No people are complaining about what they don't like but they don't look at the OS as a whole.

I think our reactions to how the OS looks is a valid topic of discussion. If you want to discuss the OS as a whole, find a thread that does that or start a new one.

Not everyone is talking about icons but it doesn't really matter because there are design elements that are consistent in the UI and icons. The iOS6 icons look like buttons with drop shadows etc, as do the rest of the interface elements and buttons in the apps. The iOS7 icons are flat and super minimal, similar to the interface elements and buttons found throughout the OS.

The following article sums up my feelings towards the design pretty well. iOS7 looks like a magazine (a nice one, yeah) but doesn't promote poking around and exploring like the original iOS did. It's not all bad and there are a ton of great features but this reboot feels unnecessary and I'm really anxious to see how the general public reacts to it. IMO by going super minimal, iOS lost a lot of its sophistication that only Apple delivered. The new design feels very Google-ish. They make great minimal UIs but I always preferred Apple's more detailed and partially skeuomorphic approach (not talking about FindMyFriends or GameCenter lol).

No matter what Apple does, people will complain about the design, in some form or fashion. People will complain that the latest OS doesn't have X feature that they have been pining for.

What do you propose Apple do? Switch gears and completely change iOS 7 again, because a lot of people don't like the look? And if they do, won't that show weakness, instability, and a lack of direction and focus on their part? If they do, will that once and for all make those that are not happy happy again?

Your argument is "if it were dull people wouldn't be complaining" I've never seen an argument make as little sense as that.

Cause its not dull its as bright as the rainbow. How is that dull? Please explain how the most colorful interface in any battery operated device is dull? What is dull about it? If a girl walks into a room wearing a pink, light blue, and orange dress people don't say she is dull.

I've said it a million times in this thread and someone even linked an article. The native iOS apps lack color and depth, they are polluted with white and gray, minimal lines and narrow, borderless text.

I'll link this pic again because this is what all the native apps look like, and the stopwatch is a perfect example of how horrifyingly boring it is

^ That looks like ****. Something I'd see on my MS-DOS computer from 1993. The whole OS seems to be designed around that flatness and two dimensionality when you're inside the apps.

You are just talking about the icon and UI elements colors. But other than that, it's all white, especially inside an app. Actually, it's like a tennis outfit at Wimbledon. All white, with a few color highlights.

That is a nice classy shirt. There is nothing wrong with being classy. The alternative is very android.

Trying to stay out of this particular argument because it's going nowhere but I had to bite lol:

Yeah, it's too late to revert. Apple made a huge bet with iOS7 and now only time will tell if they made the right bet. I'm keeping an open mind about the design because I know Apple has been playing with the design for way longer than we have. What I really want is for Apple to have made the right decision to to prove us doubters wrong. If they made the wrong bet, long time Apple fans should be nervous, especially if the design works its way over to OSX.

Well, I thought iOS 6 hit a nice middle ground. Colorful but tasteful.

The thing is, it shouldn't be too difficult to correct directions and revise -- add a little texture there, a little shadow here, turn some text back into lightly shaded buttons, etc.

iOS 6 was dated, old, and boring. If it stayed the same a lot, including me would have left for greener pastures.

Well, you can never keep everyone happy. You might be staying, but I might be leaving. The question is, which group is larger? Time will tell, I suppose.
