Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is true for all scroll views and table views (lists for non-devs.) When you tap the status bar, it generates then event to scroll to the top.

In full screen mode (a button to activate it appears on the bottom bar when the phone is in landscape) the status bar disappears along with the bottom bar with the buttons. The only things that remain are translucent back and forward button and an exit full screen button.

However, tapping the rows of pixels near the top of the screen (where the status bar would be) still scrolls to way to the top.

UK Maps

I was wondering if anyone with the beta could post screenshots of map/satellite views of Chichester or Midhurst in west Sussex, uk, as I need these on a daily basis and need to know if to upgrade come autumn.

Thanks!

Just found this when playing around with Assistive Touch...

Like on the iPad, when you're on the lock screen and listening to music, you can choose to fade out the slider and the clock - just leaving the status bar icons on the lock screen (as shown below).

This must be a feature they didn't mean to include in the beta builds because its not accessible easily. To try it out:

Turn on assistive touch; start playing some music; lock your iPod/iPhone; wake it; move the Assistive Touch button around the screen a little; let go of the AT button; wait for the screen to turn off, wait a couple of seconds (~5) and then wake your iOS device (using the power button, not the home button). You should find that the slider and clock have gone. Press the home button to get them back.

I know (think) its probably not a bug because sometimes (normally when you tap the assistive touch button after moving it around the screen when following the above steps) you can see the slider and clock fade out, like on the iPad. I don't know whether it works on the iPhone as well, I've just tried it on my iPod.

Anyway, thought it was kind of cool...

IOS6 looks good.... I'll be taking a look at the Maps application... but i can immediate see an issue with it already, where TomTom excels (which I'll continue to use)

Apart from the fact you need 3G and/or Wi-Fi connection for Siri's voice navigation and/or 3D view.... but in addition, if a faster route is available, it looks like IOS6 only put a popup on screen and *waits* for user interaction by finger, for a faster reroute, as a "Should I reroute you?" question..

If this is set up ahead of time, for direction when congested, (like other other GPS's or apps), the iPhone should already "know" to automatically reroute WITHOUT needing to ask...although the time saving is known is a neat idea...

It should automatically reroute,, (hopefully this will be Siri based) so you can just say "Yes, reroute me" WITHOUT taking you hand of the week, or eyes of the road to look down and "Agree" to this ...

Thats the only issue here. :apple:

While navigating with iOS 6 maps I lost signal several times. During those time when any turns came up I was prompted--by voice.

Genius browsing now available in the App Store for iOS 6. Search results are also in a different format.

If anything there should be a toggle so you can say always automatically reroute or ask each time. That's how current TomTom PND's work. You may not want to always automatically reroute.

One thing it absolutely needs to do and I haven't seen it do this in any Maps demos on YouTube, is count down when to turn. EG "in 800 yards turn left, in 300 yards turn left, turn left now"

On all the YouTube's I've seen it says "turn left in 800 yards" and that's it. TomTom currently gives timely updates so you don't have to look at its screen.

The new results layout when you search for something on the app store are TERRIBLE (on the iPhone at least).

I just did a search which brought up over a thousand results, and my only way to navigate them is to swipe through one full screen panel at a time? Awful idea!

Also if apple were wanting to promote a certain app they could make it show up at the top of the results to improve its standing. What about the other results waaaaaaay down the list? It would take all day to finally get to them!

What makes the whole thing worse is that the panels arent the quickest to swipe though and after you have swiped though, say 10, and you try to swipe backwards it has to re-load those panels again.

I REALLY hope they ditch this method because quite frankly, its completely rubbish :(

Agreed, the iPhone search results are a big downgrade. One at a time?http://postimage.org/image/olbhvlzyr/

There are several warnings as you approach a turn or exit. I don't know who made the videos you watched but Maps does not generally give one turn alert (if you've just started and have to turn immediately then yea). If anything I wish there was a toggle for "less verbose mode." When on a phone call it can be a real challenge when it is chattering and you are well-aware of the upcoming turn. The caller can't hear any of it of course and with them talking and the app talking it's hard to let them know to hold on for a moment.

It also depends on the area and route. On a freeway it will start alerting you about 2 miles before the exit. Seems to be less distance on a city street where you might only have few miles, if that, per leg. But there is almost always several warnings (say, a mile away, half a mile, few hundred yards, then right at the turn itself). It's fine.

Not only that but you can only see about 5 reviews! And they are often very old reviews that do not reflect the current version of the app. That is insane.

I fired up my 1st generation iPhone, over 5-years-old, and the App store was better than on my 4S. Way to go Apple!
