I keep getting 'network lost' when I switch my phone on, but then it finds the network seconds later :-/
Hey buddy I solved this problem by switching to a carrier with a short name. The long name is causing lag I think. This is what I noticed was common among the videos on youtube. It sounds illogical but give it a go!
how to switch carrier name man this problem drive me crazy

wait a second you mean to switch to another carrier![]()
Yeah.. I was on VODAFONE IN. So when I turned on 3g the text on status bar got too long.. I dunno if it's because of carrier itself or its name. But I switched to Airtel and didn't have any problem till now.
i think it's logical problem as when 3g or gprs logo appear the lag happens but with edge logo it's just E no problem happened so we have to change the name or the carrier it self
What exactly is this "lag on cellular"?I can confirm the lag on cellular is caused by a long carrier name. When I switch my time to 24hr time there is no lag because there's more room for the carrier name. Really annoying bug on Apple's part.

But what's the actual lag? What works differently and in what way when that is happening?Lag when cellular data is turned on and the carrier name becomes too long. Like when 3G is turned on in a vodafone sim, it shows like this
VODAFONE IN 3G (becomes crammed and data wheel moves to the right of the status bar. Lag)
For Airtel it shows
Airtel 3G (Small. So data wheel stays on the left. No lag)

It's not because of the data wheel. Mine doesn't lag and it's on the right. I believe when iOS has to shorten the carrier name by making the text close together is when it'll start lagging, at least in my case.

Nope 7.1 has fixed any of the minor gripes I've had, my 5S is stable and feels much faster now, very happy with it.
I think people should perhaps put a bit more thought into their thread titles. These are issues you are having, it doesn't make Apple a bad company or their products broken universally. Every single manufacturer will have defective products out of the millions they produce, so try and be a bit more constructive perhaps than making it out like Apple's stock is about to crash and their so terrible. We have 7 iOS devices in my household and they all are running 7.1 and have zero problems, so clearly those issues you pointed out aren't that widespread.
That is one of the strangest things to cause a delay or an issue of sort.Thaaaaaaaank you MAAAAAAN PROBLEM SOLVED YA ALLAH IT's THAT SIMBLE

You can try changing the signal dots to numbers using field test mode as that would take a bit less space and perhaps help with something like this (not sure to what extent though): http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/20/field-test-mode-iphone-signal-strength-numbers/Did anyone find any solution with the strange bug with long carrier names which causes lag?
7.1.1 has not fixed the bug for me. I tried every solution given here but it wasn't fixed.
