It wouldn't surprise me if many things are being rewritten to achieve the improved performance and reliability. That takes time.

It's not THAT different guys. Aside from less crashing it has faster animations and darker green on the icons oh and a new phone app that everyone's complaining about. It's not some monumental thing.
It's hard to say how much had to change under the hood to get rid of the crashing and improve the performance--seems sort of straightforward but might have taken a lot actually.

The thing is, even if huge chunks of of the OS had to be rewritten, that still shouldn't require nearly as much work as iOS 7 required in the first place. After all, that was virtually a ground-up rewrite of previous iOS versions, plus it had all sorts of major new features. No matter how much had to be done to fix up the OS, it still doesn't make sense that 7.1 is taking longer than 7.0 took.

Work on 7.0 started when 6.0 was released and probably even before that, with the beta period being a small part of it. Work on 7.1 stated at best when 7.0 was released if not a bit after, so it's still way less time overall despite the beta period itself perhaps being a bit longer (again, especially since the 7.0 beta period seems to have been shorter than it really should have been in the eyes of many).

iOS 7.1 should be here soon, I know that beta 5 has been pretty okay to run, so I look forward to a GM soon. If the GM even comes out. I remember iOS 6.1 was the first time a GM was disguised as a beta, and it came out on a Friday or Saturday, (Also to note was this was the first beta to be an OTA update from a beta build) And it released to the public that Monday.

Want 7.1 so I can start waiting for 7.2... #FML

Haha, yeah. Just hope the wait isn't as long!!!

It really is insane how long iOS 7.1 is taking.

iOS 7.1 has been in beta longer than iOS 7.0 was.

Think about that. That's crazy. What's the hold up? As that chart shows, 7.1 has not only taken longer than every other .x release in iOS history, but it has actually taken longer than every x.0 release, with the exception of 2.0 and 5.0. And iOS 2.0 (known as iPhone OS 2 at the time) introduced the App Store, while iOS 5.0 introduced more new features than any other release in iOS history.

So what on Earth is taking 7.1 so long? Faster animations, a few minor GUI tweeks, and some efficiency improvements and bug squashes should NOT take this long. Unless there's some major new hidden feature in 7.1, this thing should have been out 2-3 months ago. It's getting kind of ridiculous.

Yeah, for me they are either implementing something else that wasn't in beta 5 (and it's taking way too long) or a major bug has been found while adding the bug fixes and features. Still annoying though. Pleaseeeeeeeee let it be released today! Or tomorrow. Or Monday. Or Tuesday.

No I actually won't say that, but it is a fact that the company is going down.

No. It isn't.

You're saying 'faster animtations' and 'less crashing' like it's no big deal. However, daily springboard crashes and slow animations are annoyances people have to deal with almost every time they use their phone.

Yeah, believe it or not, in my opinion, I think around 90% of people want two issues fixed. The springboard crashes and the animations. Once they are fixed, iOS 7 will be a LOT easier to use, more fun and reliable.

I personally think iOS 7.1 will land today. Forget what's happened in the past.

You can thank me when I'm proved right.

It must be difficult for you to see people who actually enjoy tech. It makes me wonder why you would even come and read a thread like this because you clearly could not care less. It's true I'm one of those people who will be standing in line on launch day for the iPhone 6. That must really bug you. I'm sure you must have soemthing more important to do than troll threads of things you find useless, but yet here you are.

It's not difficult at all for me to see people enjoy tech. I enjoy it. So just enjoy it already and stop bitching about it. iOS 7.1 will be released and people will still experience crashes and a whole new series of threads will be written about how terrible 7.1 is and how this doesn't work and that looks terrible and blah blah blah. If you enjoy your tech just enjoy it and be done with it.

What do you guys enjoy more? Your iDevices or complaining about your iDevices? I think for the majority of you it's the latter.

Yes those are important things but a lot a people are having some pipe dream that it's gonna be so different. Speeding up animations literally takes a few minutes of inputting different numbers for timing. So I'm guessing fixing all the crashing took the 6 months. Man that code must have been a total mess. Haha.

Think today could be the day??? I really hope this update fixes the crash problem.

My Air crashed 5-6 times last night. No reboot's, but app crashes. It's probably impossible that its actually getting worse, but it seems like it to me.

It really is disappointing that they ruined near perfect hardware with substandard software. Isn't the iPad the "best web browsing experience ever"? It sucks that there is such an inherent problem with one of the most used features of iOS devices. <End Rant>

Here's to hoping today is the day!

Benefits of iOS 7.0.x — no need to refresh, since every time you switch back to mobile Safari from a different app it refreshes all your open windows without asking you! :D

Yeah guys I thought it would have been released Monday, then yesterday, and now let's see what will happen today

I don't care how much effort it took them. I just want these issues gone and 7.1 does that, so I want 7.1. :)
