iPhone 4 is Responsive - One forum member who installed iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 said the device was as responsive as under iOS 6, though many of the UI graphics trickery is disabled.

Yeah, just installed on the iPhone 4. Compared to the iPhone 5 the moving background is disabled, and there is a noticeable lag (lower frame rate) when you slide to unlock and the effect where you see the icons fly in directly after unlocking. There's also a bit of jerkiness when scrolling through the settings menu. Not too concerned about it, just kinda reminded me of the original iPhone running iOS 3. Hopefully the OS will be optimised in further builds.

Edit: also, I like the clock app that now shows the actual time. While they're at it they should've made the weather app live with temperature as well.

is there a way to change an icon without jailbreaking the iphone ?

safari's icon hurts my eyes

if it was only safari... what to say about game center etc...

sometimes, you wonder if they were really produced by Apple...

Do you think apple will update those

icons before the general release ?

1. What is unnecessary about displaying useful information that I'd like to see?
2. There's no need to copy Android's cluttered system, it's possible to design much cleaner way of displaying various information and shortcuts to quick actions that you can do without launching full app (like, for example, the Velox tweak for jailbroken devices)
3. Without widgets you not only need to exit the app to see the stuff you desire, but also launch a different app that shows it.
4. I don't think iOS 7 does anything that gives you quicker access to essential information and actions than normally launching apps. Well, there is control center which is very limited and not customizable, so it's not at all a replacement for widgets.

Umm, if you check, there is a glancable menu in notification centre. If there are APIs for that (I need to check the developer videos), then it will be able to give the same amount of info that a home screen widget can do. Without having to leave the app, and without making a mess on the home screen.

People who complain about home screen widgets and disapprove of other ways you can get the same amount of info give me the impression that they just like to show them off, and like the way they look. Not for the content. And if that's your goal, iOS 7 is not for you. Jony Ive believes in simplicity, and home screen widgets will not bring order to complexity. It creates more complexity.

When you say graphic UI is limited on the iPhone 4, does that mean that cool moving icons against the picture on the main menu isn't there?:(

No, the dynamic thing still works, but the dock is grey instead of being translucent and control center is also grey instead of being translucent. And one more thing the lock screen is not animated.

I and every other end user get to be design critics because it's OUR MONEY that's paying for these devices. You damn right I get to be a critic because I am the one that is interacting with the device. It needs to make me want to use it, and for me, the flat design doesn't cut it. I like some of the new functionality, but I want eye candy. It doesn't have to be skeuomorphism, just something that is visually stunning to look at. Those icons are what I'd expect from a cheap Chinese knock off of iOS.

The thing is that when the rumours came of the iOS 7 redesign, all the "UI and UX specialists" came forward on the forums, to explain why that's a bad idea.

If you don't like iOS 7, fine then. You don't like it. People complained a lot that Apple need to take risks. They did here. When you do a change like that, it will always alienate a group of users (like you).

The main thing is that a lot of people are critiquing as if they are design specialists, and I'll take it for their word that they are better UI designers than all the ones at Apple. If you don't like it, say you don't like it. But saying stuff like "this isn't Apple" or "Steve would have gone mad" are just plain silly stuff.

apple has taken some risks, well controlled ones by adding some features you can find on cydia, wp or android for 2/3 years..., but you can't deny that most of those icons should be modified

I don't mind a new design. However, its too flat.
There is no shadows at all. Sure we do have shadows on Mac desktop so why not on iOS? Shadows give some depth of visual objects.
On the related note, I think that this OS is very fast and smooth.

My main gripe is the new calendar, it's awful. I always use it in month view and each day where there is an event there is a dot by the side and when tapped the events of that day are underneath.

With this now in month view the only number highlighted is today, you can't see any other days with events and when you click each day it starts at midnight so you then have to scroll down to find your events. Dire.

Downloaded CalenMob instead. Also the spotlight search doesn't work for me. Hitting search does't do anything

I like iOS 6 icons more, after some thinking.
I don't like this flat design at all.

Actually I like these new icons.

But the combination between these new apple-icons and the other app icons will look awfull...

Ive made some really strange "choices".
How a "genius" of his caliber can make so many design mistakes.
Gamecenter and Photo. The problem is their resemblance, this is completely the opposite of intelligent design.
There is something else quite strange, an icon when you see it, you must know what the application will do without reading the title.
Passbook for example, was a good example, we see very clearly that the old version had airline / cinema tickets ... and they are in a pocket = concept of passbook.
The new version, it is almost impossible to guess for a person without knowing the service before .
This is not necessarily a decline in the aesthetic that is unique to each, but in the loss of sense of design.
The App photo, without the title, you could start thinking about a drawing software, what does tell us this is a photo app ?
Newsstand: a shelf with a newspaper above. Very simple, this is where I'm going to read my newspaper.
With the new icon there are brochures with a plane and a sun. It could be a travel app.
I know very well that Ive wanted to get rid of the meaning of the image to move to a more abstract concept, but it gives an ergonomic aberration to the icons.
In short, Apple should modify all those icons.
Talking about the graphic quality many complained all about it..
This reminds the design used 15 years ago when graphics restrictions were present in the computer, so why such design with retina displays

- Cellular data track by-app basis: About time. I think Android always had this, or maybe it was just memory. In any case, good to see iOS is catching up.

- Update Apps Automatically: Never knew this in the App Store.... Yes there is the Update section, but there is a button called "update" next to the app name... You don't nee to tap this.

- iTunes Radio: All you need to do it wait an hour to reset skips..... I can do that :)

Although, i think people may complain about this..... People should have the right to fast forward song if they want like on CD. If not, then i wonder how many people will it will annoy, and get to the point, its not good.

Only time will tell.

One thing I still do miss from my Android is profiles, i.e. turn phone on silent when I'm at work, either by time or a geofence type thing.
I'd also love custom keyboards (swiftkey was my favourite) but I have resigned myself to never getting that.

On previous "innovations" history I can see profiles coming in ios8 or 9!

The swipe up to change bluetooth quickly, etc was on my s2 years ago (ok its swipe down but you get my point). Live wallpaper was an amusement but quickly outlived it's usefulness.

I switched to ios last year as I was fed up with the reliability and usability of Android (promises so much but I personally found it wanting in actual every day use). I'm ambivalent towards the new look and feel (I'm no designer), I just hope the usability remains at the same high level.

I did ask this somewhere else, but any chance someone can please check if there's a select all button within edit in the photos app?

I'll give you the simple answer. IT"S MY MONEY. I own a lot of Apple products and a good chunk of their stock. What I know about design is that the design needs to make me want to use the product. Period. End of Story.

Luckly for you you have the choice to not use it. Period.

Any more customisation of Do not Disturb? Finer grained controls would make this little feature perfect.

Calendar is aware of driving distance and location.

It would be nice if DND was aware of calendar, and set DND automatically when you are in a meeting, at a concert, etc. Or even 'while you are in transit'...
