would be nice for weather to be on the home screen with an ever changing pic corresponding to the weather pulled from the net as background but that's purely so it would look pretty ;)

That would be cool, but it would kill battery life. Personally, I'm happy with iOS as it is now UI-wise.

I would love to see the option to set default apps, and Siri APIs so apps can work with Siri. Also an API for sharing so for example you can share directly from the photo app to WhatsApp or Instagram.

One last thing which would be cool but I don't think will happen is what is outlined in this article; essentially Apple should stop making default apps and create a contest for developers to create an app to replace each of its default apps. In the end Apple should choose the best app and give the developer publicity by shipping the app as default in the next version of iOS.

What do you guys think of the article?

When I say ever changing picture I didn't mean like continuously, I just thought that say ever 4 or 6 hours it could connect briefly to a weather server and just pull off a small new pic and some weather data.

As for apple not making the default apps, my concern with that is that we'd be expected to pay extra for the already included apps, or we'd have to suffer advertising in the basic apps if we didn't cough up!

Verbal passwords

I'd personally like to see verbal pass codes. When you're using siri in a situation that should be totally hands free (e.g., driving. Putting in contacts), having it ask to key in your password by hand is irritating.

"Siri, read me my last text."
"I cannot read it while your iphone is locked. What is your passcode."
"5-5-5-5"
"Here is your last text...."

Eeek, that'd be a terrible idea.

I'd use it. And you'd also have the option to type it in if you wanted, so you don't have to say it in a crowded coffee shop or something. But, if you're alone in your car, it'd be handy.

Although, the discussed potential iwatch feature of not having to enter a password if your iWatch is within a certain proximity would work just as well.

I just see this being a security hassle for the average (not that bright) user.

Maybe have it be off by default?

I presume that was a dig. And sure on the deafult thing. It'd be more the exception than the rule.

Banks use verbal passcodes in their voice systems.
"Please say or enter your pass code."

People who come to Macrumors are not the average users for iOS devices.

I already have my own post about this, but I want as many peoples opinions as i can get.

With the new apple releases I want to see this with IOS 7 and the apple hard ware.

1st and foremost, I would love if apple released the "active stylus" that they have applied for patent I would be ecstatic. I think going paperless with IOS would be something great as a whole that can reach to a whole new array of costumers (like myself)

Secondly, building on the "active stylus" if apple made a notes application (or added to the current notes application) to take on handwritten notes. I know there are tons of handwriting apps out there. But if apple developed one within its OS already, and maybe integrated the organization tool they have within ibooks application, then a native apple app for handwritten notes that would sync seamlessly with iCloud from iPhone to iPad would be the best of the best.

Third, a truly split-screen multitasking experience. With the hardware specs of the iPad even beginning at iPad 2 this can be easily done with the amount of ram and memory stored natively on the device. The productivity level would go through the roof with a feature like this (considering I use my iPad strictly for school and business).

I would love to see everyones input on my hopes and wishes of IOS 7 and the future of apples hardware. Because I've been looking at the new samsung devices and hoping and praying that apple can have a good answer to the recently released S-Pen and samsung devices. ( Apple always does it better ;) )

There are a lot that Apple can improve on in iOS7.... I really hope it will blow our mind away

Was watching Google I/O from last year.

Pretty embarrassing that iOS doesn't have some of these features. And these are not Samsung gimmicky features.

I agree, the way the apple downplays samsungs innovation by calling it "gimmicky". Yes some of the features may seem like a waste, but at least they are actively trying to innovate their devices and features instead of apple who will sell relatively the same device until they change very minute features and call it innovation.

Am I bashing apple at all, absolutely not. They are obviously more business "oriented" then me just by looking at sales figures and popularity. Am I saying apple can do more? Absolutely, if they were to use the mindset samsung has being, everything can be better as opposed to the apple mindset being, why change it if its working. Then apples engineers and development staff could blow the whole mobile device platform out of the water.

I'm a heavy texter and sometimes texts up to a couple of 100's of texts per day. What I'd like to see is an easier way to keep track of your conversation. For instance:

- Search within a conversation for a certain keyword
- "Timeline":ish, e.g. be able to easier go back X days/weeks/months/years to see older messages in the conversation
- "Find" all attachments(images/videos/etc)

Other than that, I definitely second the UI refresh. It's about time now! Maybe with the UI refresh, the messages-updates I've suggested above will be easier to incorporate!

Second this!

fingerprint scan lock screen and a way to close all the opened apps with one tap please!

man of simple requirements

I just want to be able to have an envelope in the home screen for new messages... not "Message from name", not "Hi, your dinners on the table" - just an envelope to say I've a message so I don't have to unlock my phone and check if I've got notifications set to none.

Is that a big ask?

1. Mission Control (Airplane mode, Wifi, Bluetooth, Torch on/off switch in notification centre)
2. Better multi-tasking bar (elaborated view, option to close all apps at once)
3. Option to reply and delete emails & text messages from notification centre
4. Ability to add unlimited apps in one folder by giving an option to scroll within a folder.
5. Improvements in iMessage (faster, more stable & reliable, also seperate the app from text messages and add option for a display picture & status updates to create a sense of a community along with option to make iMessage groups)
6. Multiple people can add images to a single photostream
7. Option to change default apps
8. Better & more reliable apple maps
9. Improvements to Siri
10. Themes

Scanning your fingerprint would require special hardware. All the touchscreen "sees" is a fuzzy, vaguely fingertip shaped blob.

separate the app from text messages

One of the great things about iMessage is that it's integrated in the texting app, so you don't need to think about what you are using to text, and, as Steve would say, "it just does the right thing".

I think if iMessage wasn't integrated in the texting app then there would be no need for it since you could just use WhatsApp (would give same functionality) and it would cross-platform.

Just my thoughts,
Pietro

You can already do this. You can tell it to just say 'New Message (1)', for example. Have a look in message settings, notification settings or passcode settings - I think it may be in there?

10. Themes

1. That's not what Mission Control on Mac is. I think you want shortcuts in the notifications centre?
2.What does elaborated view mean? An option to kill all would be nice.
3. Not sure about replying from notification centre but a quick reply for SMS would be great.
4. The problem with this is how to tell you have more apps in a folder at a glance? Maybe show a '...' in lieu of the last icon?
5. Speed, stability and reliability of iMessage/SMS is great already. If it's slow, try clearing some messages out. If it's still slow, I don't know why. Things happen as soon as I tap them on my phone. NO point at all in separating the apps from SMS. That defeats the idea. Option to turn on an auto-reply would be pretty nifty (if you're in a meeting or something?). Display pics would be great since they're there already.
6. Nice photostream idea.
7. Lots of people ask for this but I couldn't be less bothered. Use whatever app you like. Wouldn't complain if it was added though, I just wouldn't use the function.
8. Maps can be and ARE updated all the time. No need to lump this into an iOS update.
9. Vague. What specifically would you like to see? I'd love for Apple to take inspiration from Google Now.
10. Themes aren't going to happen.

----------

I'd love for Mr. Ive to jump into the OS and just update everything and bring it all in line. There are inconsistencies in the design of the OS that are just strange.

Update the whole thing. Give it an overhaul applying everything they've learned since launch but as if starting from scratch. Keep what works, update what doesn't. I trust Apple to decide what things work as they are.

1. Doesn't matter what they call it, this is a basic feature that they should have done a long time back. These shortcuts need to be more accessible.
2. Elaborated view as in show more of the app than just its icon in the multi-tasking tray
3. Reply & Delete would be a great addition, some may not use the reply option without reading the whole mail/text but delete I feel is a necessity.
4. I used infini folders when my phone was jailbroken and absolutely loved it, you anyways cannot see all the icons if your folder is full currently.
5. I am not too bothered if they separate the app from text messages or not but display pic, status updates and proper iMessage groups would be a great addition.
6. Thanks.
7. You're right not everyone need to use them, I prefer Safari at the moment but if Apple allowed users to change their default apps then developers would be more inclined to make better apps for browsing, mail & maps.
8. True but some major upgrades and improvements are required.
9. I can't point at a particular thing that I would want with Siri but I would like for it to be upgraded and improved further with every iOS update.
10. Maybe, but they can do it in an apple way. Create a theme store on iTunes, give developers kits and formats and approve each theme before it hits the stores. They could make good money out of it and still keep everything in check.
