on new iPad updating from 6.1.3...

tapped Download and Install, agreed to T&C, then get the "Software Update Failed" error which only gives option to cancel or redirect to settings.

tried 10+ times over last five minutes with no luck.

fyi, i have 4.0GB avail and says you only need 3.4GB so i don't think that's the issue...

anyone else?

Wait what? Does it require 3.4gb on the phone or just the ipad??

Preparing Update...

It should read "Preparing Update...(this process will be done "when it's done")"

:p

Do I need to stay on a wifi network once it is downloaded and the phone has restarted? At the apple logo with the white loading bar.

Thanks!

I got it on my iPhone, but not iPad. I realized apps on iPad were up to date but not on iPhone. I updated apps, including Apple Store and retried. It D/L without problem. Don't know if this was the fix or not.

finally got it working on my iphone. Now just need my ipad mini install to stop crashing.

BUT WHY did it need 3.1 GB to install? Had to delete apps and some videos to make room

Yayyy..

Finally updated! :D my iphone is rebooting. :):):D:D:p;) Waiting on ipad to get updated.

Error Will Robinson

(Fortunately, most of you are too young to know who that is. Truly the heyday for cerebral TV.... )

Anyway, I'm getting the stupid error.

Same thing happening for me. This is a crash during the process, not at the beginning.

1st time. Estimated time remaining: 45 mins. Crashed about 20 mins in.
2nd time. Estimated 1 hour...then 2 .. then 9. Crashed about 40 mins in.
3rd time. Estimated time 2 hours. Crashed about a minute in.
4th time. Trying again.

Looks like I'll have to check back in tomorrow and try then.

If u don't want to delete apps you can upgrade your phone via iTunes after backing it up

I managed to download the update, but the verification process failed repeatedly. I rebooted my iPhone and it was able to verify. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but it appears to be installing now.

Silly idea, I know, but geeze wouldn't it be nice if it just kept retrying on its own without forcing you to watch for the 'cancel/fail' alert and manually starting it again?

On the "Preparing Update" screen with barely a millimeter of bar to go... I can hear the guy in Star Wars saying "Alllllmost there..".

This is my second try. If it fails again, I'll make sure I've updated all apps, restart the phone and try again.

I'm very proud of some of you who have the patience to wait on getting the iOS, although apparently not the patience to deal with us nerds talking about it on a message board for nerds. If you are reading this, whether you are scrambling for iOS 7 at the moment or not, you ARE a nerd.

mine had finished downloading and preparing, but kept failing at "Verifying update" Tried it 5-6 times till it worked (good thing it kept the download)....installing now

Download and "Preparing Update" finished but now it says "update unavailable". Then I click over to the App Store and find a gaggle of apps needing updates. Doing that, rebooting and trying the install again. Thought you all should know what I was doing at work right now.

Just got that on the iPad. Went back into Settings and clicked the Update button. It waited a few seconds, rebooted and now appears to be installing the update (Apple logo with progress bar, on a black screen).

Worked great for me with no hiccups, took about 50 minutes total. About 35 minutes to download, and about 15 minutes for "preparing update"

Updated OTA.
