So there's actually people that use their iPad without the reduce motion turned on? Guess they like their battery to drain faster...

Wait, what? There's virtually no difference either way with regards to battery life. The screen has to be composited in the 3d hardware either way. The occasional folder animation and app zoom instead of fade (or whatever) isn't going to amount to much, if anything at all.

Can confirm that sites crashes Safari every time in my iPad Air. (7.0.4)

Well, load this page in desktop Safari, and view the page source, click on Console... 105 warnings. Malformed HTML, with lots of shady iframes with Google tracking.

I'd say, good job, mobile Safari, crashing the poorly coded, spammy tracking web sites! :D

It's fixed.

That problem happened without exiting Safari

It's obvious that if you have 5 tabs opened, and you start opening other aplicactions, they will be reloaded.

That's how iOS works

Thats all it takes? Just one app and 5 tabs will reload? I think my iphone 4s might even be better about that then this air is.

Really starting to question if I want to buy this or not.

Like most other apps, once you switch apps or go to the home screen the app goes into sleep/suspend mode. Bring it back and it will load the pages. I presume when it goes into the background that it dumps the tab data in order to save memory, thus why it reloads when you run Safari again.

Same thing happens with games, etc. Why would Safari be any different?

I just hoped that with a newer device they would actually try to make the system better.

The dumping wouldn't happen near as frequently if they added more ram. The reason it dumps with only a few applications open is because it only has 1 gb. Of ram. Damn I really wanted to see this crap fixed in ios 7.1 but I knew that it wouldn't be, or at least not fully, the best they can do Is barely bandaid it I guess.

Do other tablets do this too? The only non ios mobile device I've used recently was a note 3 and I don't think I ever had constant reloads happen at all.

Well, the sites that crash my Air, do not crash my Nexus 7.2 with 2GB RAM. The Air is boxed up and going back to Staples. Really dumb move by Apple to f' up a beautiful machine. May try again next round.

As much as it pains me I think I'm going to hold on to the over 1 grand id spend on the max model air and just go with a cheap tablet until apple gets their crap together next year.

I'm disappointed but then again I would be with 1gb of RAM too.

Do you recommend the nexus 7? I mean its kind of getting dated its been out for like half a year.

Nope. Testing out a dell devue 8, nexus 7 and samsung note 8 right now, all with 2gb ram.....ive been putting each one through rigrous testing, opening up to 30 tabs on each and i cant get any of them to crash.

I did get the dell to start lagging pretty bad when i had about 11 apps and 25 tabs open.

None of these have the refreshing issue either.

I should have stuck around the MS booth at the mall when I was there more rather than spend all my time at the apple store. The venue looked pretty cool and so did the surface. I don't think ill go with either though because them being full windows you have to worry about viruses and stuff alot. I don't know though.

Ill probably just go with either the nexus 7, kindle hdx, or venue 8. Maybe surface but I doubt it.

If you dont find a 7" screen too small, 2nd gen nexus 7 is by far the best 7" tab right now. Id easily take that over the kindle, kobo, etc. for $230... Helluva deal.

I have a nexus 5 phone and i cant even get this to crash on me either. What do you know, it has 2gb ram.

All these 2gb ram devices run better than a $500+ Air, and theyre 1/3 to 1/2 the price. The dell venue, i got last fri for $150 and its 32gb! Works perfect. I got the android version, not windows. Cause just like you, i dont want to get viruses on the venue pro version. But thats a very nice tab for $300. Very good reviews. Even though im sure, theres a way to prevent viruses on it. Check out the dell 8 master threads in the tablet
Pcreviews.com forums. Lots lf great feedback from owners there.

I picked up the Nexus 7.2 (2013) for $179 and it's a steal at that price with a 323 PPI screen, 2 GB RAM, and quad-core Snapdragon CPU. The Android Kitkat release is beautiful the way the UI is organized, very well laid out, runs very fast. That's my keeper out of the Air and rMini, bought all three on Black Friday. I would have kept the Air too, but just not going to put up with the Ultimate Crashing Machine.

I like both N7.2 and DVP8. I still cannot believe that with Venue Pro, I have a real x86 computer in the palm of my hand. I can run ANY desktop software without even thinking about it. And I find desktop UI on 8" display perfectly usable, especially with Dell Active Stylus.

So now that there are x86 CPUs that are energy-efficient yet plenty fast for tablets, and even Dell can build a great tablet running real x86 desktop OS, why in hell Apple cannot just give us OS X running on iPad???????

Is the venue 8 capable of light indie gaming? I play indie games like papers please, risk of rain, dungeons of dredmore, binding of Isaac some stuff like that. Is it capable? Also does it emulate games well?

Biggest two concerns for me are heat (I hate laptops now and will never own a full laptop because everyone I had burned my leg and had tons of fan noise), and viruses. I browse tons of dodgy stuff on tablets and phones because I know that I'm virus free (on the browser) and I can download anything because I know no executables or hidden stuff will harm the system. Not sure if I want to give all that up.

I'm typing this on DV8P and it's awesome. There's no fan, its thin and light, gets 10+ hrs battery life and can run any Windows program. Honestly, I can't fathom why anyone would choose to pay almost double the price for an iPad mini that runs a fisher price OS. Windows 8.1 is amazing on tablets and it obviously destroys ios and android when it comes to functionality.

Well, I for one don't want a desktop UI on tablets, I don't think I'd be able to use that. Maybe it's not a problem for people with good eyesight and normal muscle control, but my not-so-good eyesight and muscle coordination problems would probably make it very difficult for me if Apple were to simply slap OS X on a tablet.

Micrsoft spent more than a decade trying to cram desktop UI onto tablets, and it never really took off. Then Apple came along and showed that a tablet with a UI designed for tablets can sell very well, even if it's not as powerful or feature-rich as a full desktop computer. I expect that eventually, Apple will keep adding more features to iOS until it is as powerful as OS X -- and maybe by that time the two will merge into a single OS. But I don't expect them to just slap OS X as it is now onto a tablet, and I'd be disappointed if they did that.

You don't have to use the desktop, modern UI works great on tablets. However, having the desktop available is a nice bonus since you can hook up a mouse and keyboard and run x86 software.

Can it run world of Warcraft mists of Panderia expansion higher than 15 fps?

Not the animations, but parallax sure does consume more battery:

Unfortunately, there is no way to turn off parallax without turning off the animations

I guess my Air has super powers, I have it enabled and can still go 3 full days between charges with quite a bit of use (browsing, games). I doubt turning off Parallax/animations will drastically improve battery life, but whatever floats your boat! :)
