Maybe it doesn't work well on some people's iPhone or iPad. But just because it is different doesn't mean it is broken.
My auto brightness is different than in iOS 1 2 3 4 5 and even 6 beta 1.
I can look at the brightness slider and see it move. That is correct.

Mine does not move. And it certainly doesn't change the brightness.

It does on my iPad 3 but I need it more on my iPhone.

Nah. Auto-brightness still doesn't work right. If at all.

Mike

Works perfectly for me. In fact, based on its performance, I'd say it was broken in iOS 1-5. Finally it adjusts itself on its own rather than having to turn the phone on and off.

I can turn auto brightness on, and then walk from room to room in my office and see the slider change and the brightness change based on the lighting in each room. That's how it should have been all along.

Sounds like you might need to reinstall it, seeing as it is working for everybody else.

this, and not doing an OTA update cause that won't fix the prob. Restore will.

What bearing does it have on me that it works for you?

And, "everybody else?" I think you are mistaken or didn't read all of the replies. I also said it does, in fact, work properly on my iPad.

Finally, I am not about to reinstall a beta, which was installed OTA, that is about to superseded by a newer version.

Mike

When I press off for Auto-Brightness, nothing happens on my iPhone or iPad. This all started happening when I starting using Beta 1. I restore my iPad back to 5.1.1 and Auto Brightness works.

Seriously, enough with the attitude. The bearing it has is that the feature isn't a broken one, it simply isn't working for you (and perhaps others?) on this beta. But it works for most (did YOU read the replies?) So that points to a probable corrupt beta install or some sort of conflict. That would most likely be resolved by a fresh install.

It may be fixed by the next beta, but not because Apple fixed anything, but simply because you are updating the OS. I'm only offering help because you are complaining about Apple needing to fix something.

It isn't a global problem, it's a local problem with your install.

Because it retains the current brightness setting as the new normal when turning off auto-brightness. It is assuming that you like the setting it has automatically set and are therefore turning off the auto-brightness with the understanding that it will stay at that setting.

That isn't broken, it simply works differently.

No. Installing beta 1 fresh as a new devices, then updating to beta 2 OTA does not constitute anything outside the norm. I am convinced Apple is aware of the problem--as I and others have reported it--and it will be addressed in a later release--hopefully beta 3. The act of installing an OTA update should not preclude any fixes from, well, "working" as intended.

That's what I've been trying to say. The whole brightness thing is working differently then it did in the past,

When I update my 4S from beta 1 to beta 2 on my phone and a handful of others (that are dev phones) I had nothing but problems until I did a restore on them with the iOS 6 Beta 2 and since that there hasnt been one problem.

So I think it's safe to say that it's not coming today?

I wouldn't give up just yet! Sometimes they're late even if they have a set time. This hasn't been given a specific time so they can take as long as they want. They're probably finalising a few things with the servers or something.

Wishful thinking ;)

The last two builds were put out at 10:23AM and before that 12:25PM Cupertino time.

No, as an official Apple Developer I can tell you Apple is aware, and iOS 6 betas 1 and 2 have a "broken" Auto Brightness, the feature may or may not work with older iOS devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 3rd generation may not have this bug but in some cases have been found to) however iPod touch, and older iPhones will have this issue.

I am not retarded. It doesn't work. At all. I can't make that any simpler.

Michael

Dude, completely unnecessary rudeness. The poster you are being rude to is correct, auto brightness has changed. And it's working fine on my iPad AND iPhone.

Whether it's a wider issue affecting different devices or methods of upgrading, you still shouldn't be so rude, particularly to a poster who is being nothing but friendly.

My 4s auto brightness doesn't work at all (never changes) in beta 2 but this thread has gone waaaay OT!
