Yeah, like there's a big difference if it's on or off... There's only two reasons to turn it off:

• You are paranoid about battery life
• You don't like it.

That nonsense about battery having impact because of it. You gotta be kidding!

Sorry for the double post.

But this is disappointing. The tab refreshing on Safari wasn't fixed, as I've been trying to surf the internet normally to see if anything would trigger a tab refresh, and I did, and it didn't take much.

I have 5 tabs open on Safari, along with Tweetbot. That's it. Then I opened the iTunes app for a few seconds. After closing it out completely, I checked Safari again. All my tabs refreshed. Bummer.

They can't fix anything .... because there is nothing to fix.
They can improve memory management, and I think they are working on that, but if you still keep opening 5-6 tabs and a couple of apps, well, you are eating up available resources and Safari will refresh.

You don't have to use the desktop, modern UI works great on tablets. However, having the desktop available is a nice bonus since you can hook up a mouse and keyboard and run x86 software.

.... In my point of view that's hardly considered a feature

OK so then you can just not use the desktop. Some of you can't seem to comprehend the fact that having choices is a good thing. You may not need feature A but someone else does. MS is not forcing you to use the desktop, but I like having it just in case because certain tasks just can't be done well on a touchscreen.

I looked at the MS Surface Pro and it felt like a mediocre tablet and a mediocre ultra-book. I would rather own a great tablet or a great ultra-book. Microsoft needs to stop trying to be all things to all people.

And I'm sorry but the kickstand didn't win me over.

You can discuss about your wonderful Surface on many (many ???) Microsoft based forum, I'm sure. Or even in this forum, where there is a proper section for "other devices".
On the iPad I don't need a desktop. I don't want one.
If I need a desktop I open the lid of my MacBook and I have a desktop with a larger screen and a touchpad your surface could only dream about.
I'm not a fan of the all-in-one solutions: they result in a device with limitations everywhere in my experience.

I think you're right about the limitations of all-in-one solutions today. People said the same thing about smartphones. They don't have a decent camera, they can't take video, they don't carry my entire music/video collection, etc. But they've created an all-in-one solution with the iPhone.

The fact is that convergence is good. If Apple makes an iPad that can run an touch-optimized version of OSX with all of its advanced features, can dock (wirelessly?) into a full desktop experience, and even have an optional snap-on keyboard, I would certainly look at it and get rid of my laptop/iPad combo.

Not everyone can afford an iPhone, iPad, AND a MacBook.

I think we are far from that kind of convergence, but I don't know about the future ...
At the moment I like to have three different devices for three different activities, while I don't upgrade my MacBook every year (I usually follow a 3-4 years cycle for that).

The bolded part sounds like you're saying you should be entitled to free access to Apple's extensive development resources along with beta access to their unstable software that SHOULD not be available to everybody.

You want the betas, you should pay for it. Simple as that, they're not obligated to give you everything for free.

Not sure, MrDillon, if MissKitty ain't got the $99, or thinks it all should be free. Goo'ness but she should go look at the cost to get the same thing from Winders. Now that's gonna cost ya $999!!!
