This is about sharing to facebook, and this is why twitter works hand in hand where people see something they like and they want to share it via facebook, now they can share it inside the app instead of closing out and going into the facebook app everytime they need to share something.

What????????? Closing out apps? What version you running of IOS??? You don't have to close out of the app.

Just skip it. Trust me, No one really cares where you've "checked in", how much you had to drink, what celebs you saw or what your kids are doing :)

Others who actually use it beg to differ.

Boom.

Pervasive Facebook integration does two things:

1. Facebook won't have to worry about falling behind in mobile. Apple just saved them.

2. Facebook won't need to build their own iPhone clone now. Apple just saved Earth from that particular carbon footprint.

Greenpeace should give Tim Cook a medal for #2.

Facebook has api's that applications can use to share, there is nothing stopping a current application from using them. The original quote form Techcrunch mentions sign-up and authentication mechanisms.

I feel so sad for them..... NOT!

They can turf up all of their personal data to Mark & the gang to be splashed about the net to any bidder. PT Barnum was correct.........sucker born every minute!

This is GREAT! I clicked to see the replies on this thread thinking it would be made up of lots of people saying how great it would now be to have Facebook integration but most everyone thinks it stinks, just as I do.

I buy Macs because I like OS X. Full stop. I don't want Facebook sh**t in it. Though I am positive there will be some Terminal hack or some such to chuck the whole thing in the trash.

Yes, I know I'm old school. But sometimes old's cool. And this is a prime example. Facebook will be old hat in five year's time.

lol, your information is already out there, just for using the internet alone. Facebook isn't the only site that does this...

Facebook is a joke and anyone who uses it probably has no social life, hence them being on it. Why do they feel like they have to integrate this crap!!!???
This is overstating it a bit, but there is probably a lot of truth to this. People get on Facebook as a need to validate themselves due to having no real human social skills. It's sad, really.

But only a fool freely gives it up soooo easily to Mark & the gang.

PT Barnum law :)

Ding, ding, ding....we have a winner! Could not agree more.

Just look at the founders...........rest my case.

Actually, most Facebook users get on Facebook to socialize with friends that share photos, links, and interests. As an added bonus, they can contact old friends from far away. Take facebook out of the picture and the crazies will still be crazy.

Or to coordinate, organize, share memories from, and reminisce about real-world group social events?

I don't think anyone is arguing that there is a fair bit of self-worth puffery going on in social networks, but there is a large contingent of us that use it for legitimate ways of communicating with friends and family in methods that otherwise wouldn't be possible given our physical locations/time limitations.

The things being said about the internet/social networks today are the same things people said when TV was first introduced ("it makes people zombies", "they don't go outside anymore", etc). Seems like a lot of us still get along just fine.

Duh!

Wow. I think everybody knew this after Tim Cook spoke at D10.

As with Twitter integration, if you don't like it, don't use it. Very simple. It is simply an option. I thought people complained that Apple did not give people enough options.....

Unlike many of the people above....I like this, I use Facebook a lot and this will probably benefit me.

No harm in having options right? If you don't like it, don't use it...

I personally don't believe this is accurate. I do believe people use Facebook for the reasons you mentioned, but I think the majority of Facebook users (meaning greater than 50%) are people who don't have much real, human, social interaction. I could be wrong, but that's what I think.

Definitely not a majority. I would say half of facebook power users. That's less than half.

There is a lot of truth to what you are saying...but it's all about moderation and with smartphones and tablets and 4G LTE, Facebook is more readily accessible than the TV has ever been. Suffice to say that many people do not know the meaning of moderation. Also, I am not saying that I am exempt to this...I am on these message boards and other social stuff far more than I should be.

Forget that, you can tell Facebook to never notify you of any farm related activities for the rest of your timeline!

Until they change the settings again ... Let's face it, there is only one thing being farmed here and it is users. They should call it Farmbook.

One might just as well say 'So install it' (the app), if you want to use it.

There's no good reason to integrate it into the OS. That is what apps are for.

You still have an option, just like Twitter.

Don't sign in. Done

Again this doesn't change YOUR position but enables those who want this as a new feature.

Again... How exactly does this effect you? I still don't see it. If you don't like it. Don't use it. And in this case: DON'T SIGN IN.

If it's anything like Windows Phone, if you don't add in your Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn accounts, then you'll never see any of these notifications. After all, each of those services require that you explicitly login with your username and password. Typically, integration gives the best performance. You would expect Apple & Microsoft to know their OS the best. There's often a trade-off in features, for which standalone apps will come in.
