Power-up iMessage. Put in location tagging, audio clips, emoticons, games, a white board, custom backgrounds, popup reply/compose, mobile data/wifi calls, integrated FaceTime video chatting.

I only ask of apple 3 things: 1. toggles for wi-fi, 3G, etc. 2. The ability to set default apps (please oh please) 3. Change the darn miltitasking bar volume slider to a brightness slider!

I actually don't have much issue with ios. However, I do think ios is deficient in a few areas that would dramatically improve the platform:

1. Better inter-app communication.
I should be able to share anything with any app. I shouldn't be restricted to what Apple says (eg Facebook, twitter, photos, etc). Let me decide where to open a link, copy a file, move a file, move a snippet, etc.

2. OS wide communication (a la Services menu) for 3rd party apps
So needed.

3. Automator for ios.
It's time.

I could care less about customizing my home screen, widgets or 3rd party keyboards.

I really hope with iOS7 that apple takes the opportunity to differentiate the iPad from the iPhone (they've done some of this already).

I think Apple has a very narrow window to get the iPad/iOS7 up to par before two things happen:

A) everyone who is happy with the simplistic way the iPad works now (which is really just a big phone OS, same can be said for android so not trying to bash apple) will just buy the less expensive and lower margin iPad mini. I don't think Apple really wants that regardless of what Tim Cook says.

B) People who want more from a tablet and would be willing to spend more on one will start to gravitate towards windows 8 tablets like the Surface Pro (version 2 or 3 when the niggles are worked out).

I don't think Apple wants to be known as the most popular vendor for the "toy" IPad mini while people who want a real tablet shop elsewhere (not saying this is true about the mini. Speaking strictly about perception).

So for iOS7 (thinking iPad specific here).

Stylus support. This could be a huge differentiator for the full sized iPad vs. mini

Ability to change font sizes in Safari and other changes that make it more like a full browser. We don't all have 20/20 vision and that doesn't stop me from using any other device except iOS devices!

Some kind of true multitasking, ala split screen. Although I'm not yet sure exactly how that functionality would work. Also a better way to switch between apps. I could see the notification gesture used in OSX making it to the iPad as a way to reveal a drawer of live previews of open apps.

The ability to store any files in a central location. Make it an app. Call it "My Stuff" or something like that. Make the navigation inside simple. I'm not asking for Finder in iOS but I should be able to store an .exe file that I know I'll need to send to a collaborator on the computer I have with me even if that is an iPad. All apps can then link to this "My Stuff" app in the same way that you can link to twitter/facebook/dropbox. And the "My Stuff" app can be optionally synced with iCloud.

Bring Preview to iOS. Being able to add annotations that will show up the same in iOS and on a Mac would be great and iBooks is a horrible default pdf viewer!

And yes the ability to set alternative default apps would be nice although not a deal breaker.

Sorry for the long post...

Do not disturb - why the hell exceptions works just for calls? I want to get messages from my girl, but i can't set it up.

Night Mode - please, really, don't burn my eyes out when i need to note something in the middle of night.

When I'm at home, automatically turn 3G off. The reception is poor and it drains the battery.

When I'm at the office, go to Silent Mode.

Once I leave home, turn Wifi off and 3G back on. And turn the volume to a preset level. Etc etc.

How hard could this possibly be? PROFILES please!

Don't know if this is truly an IOS 7 issue but the need to merge/combine Apple ID stuff and thus simplify iMessage etc. I have an apple id based with my purchased applications and then the .me and now .icloud that I have along with the whole cloud backup stuff. The whole thing is confusing and I get some messages on my phone and pad and some only on my phone, etc. I can't get all the id's added. etc. They have to allow us to simplify this world.

I'd also like to get rid of game center or totally disable it so when I start games I don't have to cancel it.

3. "Official" side menu.

Apple should adopt the "side menu" as featured in countless iOS apps, for example Facebook. Apple should create an API for developers to use, so users won't have to deal with different "side menu" behavior in different apps.

5. Ability to hide stock apps.

How often do you need a compass or check out the stock market? How often do you read magazines on your iPhone? Instead of squeezing in all unused apps in some remote folder, how about actually being able to hide them completely.
Notice I say "hide" the app wouldn't be deleted, it would just not be shown on the home screen.

Apple could do this two ways: Showing a little black minus sign on the default apps when you enter jiggly mode, tapping this would take the app away from the home screen.

In the Settings app have a On/Off toggle "Show app on Home Screen" in every stock apps section.

These two methods would complement each other.

Bringing back a hidden app would be as simple as toggling the switch to "On". I imagine some less tech-savvy users might go into the App Store to try to bring back a hidden app. Thus, if you search for a hidden app in the App Store it should show up with a "Show on Home Screen" button. Tapping the button would have the exact same effect as toggling the switch in Settings. If you search for a stock app which is not hidden in the App Store, nothing would show up.

6.*Ability to choose default apps.

Apple's stock apps really doesn't hold a candle to some of the third-party apps, so why can't we choose what apps to use as default apps?

Choosing default apps would be done in Settings, apps wouldn't be allowed to pester you with notifications telling you "Blabla-app doesn't seem to be the default app, would you like to change this?".*

Apple would have to provide an API which developers would have to implement to enable their apps to be eligible as default apps.

8. "Quick Response" interface for SMS/chat apps.

A interface similar to the Facebook and Twitter, "Share-cards" in iOS. Tapping once on a notification banner would bring the quick response interface up, double-tapping would bring you to the app (this could be toggled On/Off in Settings).

An API would be made available for third-party apps to hook into the quick response interface, perhaps allowing developers to skin the UI as well.

21.*Combine Maps & Compass.

There's no need for a standalone Compass app.

If Apple even did half of these, i'd stay. I'd add Siri needs to be like Google Now. Google Now is just so awesome!

Also, I like how in iTunes you can choose the next track. NEEDS TO BE IN iOS7

This is why Siri needs to get smarter like Google Now. Profiles are last decade with Nokia. We need Geo-Time updates/modifications with our phones to change as our day goes along.

central document folder that is common space for all apps. apps can read and write straight onto this memory space instead of having to make a copy for its own use.

ability to switch out default apps. Or at least just maps and browser and email client. Add new API so Siri can input into those three types of third party apps

longer battery life.

Had an idea for widgets,
they are only available on the iWatch.

Basically apps could be programmed with the support for an iWatch Widget, which the iWatch displays. The widgets would have preset styles, which via an API similar to Passbook, the iPhone/iPad could push messages to the watch to update.

The iWatch would just basically need support for the API, and maybe the existing functions an iPod Nano has and the ability to send messages back to the iDevice (so making it possible to trigger Siri for example).

On Gruber's latest pod they are expecting iOS7 to be more of an iterative update vs an overhaul. I tend to believe them, as long as all updates are for the masses not power users.

There was also some guy on a previous podcast who said iOS is "feature complete" not sure where that came from.

Automator is basically dead on the Mac. I can't see it coming to iOS, however nice that may be!

iOS 7 needs a fresh design. Something a bit risky and a little less safe than the previous 6 versions. That's what it really takes to innovate.

I think they said that though with the assumption that neither Ive or Federighi would have enough time for an overhaul and that iOS 7 was probably aleady underway when Cook's org changes were announced. Not sure how easy it is t change direction mid stream.

I would hope so if they planning on a summer release. I would imagine iOS 7 has been in development since before the initial iOS 6 release.

Well, considering the lackluster features in IOS6, one might construe that after IOS5, the iphone was as "complete" as it was intended to be, and they are now scrapping the bottom of the barrel to find things to add.

Also, any complete overhaul of IOS would definitely require time, and they might want to time it with a new release of the iphone (iphone6 might finally go quad-core in tandem with whatever new power features IOS8 introduces), rather than alongside what many would consider an incremental refresh.

For a while, I agreed with making toggles more readily accessible. Once I am within range of my house or office, my phone will simply connect to my wifi automatically. Once in a while, I use bluetooth to control my ipad or macbook during presentations. However, I find that leaving wifi/bluetooth always on consumes so little power that there isn't really much need for me to have to worry about turning them off.

Could we have been attacking this issue from the wrong perspective? Instead of "Why not make them easier to manage", shouldn't it be "Why should I even have to manage these settings at all?" And the point is that even with all these power-draining features (location services, wifi, bluetooth etc) left constantly on, my phone still has more than enough juice to last me through the day.

Another thing - I am liking the swipe to reveal settings interface of apps like wordpress, mailbox and tapatalk. I would like to see such a feature for the settings app. After so many taps to change a setting, it would be nice to be able to swipe and quickly switch to another setting, rather than keep tapping "back" repeatedly. :)

Already posted this on another thread but basically, I want them to copy Meego Harmattan and webOS. Mostly the former.

1. Improved multitasking. The current implementation is clunky. I want decent mini views of everything running like Expose/Mission Control and the option to close all at once. If i have multiple windows of the same app stick them together like a deck of cards. webOS and Meego have the best multitasking implementations to date. Apple should copy that.

2. The app-centric UI is ancient. Searching for what app you want to launch is the new norm and most would rather just take a quick glance at the basics (social, calendar, and messaging), which means scrolling through pages upon pages of apps on the home screen to get anything done is archaic. Throw them in a folder or separate screen and clear the main homescreen/desktop for more important stuff.

3. Live feeds/home screen. Let me know at a quick glance whats happening with my calendar, twitter, facebook, messaging etc without having to launch each app accordingly. Another nod to the way Meego/N9 does this.

4. Quick access to settings. They already copied Android's notification concept might as well finish the job and add quick toggles for Wi-Fi, BT, Airplane, Brightness etc. or copy webOS's implementation by putting a little gear in the top right that drops down and reveals them.

Right now doing something in iOS takes 3-5 taps instead of 1-2 and it gets tiresome and boring fast.

Why can't i have something like this

Feeds/Notifications, Apps, Multitasking. Done. Simple, quick and functional

Instead of this chaos

Responses bolded.

Toggles in the Notification Center
-To a degree I think this would be useful....though with the iPhone's battery life, I don't find the need to turn things on and off....simply leave everything on!

Do something with the Notification Center especially on the iPad (it looks pathetic and is a wasted opportunity)
-Agreed, there are a number of ways they could go here....though I don't see Android's notification center as much better....

Tweak that useless Search Window on the left
(dare i say it, replace it with real time infos/widgets?)
-Agreed....never use it, they could do something with it or get rid of it....I don't know.

Default Weather App for the iPad
-As long as it isn't the same as the default weather app on the iPhone, which I find completely useless.

QuickReply for SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger etc.
-I guess I'm not familiar with what people mean by QuickReply....I thought they implemented a sort of QuickReply in iOS6....maybe that only has to do with calls....you can see I use it alot lol...

Live Icons (Clock + Weather)
-I think the weather here is a given....simple temp and sun/cloud/rain/snow.

UNLIMITED Apps in one Folder (i dont need 4 folders called "Games")
-Heavily agreed....though it does help me clean out my folders every now and again!

Swipe Up to bring up the App Switcher instead of using the Home Button
-Four finger swipe up does this on the iPad, but I concur more gestures in general for the iPhone.

Place the Apps wherever you want
-Don't really care about this, though if they introduce widgets or sizable icons this will happen as a byproduct

"Open With ..." let me choose different browsers etc as default
-Personally don't care but sure.

Do something with the Lockscreen? it hasnt been changed since 2007.
-Meh...aesthetically maybe, but I don't really see a need to change an iconic lock screen.....

now that i think about it, all of those will be back tmrw :D
it would be nice to have it by default however, jailbreaking is getting tiresome (especially waiting for it)

I would say organize your screens better.....while I concur there could be some "live" data displayed....I actually like how I have my iPhone 5 set up and don't find it unorganized or chaotic at all....

Quicker UI animations.

After getting used to the x1.6 setting on FakeClockUp, the slow and steady nature of stock iOS animations is near intolerable.

if there is no iOS 7 preview this march, then the new OS would come out at wwdc which would ship in aug-sep.

I hope for a redesign, but i'm guessing it would be minor increment update regarding the UI.
