Just updated to iOS7 and honestly I was expecting it to be a lot better graphically.

They went way overboard with the non-skeumorphism thing and basically nuked any sign of life throughout the whole iOS (and mistakenly tried to correct it with weird pastel colored icons).

Don't get me wrong, functionally it seems a lot better, but it is so god damned dull. All the small little lines outlining commands, the narrow thin text, and the pervasive use of black, white and gray with the complete lack of shadowing is just way overboard and takes "flat" to a whole new level. Just look at something like the stopwatch app (I use it a lot for running), it seriously looks like someone drew two circles on a piece of paper with the time displaying. Sure its just a stopwatch app, but why does it have to look like something out of Windows 95? Hello.. we have a retina display for a reason...

They just took the whole simplicity thing too far, and now instead of simple its just boring. Anyone else feel this way?

Wow, just got my first phone call on it. Is the slide to answer/decline graphic serious? Narrow Red text on a gray transluscent background? Looks like someone told a 12 year old to design a graphic in paint...in 1995.

Sounds like you're stuck in the past man.. Have you tried Siri out? It's leaps and bounds better than it was..

Its the most modern os in the world right now. Get with the times and out of the pool hall.
What exactly makes it "the most modern os in the world right now"? Simply by the mere fact that it's mostly recently "released" one?

I think the most important thing is the content. The home screen aside (I don't think it feels lifeless, I think it feels more alive TBH), the new design puts the app's content ahead of the OS interface in terms of focus.

Haha, yeah I really messed that one up didn't I. Not only did I forget the S but I used a 0 instead of an O. In my defense, I only got 4 hours of sleep last night.

Haha im just messin with ya.

I will agree with you on some aspects. Parts of the UI are dull, but I think that it is a nice change

Given quite a few threads discussing the same exact thing...yeah, there are other people who feel that way.

I think some (many) paid trolls on the forum... I could be wrong though... There might be trolls in real life too...

Its alive, its 3 dimensional, its fresh, its layered. Change just isn't for everyone.

So it feels like a step back because instead of further decorating apps with fluff and nonsense, Jony Ive decided to strip it back to (in my opinion) a sleek, clutter free interface that is in harmony with the hardware it runs on?

iOS 6 does not look "cool". Like it or not, Apple tries to be cool. It wants "cool people" to use their products and it wants people who use their products to think "I'm cool because I use Apple products". However, Apple has been losing its cool and a lot of that has been down to its "stale" and "dated" design. Graphic design, whether on a mobile OS, apps or in print advertising is, right now, predominantly bold colours and flat. It's what is currently "cool". Neon colours are "in" this year in high street fashion (In the UK anyway - Europe has always been less conservative than America in that field). You and maybe lots of people don't like iOS 7. I, and maybe lots of people do like iOS 7. Maybe in 5 years we will have travelled full circle and our roles will have been reversed. But right now, bright and flat and minimal is where it's at - so live with it.

You didn't read the "quote", did you?
Oops. Sure didn't :)

I think he was referring to the look and feel of the OS. I don't think there's another mobile OS that uses translucency, parallax, etc as successfully and cohesively as iOS7 does. Of course we're all analyzing a beta with glitches and such, but I think the general direction of iOS7 is great.

I agree. This is where the true strength of iOS7 will be come fall. It will definitely allow devs to do more with apps. But most people don't see that right now so it's easy to complain about the call screen...

Sounds like you don't have a new iPhone or ipad and are not getting all of the effects.

Its alive, its 3 decisional, its fresh, its layered. Change just isn't for everyone.

I wish it were 2 decisional. It would be that much easier to make one less decision.

Anyway, I think the other Oses are also "alive", "fresh" and "layered."

That has absolutely nothing to do with being advanced or most modern.

iOS7 reminds me of this:

Please elaborate.

I see a bunch of straight lines (lifeless OS?) but there is some character in the room, like the curvy chairs, chandelier, and the clock (new animations?). However the colors of this room are pale (??) but there are signs of real world textures, a la brick wall (homage to the old OS like in the Reminders app?).

I think I'm going too far with this...

Change for the sake of change (and/or essentially being "hipper"/"cooler") is definitely not for everyone.

Fresh, layered, use of translucency, parallax, etc. might all be fun and cool things, but they don't necessarily make something good or better (beyond some simply subjective traits).

Yup, exactly.

There's a lot of elements in iOS 7 that look like someone did a mockup in Photoshop, sliced it and slapped it into the OS.

OP stated the features were great. Paralax and multitasking are part of features, not looks. The physical design, is what he's complaining about.

The multitasking bar isn't a feature, it's a design and part of the UI. Multitasking is the feature.

"Only iOS7 has the power to bring dullness to reality with such elegance and grace; you can literally feel the soul draining boredom of IOS7 at your fingertips. This magical feeling of drabness is leaps and bounds ahead of its competitors."

-Jonny Ive

Well lets not go putting words in people's mouths...

I am not liking the look too much either. I definitely liked clear-and-obvious buttons to simple words with no touch-point borders. I enter the passcode on my iPad 3 and am like... well did I click right or not?

Lots of iOS 7 reminds of Android too. Can't say why exactly it just does.

I should note I have been using Android for my phones since last November--after having only an iPhone since it debuted. But I always felt I could come "home" to iOS for a phone at any time. Now I feel like I'd be coming home to another Android phone.

I hope this beta period, unlike in the past, does indeed see improvement to the overall look of iOS.
