How's everyone feel about the colour changing status bar? I think it looks a bit ugly.

Very nice, all those little fixes seem to have fixed all the iOS annoyances. Good job Apple! :)

So, Apple's patent for "time of day based shadows" for lack of a better term, is actually real?! Holy **** that's awesome!

what's this about time of day based shadows?

Android doesn't play as well with my iPad and MBP (as my iPhone). Plus, I'm so ingrained into iTunes at this point I feel a bit stuck with Apple. I love Apple hardware and software, but when it comes to things as described above they are really frustrating. They literally and intentionally hold back features, "just because." If they would only be more responsive to feature updates I would have few complaints. In that sense Android is far ahead.

I understand.
I would Jailbreak it. It's pretty safe since we are already on iOS xx already. It'll allow what you want and enjoy the Apple ecosystem.

People UNDERESTIMATES how important it is for iOS to support multiple languages (even voice now). That's a major reason iPhone outsells Samsung Galaxy phones. People use alphabets do not understand how difficult it it to enter character based languages. iOS has done an incredible job of that.
Voice recognition is various languages is awesome.

Is there any news of whether apple will support mass transit directions again? It's very odd they don't even mention it.

Usually apple drops legacy technology but with this map update there is nothing but legacy transit (automobile) options

Mass transit directions would be great. The problem is likely that mass transit authorities don't provide up to date route or schedule information in a way that the app could use it reliably. With that info it would be an absolutely fantastic feature.

However, calling automobile navigation "legacy" technology is pretty dense.

Outside of bigger cities, mass transit barely exists, especially in the US. Eliminating directions for people with cars would be the stupidest thing I could possibly imagine doing with a maps/navigation app.

Not getting kicked back to home screen after buying or updating an app is stellar. Also not signing in for updating an app is also very nice.

Any changes to the terrible music app on the iPad? Including the displaying embedded lyrics once again? That's really the ONLY thing I want from iOS 6.

The native clock is great, but I would really like to see a native calculator. People actually use the iPad and work or study situations and this would be quite useful.

"While some may say it's a waste of engineering resources, this shows Apple's incredible attention to detail."

Incredible attention to detail? Like how Reminders, for example, is missing the feature to change order of tasks? I can't believe my ****ing eyes!

Oh wow...so I've been asking for a clock app ever since the iPad came out and Apple now finally thinks they should add the same functions of their other premium product (iPhone) to their second most money making device (iPad). iPad 2 and 3 get a clock and iPad 3 can finally work as a personal hotspot. To bad these are hardware restrictions, now I really feel like I need to upgrade from my iPad 1...oh wait? I rather not but any iPad again because I will probably get screwed over again by Apple.

Wouldn't it be great if Siri told me who was calling when the phone rings over my headphones?

wow, a light-changing volume slider? how cool?
does that also mean that it will actually display my songs and artists in correct alphabetical order as well? Ive been dealing with it since 5.0 and it remains unfixed for myself and many others (just search "sort order problem" on apple forums)
but hey, we get more useless stuff while the most basic functionality remains broken release after release.

You've changed, Apple.

Good to use geofencing on your wife so if she comes within five miles of the house you can hurry the girlfriend out. This is awesome.

I've already heard Android fans screaming about how unnecessary the slider reflection is and how it just "wastes cycles." Strange, given that it's those same people who defend animated wallpapers, widgets and apps that create animated effects on the homescreen (my wife's old Android phone used to show weather effects on the homescreen, for example.)

I feel your pain. Too bad there's not some App Store or something like that with hundreds of free clock apps. This is so outrageous! Especially after Apple tricked us all by promising a super-awesome clock app on the iPad. Apple truly has become evil. Evil, I tell ya. Evil!

The drama is what keeps me coming back to MacRumors.

Read the last line on Macrumors article, it's under the pic where no one ever looks, I only found it on a second look lol.

"- Users no longer need to enter their password to update apps -- only when purchasing an app for the first time. Additionally, users aren't kicked to the home screen when buying or updating an app in the App Store."

THANK YOU!!!!!

Especially since Apple made me change my password to a longer one recently.

- Turning Bluetooth on and off is much quicker than it was in iOS 5. Bluetooth controls are now located in first page of System Preferences, next to the Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode controls.

- Users no longer need to enter their password to update apps -- only when purchasing an app for the first time. Additionally, users aren't kicked to the home screen when buying or updating an app in the App Store.

- Newly downloaded apps gain a temporary 'New' banner on the icon to make them easier to pick them out.

These three features are great! Easy access to Bluetooth will certainly save time, the "New" banner is a nice touch, and not entering passwords for updates is great. The best though, not being taken to the home screen when an app begins to download. The App Store was very erratic about keeping my place in the App Store when I did that.

Lol I was just gonna post this exact thing word for word. I guess someone doesn't have an iPad 3 ;)

No one has an iPad 3. :)

I can't believe they named the thing The New iPad.

You forgot Do Not Disturb mode! Finally, all of us folks that use their iphone or ipad for an alarm clock can block all the interruptions.

http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/26949/ipad-iphone-do-not-disturb-mode/

You could always do that. Mute it. Alarms will still go off with the phone muted. I always thought that was kind of brilliant.

What's nice about DnD mode is that you can have it automatically do it without having to touch it and allow certain people to call through.

I think one of my favorites new features is the fact that the ambient light sensor is continuously sensing the brightness of the environment, and it continually adjusts the brightness of the screen to reflect that.

Is the change gradual and how long between each poll? I'd hate having the screen brightness fluctuate like it sometimes does on my Macbook Pro when the sun is behind me and I move my head.

The lack of a Clock app on the iPad really ticked me off (I realized the pun after I chose that word). I'm glad that they added it again.

Wouldn't it be great if Siri told me who was calling when the phone rings over my headphones?

That sounds great, but most of the people who call me have long, Armenian last names.

----------

How about adding groups in the contact list like in Mac OS? I want to just assign the same ringtone to all of my contacts, but I can't!

The reason I want to do this is because I want to make my phone have a whitelist where only people in my contacts can call me. My actual ringtone is a blank audio file.

I'm pretty sure iOS already has IPv6 support (since iOS 4), I wonder if they are going to improve it to include privacy measures with iOS 6?

Yes, iOS has had IPv6 support since iOS 4. And iOS has supported the IPv6 privacy extensions since iOS 4.3.

In fact, prior to the release of Lion, support for IPv6 was actually better in iOS than in OS X. (Now, afaik, they're about even.)

So, this line about "IPv6 support for WiFi and LTE" is slightly baffling, because (for WiFi) it's been there for 2 years. It's only support for IPv6 on LTE that's been lacking -- a strange omission with the iPad 3 -- so, hey, that bit is new, and maybe people will finally stop accusing Apple of trying to sabotage IPv6 deployment.

It's exactly this lack of code control that can get you into trouble. It's not back and white but if the attitude is you can slip in what you feel like for small things it can grow and eventually people start slipping in something that's quite a bit more serious than a reflection.

New things like this are also additional burden on QA and potentially making a bit of software more resource hungry than it should be. For years Microsoft had the reputation for bloat. If you don't have a process to control what goes into your code or don't have a strong process bloat can happen.

My concern is the lack of real attention to big issue and a lot of attention to things that you and I will forget about after a few days.

Don't get me wrong I am all for "neat" stuff but this is a bit extreme. Look up a few post someone asked about why they didn't make a quick settings menu. Enough time to make a reflection that doesn't make your life easier with the device but not enough for an actually useful feature. It's a slippery slope that I hope they aren't really on.

You do realize that's only one very small piece of the 200 updates to iOS 6, right?

First problem has easy solution-just give them american nicknames, hopefully siri just says the nickname if there is one.

Yeah, but then I have to mess up the names in all of my contacts. Still, I guess it's better to have Siri say the name rather than nothing.

Cross-Fade

Can anyone tell me if they've added the option to cross-fade tracks in the music app. The iPod Nano has this feature so why not iOS. With all the Airplay speakers out there now it would be a welcome feature.
