Like the OP said, this thread isn't for discussing whether running the betas without a developer license is right or wrong. It is simply a warning to people who are running iOS 7.1 without a developer license, who could run into a problem if they try updating to beta 2.

Personally I think it's great that non devs are now locked out of beta 2. Look at all the fuss during the 7.0 betas this summer from people who had no clue what they were up to! All the "it's a beta" bs. It's refreshing that there are so little posts regarding 7.1 beta 2 here on the forums.

My dev account expired few months back and never renewed, bought 5s so never registered UDID.
I upgraded last night to beta 2 without any issue, it asked me for Apple ID and all is good.

Just to be on safe side. I will go back to 7.0.4.

Update from IPSW

Hi guys

I am non-developer on B1 now.
If non-developer IPSW will be uploaded (Of B2), the update will be good, or i will get activation error too?

You will get the error

I don't think You can link those types of sites here.
We'll atleast publicly

So it's only pay or 7.0.4?
Intresting, how will it look like when IOS 8 beta will come when it's not possible to install to non-developers now ..

Okay developers you can drop the elitism now. Unless you made one of the immensely popular apps your opinion doesn't mean much to anyone. I'm sure people don't wanna be given a lecture about how they shouldn't download a beta from someone who has 1 app out with 50 downloads lol

Firstly, I am not looking for any favours, that's not the point of my post. Secondly, is this the same "tech savvy" users who flooded the forum with "oh, my device is bricked" or " why is the beta so buggy" ALL over summer for ios 7.0? It would seem a lot (ok, not everyone) of "beta testers" on this forum don't have a clue what they are doing. If Apple lock out these people - all the better, as there will be most interesting discussions to be had in the future here, than "why is my music not syncing with 7.X beta X" and such like. You might not be one of these users, but you have to admit there are a huge number of them here as we all seen prior to the GM of 7.0. Either way, my post is just my personal opinion to which I am entitled to. Take it as you will...

My point being that everyone who uses a beta who isn't a developer is being tarred with the same brush, which is unfair. Are there people who don't grasp what beta software is? Of course. Are they the majority? Of course not. Do "developers" on this forum treat betas like their own elitist entitlement and see themselves as superior? Damn right.

The funny thing is that there will be people on here, with developer accounts, who hit out with the whole "elitist" viewpoint but haven't developed a damn thing in their lives. But hey, they paid $99 to Apple instead of $2.99 to a third party reseller, so it doesn't matter that their not a "real developer" as long as they have developer "status".

Looks like the good news is Beta 2 is actually going to be usable were as Beta 1 was not. Beta 1 on my 5s felt like it was getting hot then rebooted and wouldn't boot up all the way.

I know it'll probably never happen but I would like it if Apple would go on ahead and let EVERYONE put beta OS's on their phone. Obviously, the initial beta wouldn't be available OTA from the latest stable build and would require iTunes to install. But even before that in order to download it you would be taken to a splash page listing out that you're trying BETA software at your own risk, Apple can't be held responsible for failures or bricked devices, we recommend basic users stay on the latest stable release etc. You know, enough to ward off most people and to be honest....a lot of normal users don't even know what a beta is anyway so they couldn't care less and would stay away from it. But for those of us who aren't developers but still want to try the latest software and can be responsible about it, we should be allowed to do so.

When I was using all the iOS 7 betas, I knew what I was getting into and assumed all risks and would blame no one but myself should something go tragically wrong. Luckily nothing did, just the occasional glitch but there was always the option to report bugs and allow diagnostics to be run on the device that would send info back to Apple. Betas are not for the Everyman. They're not meant for you to show off, but I do admit it can be kinda neat to have something a lot of other people don't have and I would suggest this is why developers get so mad when non-devs have their betas. They don't want to share their toys lol!

to me the best thing about non developers not having access is the fact that my instagram account is not filled with these morons posting pics about the update on their phones, literally theres only 20 pictures of people posting beta 2 on there
