He said not update OTA!

So just download .ipsw and do shift+restore and browse for that file. :p

Nope. Doesn't work.

The old 'loophole' allowed you to either restore to iOS 7.0.4 and then shift/option + click on "Check For Update" and browse to the latest beta ipsw file, or if already on a beta build (i.e. 7.1 beta 1) you could simply OTA.

Even over OTA now on beta 2 there is an activation check which was previously only done when restoring the device via iTunes with a beta ipsw, not any form of update.

I said shift+restore, not shift+update.

Shift and Restore RESTORES the device, this has NEVER worked for any non registered device. The loophole was all based around updating an existing install of the latest public build of iOS 7, thus skipping the activation and UDID check done on activation. This activation check is now done on Updates, rendering the loophole closed.

You can only RESTORE if your UDID is on a Developer account. Fact.

I never had dev account and installed all betas that way including 7.1 beta 1. What can you say about that? Only thing I did after that is right click on the iPhone in iTunes and restore from backup.

i am also stuck with the activation page. i signed up on one of those udid sites but its still not going past the activation screen. anyone have any recommendations?

I can say either a) your UDID was registered or b) you're lying.

I'm not talking nonsense, I know my stuff, I'm not an idiot.

The loophole was based around UPDATING, it always was. Restoring with a beta ipsw requires a registered device.

I'm not lying. Maybe previous owner of this phone registered it as dev device, which i doubt because it was used by older person.

Yea same here. I really don't wanna go back to those slow animation speeds

Any way to grab the file from iCloud? Thats where my backups are most recent.

I'm not sure sorry. If you have a computer you could try the cloud control panel to see if you can save your backup to the computer from there.

Well if you categorically clicked on Restore and pointed iTunes to a beta ipsw file and it activated, I can tell you without any doubt that the device had it's UDID registered.

If you restore to a beta build you get the 'Hello' screen, swipe to set up, pick your WiFi, enter your WiFi password then proceed to the activation screen. If the UDID isn't on a developer account then you see the lovely white screen telling you the device is not part of the developer programme.

The update loophole used to avoid this because an update didn't check for any activation, mainly because to iTunes and Apple you were ALREADY activated and on iOS 7 via the latest public build. Because of this you used to, before today, be able to update on top of the current build.

This is what Apple stopped today, they added the same activation check done upon a restore, into the update process.

Yes thats exactly what I get after restoring. So I guess somebody without my knowledge registered this device as a dev device. As soon as I get beta 2 ipsw I'll try it again.

How did you install beta?

Did you try shift+restore instead of shift+update?

Hey any recommendation on what i should do?

i updated ota, got the activation screen. i paid a few bucks on one of those sites to get my udid activated but its still not working. Ive turned my phone on and off plenty of times but I'm not sure if I'm screwed or apple servers are just a little slow today. thanks.

Sign up to the Dev program.

i was under the same circumstances. My device updated and activated just fine via OTA

I got registered by a friend, have no access to dev account but can use beta versions.

I was on beta 1 - did the OTA Update to beta 2 - got the Hello screen, added my own apple id again and pressed next twice and its thru - so somehow this thread is wierd

You got registered, so you're good to go. You don't need any access to a Dev account once your device is registered.

How about renaming this thread? I was about to flip out because I have a developer account and my iPad was updating. Based on that title, I thought there might be something wrong with is for everyone who installs it!
