Because it retains the current brightness setting as the new normal when turning off auto-brightness. It is assuming that you like the setting it has automatically set and are therefore turning off the auto-brightness with the understanding that it will stay at that setting.

That isn't broken, it simply works differently.

So, it should still retain the settings even if I set it up as new...which is what I did.

I agree, this thread is about whether or not beta 3 is being released today, not about Auto Brightness? I think we have established that it doesn't work for some people and it does for other. It doesn't matter what build you have or what device.

I have come to the conclusion that we won't see it until tomorrow now.

Geez, talk to me when you're off your period. Actually, don't - every post you write seems to be sanctimonious and borderline aggressive. Lame, no time for people like you!

And as others have said, we've branched off topic here. Here's hoping Beta 3 will be released as soon as, if only to drown out your BS!

EDIT: And as for your complaint about auto brightness, why don't you direct it through the appropriate channels for Apple to deal with rather than venting your rage on MacRumors like a caveman with a big stick.
OK drama llama, I already stated I reported it to Apple, that Apple knows about it, and that I expect a fix. What more do you want, for me to personally see Tim Cook about it? It is not that high on my priority list, but thanks.

Grow a thick skin, please. I can't imagine you in a "real" debate.

The angry frenzy you have generated about it would seem to suggest that it is.

At this point all I want is for you to stop being so abrasive. I prefer not to engage in debate of any kind with someone who is throwing their weight around.

Is there an ignore function on here?

Yes there is an "ignore function" here. Please use it. Then you won't be so traumatized by my "abrasive," "throwing my weight around" :)D) posts.

Please do not flatter yourself, it takes far more than a caveman with a stick hiding behind an Internet pseudonym to "traumatize" me. I dearly hope auto-brightness starts working on your iDevice soon. ;)

Come on Beta 3! :D

I will agree about wanting beta 3!

If Apple keeps with it's typical 2-3 week ( 10 or 20 business days ) cycles it will come out tomorrow because there was a holiday during this 20 day cycle. This would cause it to land on July 10th.

Exactly 2 weeks after iOS 6 Beta 1 became available they released Beta 2. Today Monday 9th July 2012 is exactly 2 weeks from Beta 2 released. Can we expect to see Beta 3 at some point today? Watch this Space !!!

Well I am certain it is week. Maybe today, or tomorrow or Wednesday.

Slightly off topic but not a lot...

How is everyone liking Apple's pull to refresh in Mail? I know it's not conventional as all the others because the others don't refresh until you pull down AND let go. But I still think this is kinda snazzy and cool and I prefer it!

Yes, beta 3 should be tomorrow or the next day. Everyone had their hopes boosted just because a jailbreak hacker had a "maybe" hunch. Not even he knows

If last years Betas were anything to go back some of the releases came to the UK as late as 11:15pm so we still have 3 hours

My Software Update, Checking for Update is taking ages now, I wonder is everyone checking for an update today or is Apples Servers uploading Beta 3
