the next iOS and iPhone. I'm not just making things up that I want on the iPhone like that thread.

That list is pretty reasonable. If they add these as well, it'll be a solid upgrade:

1GB Ram
64GB storage
GPU upgrade for better graphics/gaming
Increase battery life
Anti-glare screen

A big wish is for a bigger screen.

I think well see all of these also.

If the iPad gets the 1GB of ram the iPhone will get it also, but what I have read it's looking like the iPad is only getting 512MB just like what the iPhone 4 has. I don't think we'll get a bigger screen this year with the iPhone because Apple just came out with the retina displays. I don't see them changing the displays until 2012.

Doesnt NFC have to do with those pay express things you see at gas stations and stuff? If so thats pretty cool and can definitely be used right away unlike the other guy said 5 years.

1GB of RAM? that'd be nice, but i don't think so.
64GB Storage? Possible!
GPU upgrade for better graphics/gaming? Yes the A5 chip will be dual core.
Increase battery life? Yes, the Dual Core will increase battery life.
Anti-glare screen? That'd be nice, but i don't think so.

I really wish for a bigger screen too, 3.7" to max 4" would be ideal, without making the phone bigger.

Dual core processor is very unlikely as the battery drain is way high. Thats why its not really in netbooks yet.
Its popping its head up in the netbook market so come on apple show us it can be done...

It's obvious that apple will match competition...

Tegra chip 2 is dual core and it is being used on android devices.
Tegra chip 3 is quad core and it will be used in 2012.

iPhone 5 will be dual core and iphone 6 will be quad core. Apple will try to match these competitions. Expect dual core iphone this year and then jump to quad core next year.

Err, actually the new GPU is more stable and will make the battery last longer.

I agree with almost everything stated in the thread so far aside from two things.

A. They just won't make a 64 gig storage model. Simple... due to marketing reasons. The same can be said to doubling the storage on an iPod Touch. It's going to affect the sales of everything else.

B. 1 gig of RAM. While it would be nice just to have it. It's unrealistic on Apple's part. They gave the first iPad only 256 megabytes, and possibly 512 with the model refresh. The iPhone more than likely won't see a gig until next year, or the following.

In my opinion, if it isn't in DIRE need of it, it's probably not going to get it.
The newest iPod Touch COULD'VE gotten 512 as well, but didn't, and it still works fine.

I'd still like to see this things, but the way Apple has laid things out over the years, I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think that it'll be a small update like the 3G - 3GS (not LTE 4G, unfortunately; but I could be wrong, no, wait, I hope I'm wrong) so Verizon customers arn't annoyed. And, I think the big thing will be iOS 5, and the iPhone 6 will be the big hardware update, but iOS 6 will be a small update.

(Bold Added)

It cracks me up how often people say this. When the 3GS first came out I bought it and then returned it because I felt it was such a minor upgrade to my 3G, but people were so adamant that it was a huge hardware upgrade.

Just thought I'd share.

Dual core cpus use less power than single core cpus, not more.

Every bolded thing in the link I posted is reasonable and has a real chance of happening in the next iOS and iPhone.

You are making things up, and so is my link, and there isn't a single bolded thing on either list that is unreasonable. It's just that the list in my link is a lot more comprehensive than the list in this OP.

If anything, your prediction that Google Maps will be replaced by Apple's own mapping program is a lot less likely than anything bolded in this link...

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1021233/

There's a lot more to making a viable competitor to Google Maps than simply buying up a mapping company or two. MapQuest has been around a lot longer than Google Maps, invested a lot more money into it and even they couldn't keep up with Google.

Please no widgets

It won't be exactly like widgets or exactly like livetiles. Apple will build a similar concept but with their own twist on it like they did with multi-tasking. There will be some type of auto-updating things that can be added. At least that is my prediction. we will see

I'm quite interested in the whole 4G discussion with the iPhone 5, would they even bother releasing a 4G version in Europe and other places? Seems like only very few places even have 4G support at the moment.

The radio spectrum bandwidth isn't quite available in most parts of Europe (except Scandinavia) at the moment but will be very soon. Most european countries are probably going to adopt LTE as the preferred 4G technology, so once the bandwidths become available (ie. when local governments make a killing from the auctioning of those radio frequencies), roll-out time of LTE 4G will be very fast as its basically an upgrade of the existing cellular infrastructure; just like what has happened to AT&T & Verizon with their 4G roll-out in the USA.

2012 could be a very big year in Europe for mobile technology but we shall see.

HSPA+ is kind of a given. It's already in the dual-mode chip in the verizon iphone. The question is whether they'll enable it.

I'll play along:

Screen: Still a class leader, won't change

Housing: Some slight modifications to accommodate different networks if it is a true dual-network phone. Potentially a coating on the antenna band.

SoC: Custom dual-core Cortex A9 with SGX543MP2 designed by Intrinsity (the question is what process and fab will they use?)

RAM: 512 MB. Potentially LPDDR2 as an upgrade from the LPDDR1 in the iP4.

Cameras: Same.

Besides the SoC, most of the upgrades will in iOS5 (I hope)

You actually think the next iPhone and iOS are going to get most of these things?

You say i'm making things up, and you say that the other thread is more attainable, but do you really think Apple is going to release a four inch display on the iPhone after they just upgraded the display on the iPhone 4? No way that they are going to do that, not at least until 2012. There are other things that are unrealistic but i'm not going into detail...

Basically, everything I posted, I'm showing proof that Apple is working towards or entertaining the idea of improving the iPhone in the areas that I've showed. I'm not just wishing or hoping.

Before 2007 Apple never made a phone, and we saw how that turned out. Google maps on Android phones are great, Google maps on iOS are poor at best, Apple is not MapQuest or any of these other mapping companies, Apple is Apple. We've seen what they've done from iOS to OS X. I would bet that they would put out a better mapping navigational system than what we have now. And we all know how Apple loves to control every aspect of the phone.

Expectations for iOS 5.0

Are you excited about iOS 5? Or do you think it'll flop? Do you think it will solve everything you have been wanting? Or do you think upgrades will be minor, or feel "patched on" to the existing architecture?

Personally I see lots of arguments for both sides, but obviously Apple NEEDS this to be a huge success with the huge amount of cometition coming at it from all directions...

Why iOS 5 will be sweet...
  • Apple can feel the heat. They will give us what they want!
  • iOS 4 (or prior) fixed all those pesky needs (multitasking, MMS, copy and paste, etc) so now they can really focus on redesigning the OS and/or fixing things that are outdated
  • The huge continued success of the iPad will really drive innovation, because now iOS is more than for a phone. It's for a computer.
  • Apple brought a bunch of iOS features "back to the Mac" this is the perfect opportunity to bring the Mac "back to iOS"
  • iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion close release dates could bring some sweet level of interactivity/similarity between the OS's

Why iOS 5 will suck...
  • Apple has been working too hard on the .x updates! They never have given us so much, or released them so late in the cycle!
  • Apple has been working too hard on Lion! They diverted attention away from iOS
  • Apple is too subborn to change with the times. the OS will just patch crap on top instead of redesigning much needed features
