Of course, none of us can say we have tried the real iOS 7, so keep that in mind.

The design is functional, and they are slowly increasing the use of gestures and making iOS more accessible. That can only be a good thing.

The color scheme of the stock apps is the only negative I can see. Such bright color gradients sort ruins the polished feel of iOS. Some icons they got right (Calendar, photos, camera). Others (Game Center, Music, iTunes, Safari) deserve a second glance for sure.

It is as though Apple took a step in the right direction... but leaped a little too far.

iOS 7 is finally how iPhone should have been from the start. Current Beta 4 has only minor bugs.

Great esthetics, innovative UI paradigm, great flow.

Only missing is Documents app (equivalent of Photos app, which all other apps can access with read/write permissions) and quick reply. These can however be easily added next year in iOS 8.

It`s better than IOS 6 but only because control center.

The neon icons are ugly IMO. Apple must someday give IOS a Winterboard like feature. The animations speed are faster on beta 4 than previous betas, but they could be A LOT faster, I had an Cydia tweak that accelerated animations making everything you do on IOS way more faster. The UI is too white and it feels "teen" not "classy". I still don't like the battery life (I know it's a beta) hope they improve this a lot until GM.

It feels unfinished doesn't relate to it being a beta and having bugs. It relates to the 1970s design which is inconsistent throughout. The unfinished looks relates to the abundance of white all over looking like an unfinished colouring book. The bits that do look coloured in look like the pallet that appeals to the under 10 market. The icons look unfinished like they are placeholders for better icons. The lack of icons and text in the notification centre looks like it's unfinished as if the text is just a place holder. The unfinished feel also comes from the lack of functionality which 2 months before launch, 'unfinished' isn't even the word... 'Careless' or even 'shockingly stupid' comes to mind. iOS 6 feels full, iOS7 feels empty and sparse, soulless as if they just built the house and waiting to furnish it. iOS 7 is an unfinished skeleton of lines, scaffolding for icons, outlines that need fill. It's like a blueprint with animation.

I read his post. He made some valid points ("white hurts my eyes" "too much txt instead of icons compared to iOS6") but he led off with "It feels unfinished," which is a strange complaint to make about a beta version of software. It feels unfinished because it is unfinished. That's what "beta" means.

People tend to get the "it's a beta" response when they complain about things that are to be expected in a beta, like bugs and lack of polish. But notice I said, "complain," not "comment on." We're in an iOS 7 discussion board, so it's perfectly fine to talk about bugs and sluggishness and other things-to-be-expected-in-a-beta. But to complain about them and cite them as reasons not to like iOS 7 deserves an "it's a beta" response every time.

I apologise for my previous comment, we simply interpreted his post differently. As Musio explained just above me, his comment about iOS 7 feeling unfinished was not due to bugs and glitches, but the overall design being excessively basic and empty.

Perhaps it's I who should apologize. If he meant what Musio said he meant, that the UI seemed unfinished because of its starkness, etc., then it was a perfectly appropriate observation, and didn't warrant an "it's a beta" response.

I guess only the OP knows for sure. :)

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. It looks like beta 5 came out today and brought us some much needed "color" to the white basic tone from beta 4 which is a welcoming sign of hopefully more colors to come. After testing out beta 5, this seems more like the polished version we were all looking for. Anyone else having the same experience?

I personally dislike it. It's the colours, app icons and the inconsistency throughout. Yes it has some nice new features like control center and updated app switcher but to me ios is now ugly.

Most of the color was added to the settings app. At first I preferred the older look, but now that I've had some time to play with it, I think I like the new look better.

I agree. The colors are a welcoming sign once you get used to it.

Beta 5 is working really well. Overall I like it. However I really think it would be better with a little darker theme. There is a lot of white as has been mentioned several times. Safari is hard on the eyes. It would be a simple change I think.

I haven't used iOS 7, so my opinion is based on the numerous images and youtube videos I've seen. I was horrified when iOS 7 was first revealed, but 2 months on the UI doesn't seem as tacky, but I still dislike it.
The apps have been over simplified and now contain too much harsh/boring white. The use of colour and unnecessary ornamental features in previous versions of iOS is what made it so loveable and enjoyable to use, and I don't think I would get the same feeling from iOS 7. Also, the blue text which has replaced buttons is also quite ugly and unintuitive, and the fact that it apparently takes longer to do basic tasks is rather concerning. Finally, the changes made to Calendar, which is my most used native app appears to be a real step backwards.

Despite all the criticism written above, their are some changes that I really love, such as Control Centre and the new lock screen. I've really tried to like iOS 7 by exposing myself to it regularly, but unfortunately the design hasn't grown on me, and the negatives outweigh the positives. I'll keep my iPhone 4 for another year, but I can't see myself installing iOS 7 or even upgrading to another iPhone if this is the future. Maybe i'll change my tune once I play around with it at the Apple store next month, but I doubt it.

Wow. That is a lot to say for someone that hasn't even used the new OS. I guess you can judge from the pictures...

I don't think I said anything out of line. Nothing beats playing with the OS, but I can still give an opinion on the aesthetics based on the many screenshots stored on my phone. Replacing buttons with blue text and removing the 'at-a-glance' layout in Calendar is also apparent.

I honestly think it is fairly nice looking, but performance wise it is a set back. Way back! I'm actually quite baffled by what Apple is doing 5 betas in to this. Something is just not right.

neon/pastel nightmare

I for one absolutely hate the new look. This choice really surprises me coming from a company the prides itself on aesthetics. Now every time I pick up my phone and look at the screen, I feel like I have mistakenly grabbed the phone of an 8 y/o girl. I will wait to talk about the features of new OS until I have explored them more. I am not alone, judging from all the negative reaction online about the icon colors/designs-- this is not good for Apple.

Meh. Everyone I know (which I know accounts for nothing, but opinion is opinion right?) who has downloaded it, loves it. Except one person, but she's a tad weird anyway.

I think the public reaction is largely positive, the haters will always hate, and in reality its' not different to be billion tweets about Facebooks new look 'wall' for a few days, then everyone realises they were moaning about nothing and happily go back to tending their virtual crops.

In essence, by the time 7.2 comes out, we'll all love this and iOS6 will look like dos.

Meh...

Well let me just say that everyone 'I know' despises the new look. I am firefighter and everyone I have talked in my department and my friends and FB doesn't want neon/pastel colors on their phone. You should at least have an option for changing icon colors. Maybe I (we) are not hip and techy enough for this new look or to see past it. Or is it that we are not so blindly loyal to Apple to just "meh" get used to it and not see it for what it is-- a blunder. Just google IOS 7 reviews and they all pretty much say the same thing-- "icons look clumsy and amateurish". I only added that they looked like they were designed by an 8 y/o girl, which I still stand by.
