If Apple is smart they will scrap the iphone 5S and go for an all new redesigned (& thinner) iphone 6 along with the fresh new iOS 7. I know there are some hardcore fanboys who will accept ANYTHING Apple does and that is the main reason why the iphone is going stale! A new chip and slightly better camera doesn't cut it in todays technological world.. wake up people lol

Thinner is fine as long as it's functional.

Iphone 5 doesn't do simultaneous data and voice on any decent carrier in the US, not because it isn't possible but because apple designed it that way.

Why does it need to be thinner? The iphone 5 is already to the point where you almost need a case just because it feels so thin. Keep same size as iphone 5(thickness wise) and add a larger battery.

Thinner and with curved edges makes it fit much better in the pocket, specially jeans

Tell that to Samsung, apparently the S4 is the new greatest thing since sliced bread.

It's the same tick tock cycle that apple has always used with the iPhone. It works.

Or just keep current thinness and curve the edges, it doesn't need to be thinner to fit in jeans unless you are wearing skinny jeans.

except it isn't just a new chip and camera they added a larger screen while making it no larger than the s3....

Visual interface

No rich textures? Hmm…

Just please, DON'T STRIP OUT THE COLORS like you did to Lion. iPhone can't be worked around like Lion & Mountain Lion could, so let's make sure that human beings (who depend on colors to decipher what's on their screens) can still use the iPhone!

Make it pretty - for sure!
Keep it useable - a MUST

they better deliver or i'm switching

talk about your carriers network not apple because it works fine in my country, i've been to several parts of europe with my unlocked i5 and it worked fine data/voice on gsm networks

longer screen.. big woop! lol
What is the 5S gonna have?

Is that a threat?

I think some of the development teams that worked on heavily skeuomorphic and/or heavily textured apps are kind of in disarray now. I can't imagine Ive wanting to leave faux stitching etc. in place for one second longer than it needs to be. (Not to mention his reputed habit of shipping by schedule instead of shipping by quality, just to show that he can manage projects "on time and on budget.")

But yeah, Forstall probably wasn't the guest of honor at any big farewell parties at Apple.

If Forstall was missed or employees were upset with Cook firing him it would have been leaked no doubt. The only leak we got were employees celebrating like the Giants winning the World Series.

haha..sorry to get your hopes up, but i was comparing to IOS 6.

My post was sarcastic. I was pointing out the fact that when you said "looks to same to me" it made little sense as you haven't seen "it".

You mean "it is all about design" ?

Nope. I mean it's all about software (that's what I hope for).
We've had years of great hardware updates, redesigns and new progressive designs. In comparison I feel both iOS and OSX are in need of some serious TLC.

To catch up with the hardware I'd love this year to be all about the software (with some minor hardware updates and the promised Mac Pro update on the side).

Market share is plunging, but they still make the most profits. So much for market share.

Here you go.

ANDROID’S MARKET SHARE LEAD OVER IOS EXPLODES TO EIGHT POINTS IN THE U.S.

Kantar is out with its smartphone market share numbers for three months ending in February and Android devices continue pulling away from iPhone in the United States. A year ago, iOS led Android by 47%-45% in the smartphone operating system market share competition. By February 2013, Android had moved to a 51%-43% lead.

If you'd rather see the actual numbers instead of a survey...here they are

http://www.tuaw.com/2013/04/04/iphone-marketshare-continues-to-increase-according-to-latest-com/

Apple's share has never decreased, it's always increased. In America, it's #1. Which...as Americans...we should have a little pride in! Seriously...not to say there aren't other exceptional choices on the market...but as mentioned so often, Android's 'world wide' lead over Apple is absolutely related to the 'low cost' options with Android's OS. Never in the history of Android vs. iOS has a premier/top shelf Android handset (GSIII) outsold the latest offering from Apple. Never. For a month, maybe...when the iOS device @ that current time was 9 months old and iPhone enjoyers were waiting on the latest iteration to drop. Not sure where all these folks talking about Apple's share decreasing...it's never once decreased! It's bizarre to say the least...especially for those that frequent technology forums such as MR!

Obviously there's something wrong with that strategy, on account of it making him... wrong. >_>;

It was a good guess...it's really only a 'point' update to JellyBean...it's not Key Lime Pie....and as with iOS, I think his/her point was each iPhone iteration immediately does get the latest 'actual' OS release...not so on Android, and who knows when the S4 will actually get KLP? Look at GS3 and JB or my Galaxy Note and Jelly Bean if you'd like to form an opinion! It annoys me greatly that my OG Note 1 is still waiting on JB! I'm a fan of both OS'es...but this part of Android ownership isn't fun!

Eh, last I've check Google hired all the A players. How many PhD holders do you think Apple has?

Seriously? Are you a head hunter for Google? In charge of recruiting or HR? Last I checked, the majority of PhDs are in the University system, the medical industry---or science as a whole for that matter. I think we would all agree, BOTH Apple and Google are hangin' with "A" players

Interesting...it does simultaneous data and voice on AT&T just fine here in Alaska...and I would assume that's ubiquitous throughout the Lower 48 states, no? And I consider AT&T an excellent carrier. With phenomenal speeds, decent 'bucket plan' rates for our business, reliable service...Not sure what else I need in this day and age from my carrier choice.

Buy some Levi's...Carharrts, or a pair of Wranglers man!!! In fact, you can buy 5 or 6 pairs of these for the price of them there 'skinny jeans'....and, you can fit a 'squared off' iPhone in your pocket...perfectly!

What is this ongoing obsession with the iPhone needing to be thinner?

The damn thing is already too thin if you ask me. I don't get where this constant shrink in phone thickness is going and what is the end result going to be an iPhone the thickness of a credit card?

Tell that to Samsung, apparently the S4 is the new greatest thing since sliced bread.

It's the same tick tock cycle that apple has always used with the iPhone. It works.

You really think that's the only difference between the S4 and S3? That's like saying the iPhone 5 and 4S are only different chip and camera....just incredibly uninformed and really it makes you look silly.

Here's what I see happening:
June WWDC: iOS 7 Previewed; iPad 5 Introduced; iPhone 5S Introduced
June: iPad 5 Ships/Launches
July: iPhone 5S Launches with iOS 7
September Keynote: iPad Mini 2 Introduced; "Cheap" iPhone Introduced; iOS 7.1 Previewed
September: iPad Mini 2 and Cheap iPhone Launch with iOS 7.1
November Keynote: iWatch Introduced
November: iWatch Ships
And new Mac Pros somewhere in there.

The only thing that gives me pause on this timetable is a new iPad launching without iOS 7. Not sure Apple's willing to release two new iPads (iPad 4) on iOS 6. Methinks the new iPad and iPhone will launch with iOS 7 publicly released already.

I really see no need to an entire UI refresh update. I could care less about the (new) color schemes, sounds, ways to navigate etc.

What's killing me are all the missing features....basic features...now 5+ years later still missing. *Some* of the missing features are (and I submitted them to Apple eons ago as surely did other people):

-inability to keep photos/videos from being deleted. There should be a switch in Settings do disable the delete/trashcan function. This would help when kids grab your phone or a malicious attack.

-can't send emails with over 4MB of attachments. What year is it now? Oh yea, 2013 where Gmail and Yahoo and Hotmail have 25MB limits while most ISPs have 10-20MB limits. Ridiculous, Apple.

-can't get the videos off the iPhone...well, not via iTunes anyway. Terrible! I have to hook it up TO A COMPUTER. Or I can buy an App that will *wirelessly* send them to another iOS device or computer.

-videos recorded at the wonderful hi-def on the iPhone get pushed to cruddy quality when pushed to Youtube or an email attachment. Um....why?!!? It's 2013...a 50MB video file is nothing. And regardless if it's WIFI or cell carrier, it's my data plan...let me worry about my data usage. So all these 1080 vids are essentially stuck on my camera at full quality. Therefore, WHAT'S THE POINT of having 1080 if I can't show it 1080 somewhere else?!

-video clips sent via email are limited to 40 seconds if I remember correctly. Lovely.

-browser still has major caching problems. Why does it do a full refresh of the page when I come back to my phone 2 minutes later?

-when a big web page is taking awhile to load, I want to open a new tab and go somewhere else while the other tab loads. Impossible on the iPhone...as soon as move away from the tab, the loading stops.

-still tied to iTunes...talk about lock-in

-Can only sync wirelessly with iTunes if the phone is plugged into the electrical outlet...um....why?!

-The only way to see just the videos is to go through the Camera app, click on the little left bottom corner icon, then select Videos. Why the heck can't I just go to Photos and see the same VIDEOS tab at the top?! It has been this way for YEARS! So I need to go through all these extra finger clicks to get there.

-No parental controls for websites...Apple, in their let's-censor-everything-in-App-Store can't even provide a simple black-list of 10,000 websites my kids can't visit. Or a password to access Safari.

-No parental controls for youtube...something should be available here. What about a password to access Youtube?

-Only shows last ~10 days worth of calls...WHAAAT?!

-Safari History isn't so great...stuff is always missing from 3-4 days ago. And the type-ahead feature of the URL bar is nice, but again, 3-4 days later the history. It should be more like 30-60 days or have a user setting.

-Email attachments (especially Office and PDF) cannot be saved to my iPhone...I am forced to always go back to the email. That's about as unhandy as can be.

Most of the above problems can easily be in the Settings area of the phone or each built-in app. But no...rather than give us new and more features, Apple wants to just re-paint the house.

Omg. We speak the same language. I've been complaining about several of these issues. Safari kills me with those page refreshes especially when I go back and forth looking at several pages!

If Forstall was missed or employees were upset with Cook firing him it would have been leaked no doubt. The only leak we got were employees celebrating like the Giants winning the World Series.

I think Forstall's style of alienating everyone around him made him so hated within Apple that his days there were numbered. And maps etc was his final straw and they got rid of him. Sure Forstall did a lit of good but he also did some not so good things. And I think this new iOS version 7 will remove many of the looks Forstall put into iOS.

In fact he's implying that Apple is seriously mismanaged if Apple has to 'pull' engineers from OS X to iOS to finish something

Adding man power to a development project won't help. However, adding man power to testing helps finding bugs faster, though not correcting bugs.

If you knew anything about software development in real world, you'd knew that every single software development organization on this planet have the same problems - Apple is no different because also they employ only human beings.

It's not just software development. Go to any company and people get pulled off one project and on to another all the time. If you had to rank importance between iOS and OS X obviously iOS would rank higher so that's going to get top priority.

I wonder how many more years/ revisions we are away from the full fusion of iOS and OSX. With hardware reaching a pinnacle (iPad is essentially just a screen, which it will remain, and MacBooks are screens with a keyboard, a trackpad, and ports), it's bound to happen eventually, or MacBooks may be dropped all together. By the looks of recent OSX revisions, I'm tempted to go with the former. If iOS 7 brings more OSX functionality, it would be hard to deny.
