Apple markets to affluent, intelligent, forward thinking buyers.

Android markets to ...others.
smug.jpg

My smug meter just pegged.

Both are good phones for different reasons. I personally like that Apple encrypts iCloud data, so calendars, imessages, facetime, mail is all encrypted. The government can't listen in without a warrant.

Google has no respect for your privacy. They track everything you do including what you search. They say it's to provide better service but without giving any real responses to what happens to the data afterwards leaves them suspect in my mind. Whether that's a big deal or not is a matter of opinion. To me I'm 50/50 on subject.

Android is a good OS. The problem with Droid is the rampant piracy, malware, viruses, and confusion of App location after it's downloaded. Settings menus are ridiculous and cumbersome to work with. Updates to the OS trickle in to slow if ever. As far as apps go most of them are the same. iOS does get more exclusives and timed exclusives.

So it really just boils down to what do you intend to do with the device. If you like tech specs and don't mind tinkering go Droid. If you want something reliable and not have to constantly fiddle with the thing, go iPhone.

Uhh...why are you so scared about the gov't looking at your info? Are you up to no good? I really don't think they would unless you have some illegal activity.

I'm not scared. But I take it you haven't been following the news. Our government has been listening to all phone calls and recording who we are calling and at what times. Verizon has given them full access to pull all usage from it's users at anytime without a warrant. I don't care that they listen to be honest. But it is against our constitution and violates my rights as a US citizen, which is something I do care about. Which is also why I said I was 50/50 on the subject.

We should should keep our doors open so that anyone associated with the government can come in whenever they want and go through our stuff.

In my case (ater 3 years using Android) I picked iOS for being a more stable and secure OS. I spent years of headache with Android and even thought I know they have improved the OS, IMO is not close to iOS. When is comes to the camera, I wont call them equally good. The iPhone 5 camera is way better that any Android built today. My little sister was trolling me that the GS4 had a better camera so I stop at the AT&T store and did a test.

So far I love what they did with iOS 7 then only thing I don't like is the icon design/colors, but that wont make me switch to Android.

I can't BELIEVE your post went by without one single comment. Unreal.

Let me make sure I've got this correct. You went by an AT&T store, took the picture on the left with your iPhone 5 and then took the picture on the right with the display S4. Then you posted them here for all of us to see just how crappy the camera on the S4 truly is when matched up against the iPhone 5? Have I got it right so far?

So, how did you get the picture off the S4? I mean, the iPhone 5 picture is sitting right there on your personal phone ready to be posted. But I can't figure out how you got the original picture off the display S4. Maybe you went into the browser and logged into your email account and emailed it to yourself? Are you sure you logged out? Otherwise, there might be someone out there with access to your email account now!

Seriously...the lengths some people go to to make Android look bad in comparison are just sad.

I think iOS7 will be a cool change. Looking at the same thing for 6 generations of software kind of gets old.

I wanted to give my opinions and see if people agreed with me. I believe Apple follows forums like this.

You believe wrong. Apple does follow forums other than to look for internal leaks they can bust and fire staff over.

As for your initial statement, everything a company does is a 'risk the company' project. For every company. And for every project, there will always be vocal haters crying doom. Only difference with Apple is they are such big hit fodder we see more of it.

Just like we see way more about every 'flaw', lawsuit, fart etc

Its not them finding out that I am boring, but the precedent it sets...If they get away with all this NSA BS, then they get to take it to new levels...SHIZ just got real levels.

Back on topic: I think most people will at least like iOS 7, many will love it, and a few will hate it. I like it alot, and like the direction apple is headed with iOS.

The iPhone have been an incredible success story for Apple but Android has been gaining ground for a couple of years. The Samsung Galaxy S3 was the first android phone that really swept the market. I have equally the number of friends that have the S3 as friends with iPhones.

My friends that uses iPhones prefers this phone because the software is easy to understand and the applications is visually appealing. The iPhone has also always had great hardware with good cameras. Hipstamatic and Instagram is two successful photo applications and the iPhone is the number one camera on Flickr.

But Instagram is also available on Android now and I bet Hipstamatic will also be on Android soon. Hipstamatic released the Oogl app last month and its a product similar to Instagram where you curate photos among your friends. iOS 7 is a flatter look that is very similar to Android. iOS system and default applications has lost the rich ui that many Apple users loved. I have heard for years many Apple users make fun of Androids flat interface and bits of ugly design elements.

So my reasoning is. Why buy an iPhone if you can buy an Android phone that has a similar ui, the same applications, better services (maps and voice search) and equally good cameras?

I am very disappointed of iOS 7. Apple should instead have refined the old ui and just removed the skeuomorphic design. iOS 7 looks childish and more like a game than a modern operating system. Not all of iOS 7 design elements are bad. i like how the popup notification menus look and how the notification drop down menu also look crisp but folders and control center has an over the top gaussian blur look. Icons is also poorly designed, buttons has been removed and menus look more plain. The feel of using iOS 7 is great but the design does not match the features.

Apple have recently been critiqued on maps and voice search where Google has a huge lead. Could Apple recover from a bad iOS 7 release? It's hard to review iOS 7 because its a visual mixed bag and the old ui had some very ugly skeuomorphic design elements. Some says that Apple still have time and that iOS 7 is still a beta release but if Apple wanted to improve some design elements they would have done it by now.
For me it works the other way around: by going for a, in my opinion quite radical, redesign, they have made sure that they didn't lose a customer (me) to Android.

I've never heard of anyone making fun of Android for its flat interface. Personally, I would never make fun of another UI, as it doesn't make any sense unless you're trolling.

I'm with you... without the redesign, I probably would've given Android a shot this round. I'm not a fan of the Safari, Music, or iTunes icons, but I think some of the icons look better *gasp*. IMO the following icons are an improvement.... calculator, contacts, camera, compass, photos, maps, stocks, notes, and passbook. I don't think a daisy is better than a palette of of pretty colors. I think the rest of the icons are about the same aesthetically.

Umm I don't know why you're making it seem like he climbed a mountain and swam across the ocean to get a picture off a phone. It's pretty easy, when I was younger my friends and I used to go to the Apple store and take pictures with Macs or iphones then email/text to ourselves. It's actually a pretty simple process - it can be done by 12 year olds. So I don't know why you think it's like mission impossible.

And he wasn't trying to bash Android at all. People were trying to bash the iPhone saying how the Samsung Galaxy phones have better cameras etc, so the guy was curious and went to test it. Simple as that. And the evidence is pretty clear, so no need to debate about it.

Actually that comparison was for my sister, then I decided to share it here. Regarding how I transferred the picture to my phone, I took the picture then send it via email, the phone had a Gmail account already setup.

BTW I don't have to make Android look bad, Samsung/HTC UI is doing a great job at it. :D

Well, congrats. You've now wedged yourself squarely in the Apple fanboy corner.

Funny, the fanboys around here used to bash Samsung calling their UI "cartoonish". I've wondered what they would do now that iOS 7 has raised the bar, not on functionality, but on cartoonish looks.

Guess now I know.

The fact that you posted on this thread instead of pming him means I don't have to mind my own business :).

And well, aren't you just condescending. Funny, I don't see many people on this forum "bashing" Samsung and Android like you claim, no one has certainly made a thread dedicated to it in this forum. I do see a lot of Android users bashing ios 7 though, not sure why you're even here if you despise Apple fanboys so much. This is a forum dedicated to everything Apple, so either swallow it or leave. As for your statement about Apple upping the cartoonish looks of ios 7 and none the functionality... Well a lot of people here would disagree. First of all, it's your personal opinion, so don't state it like it's some fact. Second of all, I personally think it looks simple, elegant and its functionality greatly improved. BTW if you can't tell <-- that was an opinion.

Lots of "lmfaoooo" in here... must be kicking out time for school kids :D

"We"? Are you sure about that?

Liking one thing, does not mean one has to "hate" all the others. I don't "hate" Android - it's not a person, and even if it were, hatred would be a sin. Android is crap, but I don't "hate" it, I just get along without ever considering it...

Please, have the courage of your convictions enough to say "I", and not "we" - you do not know the collective to whom you are referring.

The argument behind Apple users being mindless fanboys is quite weak.

The simple fact is that the iPhone is a great product. Everyone has a different reason why they got one in the first time. But truth being said most of us are captive market.

For instance. I have invested quite a lot in apps. Most of them do the job quite as good as the first time I got them, then there is no reason to get a different platform and invest again to get what I already have.

Furthermore I travel a lot, often staying in a single place for as long as 6 months. Getting technical support from some companies (Toshiba, HP, Samsung) is a PITA. Their policies change from country to country and in some places they don't give you support if you didn't get the product in that particular country.

The OS running in the device only amounts for little in my decision taking process. Even if I didn't like the colors of iOS 7 (which I do) would be a good reason to switch.

The value around the iPhone goes beyond its OS.
