Another nice little fix: finally when you're listening to music, the lockscreen cannot be dragged at the upper area where the sliders are. It was super annoying that I couldn't move the playhead because my movement was often recognized as a lockscreen slide, it made me angry many times. Now it works just like it should. I think it's a good sign that they indeed still care about user experience.

I never understood why Apple never pushed a notification about system updates to the notification/today centre views. I know sometimes there will be a icon indicator but not always, especially if preferences is in a folder.

I think the #1 improvement in 7.1 is the quicker animation speeds. Macrumors has barely given any credit to that and it makes iOS so much more usable. I can't understand someone not switching because of a slightly darker shade of green since 7.1 makes the animations so fast.

For me...the #1 improvement in 7.1 is that the fingerprint access now actually 'works' 99 percent of the time. Befor7.1 I was experiencing more failures than successes to open the phone using that key feature.

Holding out...
iPad 3 is still usable with iOS 6...
Same thing with 4S...
5s...damn...(Still holding out by deliberately killing the WiFi, so no auto download that eats up the space without my consent)
The new shift key on the keyboard is so confusing...is it on, or is it off?
Is it really that hard to understand the basics of a usable and not fugly UI?

What's frustrating is this would be a lot higher if their servers weren't crap. It downloaded in minutes on my iphone 5S when it first launched but now on my iPad and my moms iphone 5 it's showing 16 hours remaining. (And no, it's not my connection. Uverse 15 mb/s and speedtest shows it's fine and able to download TitanFall update in mins and it was 800mbs)

I downloaded the upgrade day 1 on my iPhone 5, Air and rMini and it took somewhere around 15 minutes for each. At one point it said 16 hours remaining on one of the devices so I would just ignore that and wait for download to finish which will be a lot sooner than that.

Interesting I just got a text message from my cell provider (Three UK) recommending all tethering customers upgrade iOS to the latest version.

Why does a 214 MB update require 1.9 GB of free space? Its so frustrating!
I can't update because of it.

It is frustrating and confusing to me also, it prevented me from updating 2 devices.

But the work around is pretty simple. Just do the install via iTunes instead of OTA. Worked perfect for me.

How do they collect data? given that the fraction sometimes falls significantly.

Might have been higher, but the demand was very high. I was getting 1991 download speeds when I tried a few hours after it was released. The download crashed a few hours later at ~340MB. I was able to download the whole thing in 5 minutes yesterday morning. No luck on the iPad version though, it crashed 3 times before I gave up.

What I want to know is how does someone revert from 7.1 to 7.0.6?

During the release of a new version of iOS you can re-install the previous version to your device as apple still signs that install during the first couple of days to a couple of weeks, if you have the install on your computer hold down the shift key for windows in iTunes Restore, or the alt option key in a mac. you can then select the previous version ipsw file to re-install the older version to your device, you can't downgrade you'll end up wiping out your entire device.

but because 7.1 is a better os than 7.0.6 why would you want to downgrade?

btw, once Apple stops signing 7.0.6 you can't downgrade anymore...

The graph basically shows server usage for downloading 7.1. As the news spreads, more and more will be downloading. We all know that Apple continues to build new and expanded servers, and will continue to do so. It's unfortunate that usage may exceed capacity at times. We have to live with it. And there's no reason you need to have your devices updated within 24 hours of release. Be patient and wait a few days to do it. A benefit is that you might avoid problems experienced by the early adopters. Patience!

I can't update because of it.

Perhaps it copies part of the OS. Applies the update to that copied part. Verifies that the update works correctly. If it does, it applies the changes and you're good to go. If it does not, it scraps the changes and reboots into your existing iOS version and informs you that there was an error.

I hope you understand now. Apple doesn't want everyone to hit their serves at one time. Some of us have learned that you want to wait several days to update, knowing that doing it within the first few days will lead to frustration. Apple has some of the largest server farms in the world, but they still can't handle being hit by all their customers at the same time.

Some may like standing in line outside an Apple store overnight to purchase one of their products. Likewise, the like watching their updates taking hours to download to be one of the first. Personally, I find it less frustrating and difficult to wait a few days or longer. And Apple prefers it too.

That's funny because 7.1 is not even out!!! 7.0.6 is the latest version...I installed it yesterday. I don't know what they are saying...

6% adoption in just 24 hours is justin credible. Nobody else can deliver these numbers. Only the Apple ecosystem has this capability. Celebration time, again!

6% in 24 hours is a huge number in the contest of mobile OS upgrades. Hell other popular platforms (that pretend to be open) would be happy to see 6% upgrading in 24 months.

What is there to celebrate? What is the contest of mobile OS upgrades? Do you remember *LTD* when he posted here?

Thouest unclean thoughts shallest be purge-ed. What foul non-believer hast infected thou pure unadorned gray brain folds? Once one has reached the peak of perfect bliss, why would one ever step down from glorious exaltedness without deception from evil spirits of clutter and chaos?

It isn't a "minor update" at all. 7.1 actually makes my iPad 3 usable again! 7.0.x was sooooo sloooowwwwww.

iPad Mini Retina got a boost as well. Much cleaner animations and smoothed out responsiveness.

Recheck for update.

Oh I don't mind if they do it right away but I always forget to check and found another update (before 7.1) from like a few weeks ago. Maybe after X weeks, push a notification?

This was the main reason I didn't update instantly. If there is a badge I usually take care of it right away, but with out the "push" I never did. I think this is the main reason for "slow" adaptation.

some have mentioned that 7.0.6 was no longer being signed by Apple within hours of 7.1 release.

What's funny is to think that 7.1 hasn't been released despite all the factual evidence that says otherwise.
