I have the GM with a fresh install on my iPad 3 and the entire OS is sluggish and slow. It takes roughly ~12 seconds to pop a thumbnail up to set a wallpaper and ~8 to ~10 seconds to actually set it.

I'm not sure how this passed Apple performance testing and quality control.

I'm also getting this issue. Besides this and the lag when switching between setting tabs, the rest of the OS seems pretty smooth after i've resetted all settings.

That said, I don't think iPad iOS 7 is ready for prime time though.

:(

Yep also having major lag issues on ipad 4. The worst lag comes when changing wallpapers. I "upgraded" from beta 6. However from the looks of this thread it doesnt really matter how you did it. I have reset all settings - doesnt seem to help at all.

Searched for lag/stuttering and came here. Having the same issue on an iPad 4...bummer

iOS 7 for iPad it's a beta not a GM.
I think iOS 7 for iPad run perfect with presentation of iPad 5
At first I thought "naaa nonsens", but I just saw the iPad4 video from WeegieMac (see other thread) and I must say opening and closing Safari looks really different on an iPad3. Upon closing Safari (pinching with 5 fingers) the screens turns really dark, upon opening Safari it flickers in brightness, definately Bèta-style.

iPad 4 Lag

I've got some serious keyboard typing lag... 9 seconds from the time i press a key until it shows, and thats for every letter i put in, I thought about trying to reply to this thread from it but thought i wouldn't be done until iOS 8.1.4. Have held back on iPad iOS until the GM, had iOS7 beta 1->GM on my iPhone5 without any real problems :S

That's not lag, that's keyboard daemon crashing. See my video, I had this issue too. Had to reinstall.

Well I've decided that tomorrow I'm going to downgrade back to iOS 6 on my iPad 4th Gen.

It's nothing to do with the icons, the look, etc. I love how iOS 7 looks but I cannot accept this drop in responsiveness and quality of performance. If Apple make the iPad as responsive as it is on iOS 6 then I'll update to iOS 7.1 or whatever.

This post was a nightmare to type due to the touch delay and keyboard lag alone.

Shame.

IPAD IOS 7 Beta or GM?

So is the Ipad IOS 7 in the GM or still beta? I thought they had the same release date? It seems beta to me, like really beta. They dont have long to fix these issues, they better get moving, or postpone the release of the Ipad version then.

This is a shame that it is going on. They need to delay IOS 7 for ipad if they cannot get this stuff fixed by the final public release. Apples standards are falling...

How bout the iPad Mini? Color me optimistic but concerned now.

I have half the mind to purchase a preowned Mini at Best Buy, install ios 7 on it and see what happens. No fuss, no mess if it doesn't pan out well so be it as it was the guinea pig test run.

Same issues here. We shouldn't have to completely wipe our devices to make the OS work right.

I completely agree. Obviously apple cannot expect users to do this everytime an update comes out but that is always what everyone suggests. Bogus!!!

PEOPLE, calm down, it's still in bet... ohh wait what?

Lol no doubt ow many times has that been uttered over the last 2-3 months.

Confirmed: Terrible performance on the iPad 3

I have the GM with a fresh install on my iPad 3 and the entire OS is sluggish and slow. It takes roughly ~12 seconds to pop a thumbnail up to set a wallpaper and ~8 to ~10 seconds to actually set it.

As well, orientation rotation animations are janky and drop frames; keyboard input is terrible too.

I'm not sure how this passed Apple performance testing and quality control.

Actually what I and many others said was quit complaining about beta software being buggy.

Now that it's out of beta you can complain to your heart's content! :D

Although I am a bit of a hypocrite because I complained a lot about the state of iOS 6 maps before they were released, cause I knew they were going to be tragic.

I am surprised that everybody still hates the maps made by apple. I remember last year I went to France to visit my aunt, she lives in a small isolated village near a forest with very few roads and back than I was using ios 6 beta 4 on iphone 4 and my 3g speed was awful like 2 mbps. Those maps managed to take me right in front of her house with no problems and the system was always choosing the shortcuts and I remember my parents were so scared and we were running out of gas but those maps were great. Few days later I restored my iphone 4 to 5.1.1 where I had google maps. I went to Paris to visit the most common places a tourist would visit. I set the gps destination to eiffel tower and I arrived almost a mile away from the tower itself and for god's sake... I was in the middle of a big city and those crappy maps weren't able to take me to a very famous place even with very good 3g connection.

[iOS 7 GM] Major lag on 4th gen iPad

I reported some missing and misplaced POIs the day maps came out and they still haven't been fixed.

Google took about 4-5 months to add a POI I told them about - by comparison.

Brand new iPad 4 out of the box and installed iOS 7 GM to it. Brand new iCloud account created when setting up the new iPad. Performance is horrid on the device. Springboard crash, distorted display on transitions and animations. It's horrible.

IMO this is not ready for prime time on the iPad.

Go back to ios 6 while you still can and install a bunch of apps on it so that your free space is 2.7 Gb. If you connect your ipad to wifi it will download the ios 7 update via ota and it will raise your "other" bar in itunes and you'll get stuck with ios 7 download files on your ipad.

well, we'll find out whether there's any improvement in about 3 days time

hopefully it'll suck less

:(

But it won't. It is the gm. The final version being distributed to consumers, so no there will not be any improvements in 3 days

Then I can't understand how apple let this one slip through. 10s to change a wallpaper ... Geez.

Maybe they will improve it once ipad 5 is launched?

:(

Would someone who still has ios 7 installed please try turning on the increase contrast option in accessibility? I did this on my iPhone 4S and the performance was insanely better than it already was.

I don't believe it is that bad that you had so much issues just writing that post. I'm having no lag or touch delay at all typing this on my iPad 4. There must be something wrong with your iPad, or the way you installed iOS 7.

It's been 10 years and google maps still show the housing estate I live on as empty land..... :p

There was a lot of back spacing and it wasn't as smooth and fluid as typing is on iOS 6. On iOS 6 I can touch type on iPad as quickly as a physical keyboard, it's that smooth and responsive. iOS 7's keyboard is not, and the delay when using Shift to use capitals is a nightmare. The responsiveness may be in line with your expectations and use but it's not with mine and not with previous experience.

There is no correct "way" to install iOS. I've been doing the beta/GM stuff since iOS 4, and I always do the same thing; DFU restore and set up as new phone/iPad. Some update, some restore, other than that iTunes does the same thing regardless.

The issues I mentioned have been present since early betas, the pinch to home gesture animation isn't a bug it's just sloppy programming.

If you can't see the performance issues, that's great for you. There is a difference in smoothness of certain animations between iOS 6 and iOS 7, that my friend is fact. Unfortunately.

No need to be condescending. Mine has no performance issues. Animations are as smooth as iOS 6. Some animations are slower than iOS 6, but that's by design, but they're smooth all the same.
