I think battery life will be improved. Bigger screen means more space for more battery. The bigger screen coupled with the in cell tech would allow even more space. Hopefully battery draik with LTE will be countered with more capacity.

Looks good to me! I like the idea of a taller screen.
It'll take a while to arrange all the icons nicely again though.

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if this is the case.

Remember it's thinner and lighter as well, and that somewhat larger screen will require more power.

Damnit. I guess this pretty much confirms it. Seriously Apple, when we cried for a bigger screen, I think it's safe to say most of us were more concerned with width.

I guess that'll teach us for asking for anything different from Apple.

1136x640 is Full HD now ? Missing quite a few lines to even be 720p.

Umh... since when do you decide what is full HD? It is up to Apple to tell you what Full HD, all you can do is agree and give them money. Just like Retina.

/s

Taller screen = GOOD, Wider Screen = BAD

If you make the screen wider it'll just make it harder to hold and reach the other side of the screen with your thumb. Making it taller makes sense on a phone. When you browse the web you usually scroll with your thumb in a vertical motion. I for one hate browsing the web in in landscape mode when I'm on my iPhone. By having a taller screen it allows for more content to be displayed(even when you pull up the keyboard). It makes sense for movies as well. I for one am loving the taller screen idea :)

Exactly right.

This is why the iPhone won't have a 4" screen *in width*...but going taller...single hand use with your thumb (Green illustrates the ‘average’ reach of your thumb across the screen for men/women). Many of you forget just how many women use iPhones. Apple designs ergonomically for both men and women combined into 1 product. Hence why they aren't looking to go wider...mainly I bet due to women's hands.

And also not looking like a idiot with a giant device to your ear.

Full HD is 1080p, HD ready is 720p, "new iPhone" is 640p. It has already been decided. Apple can't change this.

Funny that most of the criticism of the "elongated" 16:9 screen comes from Android fans. When almost every Android phone has a similarly elongated 16:9 screen.

This is revisionism. There were some people who didn't like it, but not many and those people went away quickly.

The thing that threw people on the 4 was the asymmetry of the front camera.

This new long/tall phone has been pretty much hated more than any design Apple has turned out since at least the fat Nano.

Incremental updates is apple thing really. I thought people hate the gap between the antena on the iphone 4, but yeah I understand with the asymmetry front camera, same thing with the trackpads on pc laptop, drove me crazy with it not being centered (most of them).

Apple has their pride I guess, with doing what is right by them and their product lineup as they see fit. Like when they introduce the ipad, I assume they have projected that it would eat the mac sales. Maybe they want to make the iphone taller not bigger so that it wont eat the ipad sales. And apple would suggest if you want bigger screen = buy the ipad because of the experience, etc.

Anyway the thing that I can see with this 16:9 resolution is when paired with the apple tv could utilize the tv full screen without black border on the right and left side. And we could utilize the iphone as the controller ala kinect / wii, its been done currently with real racing 2 but with 16:9 the experience will be different.

it's too bad they didn't add an additional row of icons and shrink the overall size of them to make that row fit. I guess I may be in the minority, but I would like to be able to compress the size of the icons a touch, and have more applications per page.

This is what I also said. Even a grid view mode where you just see a grid of all of your apps with no space in between and no title would be cool. I was going to make a picture of it, but Photoshop CS6 is really slow for some reason (I will downgrade to CS5), and Acorn is terrible with high-res images.

This wasn't real.

Too bad the "unreal" mock-ups usually look better than what Apple actually comes up with. As much as I appreciate Apple's design, they need some fresh ideas instead of just recycling the same design year after year. While other phone manufacturers take the screen and design a significantly different looking phone around it, Apple takes the iPhone 4 and changes a few details for the second time (and probably a third time in 2013) now!

Excited to upgrade from my 4, but really, is the taller screen the only change from the 4S? :(

This is terrible, short-sighted thinking (the same that may be hurting the iPhone 4S' sales).

The new iPhone (iPhone 6) will have a bunch of changes over the iPhone 4S. Here are just some of the rumors:

- LTE chip
- NFC chip
- Double the RAM
- faster CPU and GPU
- "less shattery" metal back
- new & improved dock connector
- new stuff in iOS 6 that other devices won't get

The iPhone 4S had a crap load of changes over the iPhone 4 that people never seemed to notice:

- double the memory bandwidth
- new Dual core CPU with over twice the processing power
- much better camera optics
- 8MP camera
- 1080p video
- 64GB option
- improved antenna design (dynamic switching, no "grip of death")

Just going by all that, you know the new iPhone will have some beefed up stuff. Way faster CPU, maybe doubled memory bandwidth again. Maybe optical zoom on the camera. Maybe a battery with "16 hours" of use (up from the 7-8 hours people get now). Maybe a super-fast charge time (0% to 100% in 15 minutes).

We won't know what all the new stuff is until Apple shows it off. So again, seeing ONE possible screen resolution change in a hacked program and then going "AW MAN, THAT'S IT?" is quite silly.

Did you just make that up? I don't see any Android fans here complaining about it, and I doubt they'd care.
