The same people who dont want quickreply are the same ones who dont see the benefit of sbsettings

You mean like... "Why would I need to disable icons for apps I'll never use, when I can just put them all in a 'junk' folder??"

;)

Or the ones who thought the current notifications were fine. You could argue why do we need more RAM or a dual core processor using this flawed logic. I mean it only makes a second or two difference...

BiteSMS is the best and quick reply is a must have feature. I figured Apple would have innovated (aka copied BiteSMS, called it a fancy feature) and then the fanboys would fall over each other :)

Dustin i shouldn't really care i've been enjoying all these features for years with a jailbreak

But i find it odd that people have a counter argument against quickreply lol

Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't it switch to the other app in about 1/4 of a second?

How much "quicker" does it need to be?

Hola. :)

I don't use BiteSMS like they are talking about. There is an actual add on currently for jailbreak that is called QuickReply. All is does is make it faster for you to send your texts. I receive, reply and forget about most of my texts (and e-mails) from my lockscreen and rarely have to leave it, which has turned out to be really nice for me. I hit send, the box disappears, and i'm ready to see any incoming notifications again from multiple apps. I don't like hitting view, going into the messaging app, sending, closing the messaging app, then putting my phone to sleep.

It honestly didn't used to bother me because I didn't know any other option. I'm so used to quickreply now that it would be a bummer to go back. I know we're talking a matter of seconds here, but it's just more convenient. If the functionality is there why not make it an option? :)

Basically, Apple doesn't want people to jailbreak, but they don't give people much choice by knowingly limiting the phone when it is capable of so much more. *insert sadface here*

Have a good one!

it is left out so that next year they can put it front and center as a new feature

I agree with everything here except the lock screen. I love the Quick Reply feature of biteSMS because it lets me respond to a text without interrupting what I'm doing in a different app.

However... on the lock screen... why would you want to respond there? In that case, what's the point of even having a lock screen, if your phone isn't really "locked" from doing stuff??

I have everything I need on my lockscreen through LockInfo. Full work and home calendar, weather, mail, sms/mms, facebook, ping, missed calls, voicemail. I look at it a lot. Haha.

It's just nice for me to be able to respond and send a text and then immediately still be back at my lock screen for all my notifications and not have to switch into messaging app, close out and put phone to sleep. Petty details, but I just like it better ;)

Just another reason why it's good to have options... different strokes for different folks ;)

Quick Reply is a MUST! Either way, if Apple doesn't do it, I'm going to jailbreak my device and get BiteSMS back.

That's exactly why they need to implement it. You can't limit the functionality when your users know there are much better options and expect them not to find a way to make that option work.

They really should work with some of the 3rd party app developers because between the two there is an abundance of knowledge and very talented people. Our phones would be amazing.

And while he did that he lost the game behind his text box!

Sorry, I really don't see how that's better than freezing the app.

People WANT to lose their games when they get a text message? At first I said it sounded 'the same' but I take it back...this actually seems worse.

That's because he took his time to explain things for show on YouTube. I get BiteSMS popups all the time and easily press the x button in less than a millisecond without lossing focus on gaming or whatever app I'm using. You really have to use it to realize how convenient and quick it is.

For those who have tested out the beta, is there any way to disable the app icons on the lockscreen and notification center? That is, instead of the green message icon just have the word Messages similar to LockInfo?

Nope. No control over the icon. But the icons are great as you know exactly what app it is

This is why Apple should not listen to certain feedback. It causes more issues than it solves.

Reply to texts from a LOCKED screen. Thus defeating the purpose of a LOCK. Could you imagine the sheer chaos from that?

A young boy and his parents have sued Apple, Inc. over a new feature in their portable devices that they say have caused the boy to receive death threats, similar to those in "A Thin Line Between Love And Hate".

Little Jimmy Porter, 15, had left his iPhone 4 at school on his desk while he got up to write an answer on the board. "it was only for, like, 2 minutes," he said.

Those two minutes proved to be more dangerous than any short period of time in the history of Mankind. A classmate, Billy Boyle, picked up the phone and noticed that even though Jimmy's screen was locked, his girlfriend Katie had texted him a question: "do u think we'll alwayz b 2gethr?" Billy, being the sort to play a prank, took the opportunity to reply to the message, saying: "not unless u get a boob job lol"

Normally, such a message might be taken as a joke and laughed off, except that Katie was extremely self-conscious with her sub-size-A breasts. She didn't send a text back, but began stalking Billy and waving knives at him menacingly.

"Apple has to take responsibility for this," said Ms. Boyle. "I mean, who creates a feature where you can reply to text messages from a LOCKED phone? It's locked for a reason!"

Steve Jobs did not reply to a request for comment.

How would you type a reply in less than a millisecond?

That's what everyone else in this thread seems to be all excited about...the typing a reply part of it. That's going to take time.

So for me, I'd WANT the game to freeze. So let's say they're smart and add that as an option...maybe I can set quick-reply to freeze things in the background. Then I'm back to this:

Some games don't save state, you know... like Yahtzee Adventures for example. Every time you switch apps, and go back to Yahtzee, it starts you over at the main menu. It saves your game, but you still have to go through the splash screen, the "Enable SFX?" prompt, then start your game, then reply "Yes" to resuming your last game. What a pain.

So then that would happen. Which is right back where we started.

So, basically, I'm happy for everyone who doesn't mind their programs running on in the background like that. For those people I hope Apple does add this. You'll clearly love it.

But for me there is no upside. Either it keeps running stuff (which I don't want) or it lets me turn that off in which case there's really no advantage.

So I hope y'all get it, but it's not something I'd use.

I don't use mine as a lock. I use it as a notification screen because apple is behind the times and I like having all my notifications in one spot, which you will as well when iOS 5 comes out.

It's actually causing no issues at all. I'm suggesting the option of having this. You can set it to off. I can set it to on. Everyone lives happily and I let little Katie nowhere near my phone.

You're really stuck on this game thing, probably because that's what was shown in the video. Like I said, it doesn't have to be a game... it could be any app, doing anything (even just reading something static on the screen).

The whole point is that you don't have to switch to the texting app, send your text, press the home button, and go back to the app you were already in. It's all about convenience.

Additionally, in biteSMS it is completely optional and can be disabled in the settings (for people like yourself who don't want it).

It's just silly to argue against it like you have been doing, but I'm glad you've finally realized that different people like different options.

Dear Apple-

If you do not implement the functionality of a "quick reply" type option for messaging and e-mail on the lock screen within Notifications, I will cry like a little girl.

Having the notifications show, but no quick reply option, is not the best use of the amazing potential and capability of our phones. I personally do not want to leave the app I'm in or leave the lock screen to respond to one quick text or e-mail. This is one of the absolute best features of LockInfo, which has obviously influenced some of this, so don't cut yourselves short.

This is obviously possible and is not asking too much. Do yourself a favor and make everyone love you, or I'm going to make the sister I don't have break up with you.

Much love. Still coming over for dinner?
Mike

Dear Mike,

I did not find your "mail" funny. And no I'm not coming over for dinner.

Much love,
Apple

No. I wish to send them easily to my contacts. Do you guys leave your phone laying around for anyone to use? I always have mine on me and I'm the only one that uses it. I don't need a lock screen. If you put yourself in a position to get it lost or stolen then absolutely I'd be with you on using a passcode.

I actually haven't looked into the functionality of the new camera icon but I'm not worried about it in terms of the quick reply request. I think I'll end up using the camera icon a lot from lock but I'll probably forget it'd there for the first few days. Hehe. :-/

I'm not sure what you mean by swiping the text. Do you mean like the Android style swipe? My girlfriend has that and every time I try I'm sooooooo slow! I guess practice makes perfect ;)

Have a good night!

Putting Quick Reply on the lock screen would be stupid from a security stand point.

It is called the LOCK screen.

I don't want anyone being able to just walk up to my phone and send emails as me.

So please do NOT do this Apple.

-.- you guys make no sense at all.

First of all there is no reason to argue against quick reply, I don't see what anyone could possibly lose from it.

Second of all, it's a lock screen so your screen doesn't stay on, not so no one can access your private information. For that we have a passcode. If you a passcode, obviously you would have to put the passcode in before replying.

I just don't see why anyone would argue against it.

I don't know how many times I can possibly say OPTIONAL.

I want the option to do it, as do thousands of other people that use quickreply. You guys can have your phones exactly as you have them if you'd like.

That is why you have it an option you have to turn on. Its default should be off. It depends at how much security that you want. I personally would turn something like that on as I never use pin codes on my phone to lock them. Hell my Atrix is the first time I Ha ever put on on and even then I just tell people how to unlock it. I hate pin codes but I do understand why people use them. My sister uses one on her iPhone because some of her friends would mess with her phone but when she was at home she just told us the code to unlock it.
