Aren't phones meant to take photos, surf the web, take a video, get on Facebook, get push notifications, etc? Clearly there's a disconnect here, as every other phone manufacturer is offering better battery, while maintaining all of the above for users.

I'd rather Apple ditch some of the features and give me all-day battery life.

Every other manufacturer has better battery life (comparing similarly sized batteries and similar hardware)?

Come back to reality and take your time to check any comparative test: iPhones are among the best performer in battery life tests.

Not true. You're comparing the worst androids to the best iPhone. Compare the best androids and you'll find iPhone pales in comparison.

It's well known there are several other high end devices that sport 12-24 hour batteries.... if you want to drink the kool aid, go for it, but your screen shots are a sucker-ad thanks to Apple marketing. They're absolutely untrue.

PS - find me someone who can surf 8.5 hours on LTE on an iPhone. I'd be happy to meet anyone who can get through 3 hours of surfing. It's not possible. Anyone who says they can do it is listening to music with their screen off, not actively connected and using data.

Lol, someone who called Anand biased doesn't worth any further reply ...

Just over 8 hours of LTE battery life from a month old iPhone 5. 475mb of data and none of the usage was music. Mostly web browsing with some texts and a couple of phone calls. Look one page back for my usage screen shot. Here is a screen shot of the data usage. :apple:

yeah, that's normal, when someone says that it means casual use. When a tester says "8 hours of LTE web browsing" it means browser open and active for 8 hours. which is BS

AnandTech is a very reputable resource.

Yes yes and mr "shenan-who?" is calling BS .... While one of the most reliable website of the world said a totally different thing.

Ps: I can post in this forum using at least three languages, while you can barely use English. Would you like to try in Italian or German ? No ? Then shut up and go ahead ....

after reinstalling everything, i am just getting about 3-4 hours of usage before I have to recharge.

granted it is a 4s and maybe that is the problem since its a two year old phone.
Similar here, 4 to 4.5 hours usage. My 4S (16 months old) now needs charging during the day as well as at night.

Also I note with iOS7 the phone shuts down when battery is indicated around 8%, with iOS6 it used to hang on for quite a while around 1%-2%

I would hardly call 475mb on one charge "normal" use. That usage cycle consisted of some very heavy web browsing.

I don't get the 8% shut down but sometimes if I unplug the phone and notice it drops a couple of % in the first few minutes I reboot the phone and it goes back to 100%'

Try fulling charging your phone rebooting it right away, see if it stops dying at 8%

I'll give this a try as I don't have anything to lose. In my opinion there is definitely a problem which didn't exist before iOS7 - the phone shutting down at 40% is/was ridiculous.

In the beginning of 7.0.3 I think I noticed a reduced battery life. But during the last week or so it's really starting to settle. Im pretty much 70% wifi and rest 3G/4G. I do listen to a lot of podcast so the figures here are maybe not super fair in that sense. But still. I do often listen to podcast while surfing and checking fb/ig etc. at worst I'm getting 5,5h in really heavy use, though I never play 3D games, just wordfeud and such.

Reduced motion: ON
Applications in notification center: 15
Spotlight: 2, apps and contacts
Auto brightness set in a dark room to around 15%
Location services: Only compass calibration

I live in a apartment where the signal is mostly 2-3 dots.

Really happy with the usage time but still can't go a complete whole day with podcast listening and surfing on 3G.
Longing for the time when you have the battery life on an ipad. Where you pretty much just don't have to think about "oh no I'm out of battery" at all.

And this is fairly typical/regular pretty much most of the time?

I had a problem with weak battery as well. I even wrote to Phil Schiller about it (including a real story where the weak battery on iPhone 5 nearly left me stranded in the middle of the night because I called a cab literally with 1 % left). My iPhone 5 got only 4 hours on battery without any battery-heavy apps.

Apple PR person together with some high-level technical support from United States (which supposedly is not available to regular customers and it was only because of the request from Schiller) diagnosed my battery logs and after nearly two weeks of logging and calls from Apple they stated that according to logs, there is no problem with the battery.

I tried everything, restoring, DFU, setting iPhone as new, nothing helped.

Suddenly after a week or so, my battery is getting better and better. Currently it gets 5:30 of usage (one and half hour more than usual). So I suspect that either the predictive part of iOS 7 kicked in, or some app caused the battery drain and was updated. This might also explain that some people are having battery problems and some don't.

5.30 is still rubbish. I get approx 4 hrs of 3G usage and between 5 and 6 hours of WiFi usage before my battery dies. Utterly woeful figures.

Where what I'm getting. I listen to my music several hours a day while connected to my Bluetooth headset, pay email on for one account and manual for the other. Light YouTube and Facebook. Some internet. A decent amount of texting.
