I'll say they happen less often under 8.4, but they still happen. I just had one now. Unlocked my iPad Air 2 after not using it all day. Saw that there were 8 app updates that had occurred according to the Notification Center. I tapped that an the App Store app opened and I saw there were 2 pending updates (Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint). The app became unresponsive and when I tapped the screen, it did a respring.

After that the app update was responsive, though it was in a weird state where the Excel update showed up under the Updated area, yet had a square icon to stop the update. I tapped the square and it moved up to the Pending Update area and I tapped update and it updated.

I wonder if respringing during an update causes space to get "lost" because the app update downloaded, but failed to apply?

Edit:

The Excel app ended up getting corrupted. It vanished from the updates page and if I searched for it, the only option was to open it. Doing so crashed. I had to delete it and re download.

Edit 2:

And my iPhone just resprung. I updated an app over LTE. Ran the app and while it was loading it's data over the network, the iPhone resprung.

Just had another one. Was in Facebook app. Went to read an article someone posted. It took me to the open bleacher report app or continue on to website. I tapped continue to website and crash

i really miss 8.2..rock solid..no respringing.. wah..!

had one respring on 8.4.1 iPad mini 2 retina..just resprung after updating swarm app.. i've updated the same app on iPhone but no respring happened..then i remove swarm on ipad..maybe its uncompatible..i'll keep on testing..but its become more and more annoying..

I don't have that one. I did at one point so perhaps it leaves behind nefarious remnants

I've removed all 3rd party keyboards, even though I had none active. It makes no difference.

so there may be one another app that can cause respring, you can find it on your own.

by the way..i used to have resprings when i have word/ excel / powerpoint installed..try removing them and hard reboot your phone and test like that for 1 week.

I hate to tell you, there's no "infected app" that causes this. It's just random that the device becomes unresponsive while updating apps and resprings. Updating apps don't even run while updating.

so what can we do in that situation?

Nothing. Wait for Apple to fix the problem, unless you feel like doing a restore and setting up your device as new, hoping that will fix the problem.

Rebooting periodically will keep it from happening.

i did fresh install..set up as new..nothing changed..but hopefully it's happening less than 8.3. one a week.

reported many times..hope it'll be fixed in 8.4.1.

My guess is that, like the "rare" iOS 7 bugs that happened once a week or so, it won't be fixed until iOS 9.

that really pissing me off to Apple.. i didn't used iOS 7 but same issue happens on 7.0 and it couldn't be fixed until 7.1

iOS 9 is 2 months away. and i don't know how can i be patient :)

by the way..i'm still hopeful of 8.4.1

You can try the iOS 9 public beta. That's available now.

I doubt 8.4.1 will fix the problem as last I heard Apple still couldn't figure out what was happening since there was no "crash" in the logs, plus Apple usually only fixes critical or highly visible bugs in point releases.

its much more buggy than 8.4 :)

thats a high priority bug i think..respringing one a week..an unstable firmware.they should easily find the solution..if they were really keen on their business

You over estimate Apple's abilities. For a year, with iOS 7, I dealt with a bug that caused iCloud to periodically turn off, deleting all my contacts, calendars, bookmarks and even Find My Phone. Apple didn't fix that until iOS 8 came out despite that being what I would call a critical issue.

A respring is annoying, but at least you don't lose data.

you are right in that one..but Apple always been stability oriented. in iOS 8. that's finished.. so sad.. in that case.. they won't (can't) fix that until iOS 9 came out. as you said before

Rare iOS 7 bug that wasn't fixed in iOS 8 but will somehow be fixed with iOS 9? o_O

i gave up searching what's causing that resprings..i did everything to my 5s and mini 2 retina get back to normal..but it didn't work..it's definitely clear that it's a firmware issue that's keep going from 8.3 and 8.4..and it looks like we have to wait until iOS 9 comes out..

I'm not sure what you are talking about. This respring bug started in iOS 8.3. I was referring to a different bug in the sentence you quoted. That bug was fixed in iOS 8.
