let me get this straight: I have windows, i downloaded IOS 7 GM and installed itt, now it says that my phone cant be used, does that mean i now have IOS 7 GM? Or does it mean that i screwed up?

If your phone is working, it can be used .. however, you CANNOT sync it anymore without iTunes 11.1 !!

Restoring backup from iCloud will work fine though

What version of iOS 7 build do you have on your phone? If it's the GM build version, then you have it.

I'm a developer member and Here's what I found:

iPad Mini1455 (Verizon) - needs iTunes 11.1 to install iOS 7 GM. Previously the beta version would install from the current iTunes and OTA as updates became available.

The OTA consumer version of iOS 7.0 will be available after the 18th.

It is also normal once iTunes has been uodated that one can't restore to an older iOS. My guess is it's a kind of way to prevent loading in previous versions for Jail Breaking.

Also note the GM version installed easily and restored from my back up.

----------

BTW I hope they have fixed some of the bugs in the GM version. Although Beta 6 was a vast speed and error improvement over the first Beta it still has memory crashes (iOS closes programs because they aren't friendly to the new memory management).

curious, why are people restoring instead of just updating? Would solve the itunes 11.2 needed issues. Unless of course you want to start fresh?

Once updated, you cannot use iTunes at all with the GM build unless you upgrade iTunes ... so no local syncing or backup !

Random guesses: Treating it like a beta, reading the release notes, bad advice from the forum, not knowing better... Probably more. I'm on Windows so it was update or iCloud.

Pretty sure you can update without iTunes 11.1.

Don't see why you can't restore to an older version of iOS as long as Apple is still signing it for the device you have.

If all you need is pretty much just backup and you can use iCloud then you can do without it all.

I have a tester who I upgraded to the GM release to finalize testing for my app and whom only has access to a Windows PC. Tried to restore from a back up and can't because it requires a version of iTunes that hasn't been released yet for his computer. He's across country right now, or I'd just have him swing over and restore it via my computer

Has anyone found a workaround? Even reverting back to iOS 6 would work. Is it possible for iExplorer or something to restore the phone

He can restore from iCloud now if he has a good backup there. If not, downgrade to iOS 6, restore from his backup, then *update* to iOS 7 (not restore).

Thanks! What's the easiest way to downgrade to iOS 6 then? iTunes will no longer recognize his phone.

You CAN restore using iTunes 11.0. At the end, it will complain it needs 11.1, but by that point your phone is restored and you can restore your backup from iCloud.

I just came across this error as well. I am on windows 7 and cannot get iTunes beta. Even though it says that error, the GM is still on my phone, or beta 6? What I was using last.

Check the build version on the phone and you'll know for sure.

how can I downgrade back to the stable version of iTunes after installing the beta? Or can I just keep it and update accordingly?

Just keep it and update to the final on the 18th.

but don't betas expire? What happens in that case? I think I have 11.1 beta 1 and I know beta 2 is out so will this be ok until 18th when its officially released and I can then update?

It'll be fine til the 18th.

I updated to GM on my PC.

Got yesterday's iCloud backup on the new GM.... Can I got back to Beta 6/7 ?

Also, If it possible to pull the backup made on iTunes move it to a Mac ?

Depends. Is the iPhone saying that or iTunes? iTunes 11.0 will not currently work with iOS 7, which would mean you successfully installed the GM.
