Do you guys think I should update now or wait until 7.1.2? I'm secretly afraid that they will patch it in 7.1.2, but it's a long shot right?

Went evasion7 on 7.1b2 to pangu on 7.1.1

Working great! Doing my phone very soon also (iPhone 5), same leap.

The Chinese have never sideloaded malicious code in jailbreaks or elsewhere....

Not a longshot at all. They've patched jailbreaks in a day or two before.

Get it while its hot.

Didnt expect this at all. Dont think it will fly for 7.1.2 so soon.

Im trying it now.. looks like they added a boot screen.. Im now loading bitesms and we will see how it works..

It is a shock. And since 7.1.2 has been around in the wild for a bit I dont think a patch is going to be in there. However, 7.1.2 sounds like good fixes. Tough decision.

What process/steps did you perform? restored as new?

As with all jailbreaks, I backed up my photos, wrote down tweaks I want to have again, some repo's too, and then proceeded to restore as new.

iPhone 5 jailbreak done too, and complete PPsync removal as well :D

now just added tweaks, app store apps, configuring some tweaks to my liking, and should be all set

Nope. Works just fine on 7.1.2.

Here's the question I have before diving in on this, and perhaps dhlizard can chime in on this as well.

Can anyone verify that the group behind this jailbreak burned an already known exploit that could be used for a jailbreak, or was this a new exploit that they found and built a jailbreak around that?

I ask because of the entire fiasco with the last iOS 6 jailbreak that killed one of the easiest exploits the teams out there had. If this was a known exploit, that makes one less shot to have at one for iOS 8, should Apple patch it in 7.1.2 or the next iOS 8 beta. If it is a new one, then pretty much no harm/no foul, as I'm sure the evad3rs still have their list of exploits with them.

While I'm happy on 7.0.6, and would love to jump to 7.1.x and jailbreak, I just worry about what we'd have available for iOS 8 when it comes out.

BL.

This jailbreak only uses exploits that Apple were well aware of.

As to do with the iOS 6 'fiasco', nothing important was burned there anyway :p

I dont understand why these people don't wait until Apple releases the 7.1.2 update or even iOS 8? Why even risk it being patched?

Same thing with 7.1, it was like a week away and then Apple patched it.

Why? This works on 7.1.2 just fine.

iOS 7.1.2 has only be released as a non-GM beta to carriers at this time. Apple can still change it to patch any of the exploits used before public release.

I'm aware of this.

Are they going to? Naw.

yeah by this point in the game, apple is probably just like "screw it" and will just work on patching it for iOS 8. much like how they just didn't care anymore when the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak came out.

How do we know they haven't already patched it two weeks ago? The code could be included, but it may not work or run. They could include code for iOS 8 GM, but that doesn't mean it will run on it. It is extremely unlikely that the developers of this jailbreak have tried it on an iOS 7.1.2 device.

This isn't the same as the 5.1.1 jailbreak because iOS 5.1.2 wasn't about to be released at the time, nor did it knowingly exist.
