iOS 7 Now on 73% of Devices, But Adoption Rates 'Much Slower' Than iOS 6

For everyone saying they hate iOS7 can you give me some reasons why? I mostly see one liners, "I hate iOS7

I love iOS7, every aspect of it has been more intuitive and increased usability. I don't know why people are bashing it. I haven't run into any crashes or bugs.

While the graphic overhaul is drastic, I think they made a great move. I do think it needs a bit more sophistication, but at the same time I see how this differentiation of aesthetic is a move towards a new user experience. It's not perfect, but it is the first big change in iOS and will only get better with time.

When I look at iOS7 with iOS6 side by side, 7 looks so much better as a mobile interface. The simplicity is welcome change and 6 Just looks cluttered.

1. The cutesy animations are a waste of time.
2. The removal of limits on apps in folders is nice, but the ability to only see 9 at a time without scrolling is wasteful and pointess.
3. Feels like mostly a fresh coat of paint rather than making any real changes to the interface.
4. Some of the new icons are ugly.

Those are my primary reasons for disliking it.

1. My iphone 5 has shutdown on it's own twice this past week. While that's not indicative of any widespread issues, it's concerning as this has never happened with my iphone 5 on ios6, or with my iphone 4 that I've had for 2 and a half years.

2. The zooming in and out when using folders is annoying and almost nauseating, I can see how this could bother people who have more serious issues with vertigo/nausea.

3. a. The resizing of wallpapers when you turn the parallax feature on is terrible.
b. certain backgrounds make the font unreadable on the lock screen or on the home screen.

4. The new weather display in the notification center is way too cursory, not enough information and the fact that you can't just set a location you have to have location services on for it to work, doesn't this put a slight bit of drain on the battery when the old system worked fine where you could just set the location?

5. Albums within Artist View is useless, why even have individual shuffle buttons next to the album name, when it shuffles all albums for the artist, what if I only want to shuffle one particular album by an artist? i know, I can view by albums, but that's more tedious than just going to the artist tab and choosing the album from there...

6. a. When is an update coming for iBooks? I know it's not core to the operating system, but at this point you think they would have updated the app so that the design language would fit in with ios7.
b. same with the remote app

Overall, I will say that I like iOS7, it just seems like there were certain features that got overlooked, or were made worse than previous.

Last sentence makes it interesting if you don't finish it up...

You can take it either way...;)

a) They like it so much that they don't feel like rubbing salt in the wound.
or
b) They hate it so much that they don't even want to talk about it...

hm...

Touche my friend.

I can say that in my company, about 95% of inbound calls are people who are upset. Yet, when an anonymous satisfaction survey is sent out 97% are either satisfied or enthusiastically satisfied.

It's human nature. People are more likely to complain about something than they are to praise it. (especially when it's to someone who can do nothing about it)

you're going to switch to the alternative that most resembles what you hate?

No. I just used a friend's Galaxy S4 last night and its UI is so better than iOS 7! Can't even compare the two.

----------

Anyone want to sue Apple for killing the iOS 6 downgrade option? I hate 7!:mad::mad:

This firm has weird information. I looked at the iOS 6 adoption rates from a number of sources. It was at 61% after the first month. iOS 7 is at 73% after a month. How in the world does Millennial find 61 to be bigger than 73?

You cannot be serious. Even the biggest of Android fans demean TouchWiz by a derogatory nickname replacing the W with a J... I'm sure you can figure it out.

Whilst I like iOS 7 it is definitely a polarising update and this makes it sensible to see slower and lower adoption rates.

Except Millennial makes no sense. iOS 6 had 61% adoption 1 month after its release. iOS 7 has 73% 1 month after its release. So, um... are they saying 61 is bigger than 73? I'm glad MacRumors pointed out that their numbers contradict studies by other, well-respected firms.

So, now I have an iPad 1 that I can't upgrade, and an iPhone 4S that I don't want to upgrade.

Someone mentioned fragmentation?

1. I'm pretty sure the animations dont take any longer than the ones on 6. They increase usability by visualizing change.
2. I would like to see 12 in a box, but it doesn't affect me. I deleted a ton of apps after updating. I don't have more than 2 pages in a folder.
3. What I really like is control center, everything is there. Clock app for alarm, control my music, my brightness, and orientation lock all after a single swipe. I use them often. Multitasking has also been improved, but I hope they make a revision where you can zoom out to see more open apps at a time.
4. Overall I like them. The Settings icon and camera icon are butt ugly. All the other ones I really like. Especially the weather one.

1. That sucks dude, have you tried reinstalling? It's really simple. I just switched to a 5S and pretty much hit backup in iTunes when my 4S was attached, and then plugged in my 5S and hit restore.
2. I don't like how the animation sometimes skips, but it doesn't affect me as far as usability. I doubt anyone with that extremem case of vertigo should be handling a multimedia device then.
3.a. It resizes because it's not big enough of an image. You'll eventually see more parallax friendly images popping up.
b. I haven't had any problems.
4. I hope they make it more visual and not just text. As far as the location, I can't speak for how much it actually wastes battery, and how often it updates. Haven't run out of battery on a daily use.
5. I like having the albums within the artists menu. I've always felt the music app in ios (all revisions) have been kind of weird. I especially hate the landscape album view. That's just annoying. Not too much different from 6.
6. Yea, idk, but what they did with newstand looks atrocious. I'm sure we'll see some revisions soon, it's so early in the release. I doubt it's high in priority.

Overall usability and feel is a plus for me. For all my purposes they seem like they hit the spot.

I loath iOS 7
Sure, iOS 6 needed some pizzaz, but iOS 7 UI is just garbage! Steve would fire Tim if he could!
Switching to Android asap.

Why switch to android? All peopel that say they are switching are switching from what you say is basically Android, to actual android. That's a downgrade in my eyes.

I started from scratch on my iPhone 5 and haven't had any issues. I'm loving iOS 7. I know of one person who isn't running 7 yet and she didn't know about it. But she just got her first iPhone a few months ago. All of our iPads are running 7 except for an iPad 2... And only bc I haven't had time to upgrade it yet.

Of course, adoption rates are slower.

People are either waiting to see what happens, or they have seen YouTube and hate the dizzy motion.

If Aplpe gave you an option in settings to turn this off, i would bet everyone would be happy. Its cool, but you get eye fatigue after a while.

You are NOT, happy people don't go to forums to complain about how upset and miserable they are.

Lol...some people do...

IOS 7 is good, except Apple's totally lost the consistency. The lack of ".COM" key on new keyboard, sometimes you just want to use older apps that work in iOS 7 because you get the old iOS 6 keyboard back.

So two keyboards depending on the app... I'm lost already. Transition times again. *mellows out to music*

iOS 7 has some really great new features... but Jony went way too far with the whole "Flat" thing to the point where it's not only ugly... it actually has a negative impact on the intuitiveness and usability of the OS. Jony is NOT a user interface expert or even a graphic designer. He should stick to hardware. I knew putting Jony in charge of interface design would be a mistake.

Here's few things that bug me:

  • Helvetica Neue. SO ugly. You're Apple. Hire a famous Typographer to design your own custom font optimized for the screen! Don't just use some ugly font from the 1920's
  • Zero visual hierarchy. Everything is just Helvetica Neue Light floating in space. Even buttons lack outlines so you don't know how big they are or that they are even buttons at all.
  • No way to tell the difference between buttons and labels since they look completely identical. Even the difference between UI and content is severely blurred. So bad.
  • Why do I need to see through my Safari Toolbar? How does that help the user interface? How does it help to have text layered on top of text making things less readable? What's the point? There is no point, it's a ridiculous affect (yes... affect... not effect).
  • All the zooming is just ridiculous. And the parallax. Oh wow. Finally I can see ever so slightly behind my app icons. That's why iOS has been missing all these years. Another ridiculous decoration for no reason. Cheesy leather had been replaced with cheesy visual effects.
  • I just love how folder that used to hold all of my icons in a single view are now paginated (i.e. hidden) across three screens. Even on a the large iPad you only get 9 icons now! This is seriously annoying. And why? Just to you can maintain your stupid zooming concept.
  • Slide to unlock is NO LONGER A SLIDE! It's a push. You're "pushing" the entire screen. There is no slider. And people are conditioned to slide from right to left to go "deeper" into their device (i.e.... the "next" page). The combination of these three things means you sometimes have to think about what to do. Swipe left. DOH. Swipe left again. DOH!!!! Swipe up. @#*$&#@!!!! Swipe right. Ah. Frig. What can't I remember that"

Overall it's actually a big improvement. But visually (and therefore usability-wise) it's a bit of a mess. It looks like an unfinished wireframe drawing.

Still happily using iOS 6 here. Will upgrade when an app I really rely on no longer supports it!

But why, you don't like the extra features you get with iOS 7?

There are lots of changes related to icons, backgrounds, animations etc. but after a while you feel like you can't go back, because this way is so much better.

What is this a chart of?

First count me happy with iOS 7. It took a day to get use to it but I like it.

Second what is this a chart of and why does it appear to dip for both ios 6 and 7 when there is virtually no way to down grade?

Is this number of people per day? if so, I'd expect the first day to be through the roof and the line to slowly decline and as I said it seems unreasonable to think this is ether number or percent of users who have converted over time. This chart just doesn't make sense.

Only the ecosystem keeps me on Apple now.

I think the Music app alone sums up my suspicion that the development team must have been dropping acid while making iOS 7. It would certainly explain the garish colors at least.

Whose bright idea was it to jam so many settings into the bottom right corner of the Music app anyway? So now while I'm driving and want to skip a track, I wind up either:

Disabling the Shuffle All
Adjusting the Volume
Rating The Song

You know, everything except skipping the track. There's no margin for error now. And the gray and pink, gees, I'm a night driver and used to appreciate the darker, understated colors of the music player. Now it's like a scene out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I have friends, long time rabid fans of Apple that jumped ship to Droid. This is why I worry.

And after 4 years, I've done something I thought I'd never have to do with Apple: bury the default apps and replace most of them with alternatives. They are that bad.

As far as functionality goes, it IS a step up, and with regular use, I've gotten used to the annoyances. But as far as aesthetics and user friendliness, it's so offputting that I'm no longer loyal to Apple. If they're going to foist this kind of neon green, anorexic font crap on us, they better wise up and start giving us more autonomy in customizing our setups. Because I could see myself prancing about with a Droid, a Surface Pro, Google Glass and a Asus Laptop, even if I have to deal with the complications of bridging different platforms.

I never told anyone to shut up so I hope you weren't inferring I did. But as you mention, this is a discussion forum so I assume I'm entitled to MY opinion also.

I was just being curious why it is that people seem to always complain about something and always threaten to leave but never do? I'm sure if you go back and read previous posts from all the "iOS_ sucks, I'm switching to ____" you'll find the same complaints and patterns for all versions. iOS4, iOS5, 6 and now 7. If the corner pizza joint is terrible, and there's one next door... I'll stop eating there. I'm not gonna keep going just to keep complaining.

Yes. As I said before, you are entitled to your opinion. This is a good thing and I love hearing both sides. I never said you did. However, it seems that every time someone "complains" it is met with the same attitude as the one used for nutjobs with "the End is Near" signs. Is it really that implausible for someone to calmly, rationally not like something Apple does?

In this case, for a few of us at least, the pizza joint scenario is more like this:

You're a pizza fan. The corner joint made the best pizza you've ever eaten. The atmosphere, location, and service folks are awesome. Then suddenly, they bring in a new cook, who changes the recipe, combined some elements of Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and Domino's, but kept their old sauce recipe and now it doesn't taste the same. You recognize the flavor of the sauce you love, but everything else is not as tasty as it was for you (but it is still pizza, and you're a pizza fan). Next door, I have Domino's, and a Papa John's, and A Pizza Hut. They're all tasty, but now you realize that the pizza joint you know and love IS DEAD. You will NEVER taste that pizza again, because no one else makes it. Going next door does nothing for you, you enjoy the tastiness but it's not the same. The corner joint pizza was your favorite. There is nothing you can do about this. You cannot ask for the recipe; it's proprietary and thus unobtainable. But they still have that wonderful sauce, so you have to go back. Now with every bite of their pizza, you are hinted at what was, and what could've been. As a pizza fan (of that particular pizza joint), you are saddened, disappointed, confused, even a bit angry. It doesn't matter that you see lots new (or even old) people enjoying the "new" pizza, saying "mmm, this is better than Domino's. This sauce is AWESOME". Now you are looking for a new pizza joint, but there isn't one. You are stuck, wishing you had amnesia and never tasted their pizza in the first place.

So it is with iOS 7 for me.

People freaked out about iOS 7 and warned other people about its "problems." It probably started off fast with the people that couldn't wait to update and slowed down when other people heard it wasn't good and didn't update.

Big issue here that it's a one way street. I will wait for jailbreak, so I could return to iOS 6 if I want.

I love iOS7

I'm pretty shocked at some of the comments about iOS7. For years Apple was selling us Arthur C. Clarke level hardware that performed Arthur C. Clarke level feats of communication and the interface was Kardashian level stitched naugahyde.

All I can say is REALLY? You liked the naugahyde?

iOS7 is the very first iPhone operating system that matches the iPhone hardware, and the Apple store and gives some sense of the form following function aesthetic that Apple supposedly espouses. Every iOS previous looked like 1982. I can't tell you how happy I am that it's gone.

Long live iOS7!

Anecdotal. I was at a bar last night with a bunch of old friends. 3 had android. 5 had iPhones. Every person with an android bitched about their phones at one point or another. The ones with iPhones didn't even talk about their phones.

Exactly! My friend says she doesn't want to try and iPhone and then keeps complaining about her Galaxy S 3... At this point I just shake my head and go back to using (and not complaining about) my iPhone 5. :apple:
