I guess everything old is new again. Flat, retro operating systems. Streaming music with a dj. To me that sounds like listening to a radio station and there are plenty of apps with radio stations. If i have to hear a dj yammering on I prefer it to be a more localized station. I prefer no dj though. More power to anyone that likes dj's though.

What's old about 'flat'? Was Apple's Aqua design language flat? I don't think so.

I don't quite fully understand this, somebody please clarify. I am not interested in streaming. I like to download all my music and keep it, and backup the files, put them on my devices, etc. So for $9.99 a month, they are saying you have access to download and save every song in Apple's music catalog, as well as stream? I've spent several thousand dollars on music from the iTunes store, so if this $9.99/month service allows you to download and save unlimited tunes, it is a very sweet deal indeed! Can somebody be clear on this? Thanks...

It doesn't work quite like you think it does. If I am understanding you correctly, then you are asking whether or not Apple Music allows for unlimited downloads of Apple's catalogue to keep indefinitely for $9.99/month.

While you are allowed to download songs for offline use, you will lose access to those songs once you stop your subscription. Also, the downloaded songs will most likely be DRM protected so that you cannot save them in multiple locations.

Think of it as renting the Apple Music catalogue for $9.99/month.

I always wait 24 hours after release before installing. I know it's nice to have new features the second they are available, but it's saved me from iOS issues in the past, as I depend on my phone for family/work/safety etc...

24 hours is enough time to see a billion posts on sites like MacRumors if there are any major issues. Plus Apple servers are A LOT faster after the first rush of downloads.

Don't see that anybody answered you so here you go. No Apple Music is not an option for you I think because you don't own the music you save to your device there is still a DRM on that piece of music unlike songs form the iTunes store where songs are DRM - Free. Unless you don't care about owning your music.

That's how several paid streaming services work, but the music is deleted if you stop using the service.

It's not what you think. The "downloading" is basically saving your playlists for offline use. You're not actually downloading songs to your computer. If that were the case then anyone would sign up for one month, download all the albums they can think of and cancel the service before the next billing date.

Like Spotify I'm sure Apple requires you to be connected to the internet at least once a month to be sure your Music account is still active. If not then your "downloaded songs for offline playback" will be disabled.

I have high hopes for Apple music, but that just makes me concerned that it's just gonna wind up being a let down when the actual product doesn't live up to my expectations.

Weird that people think it's stupid for the station to start so soon. I think it's actually a good move. Apple wants the station to already be playing when people start it. To keep the illusion of radio. People don't want to wait to hear the radio, it sends a bad message. And if you miss the launch so what? It's not like it matters. It's just a radio station.
Agreed! In fact knowing this forum people will be throwing a hissy fit saying "Apple is late getting Beats 1 and Music launched and I've already updated my iDevice to iOS9!!" Followed by angry faces.:mad::mad::mad:. LOL. This is just to add drama to a non-drama situation. :D

Implied depth created with completely flat plains is (though I hate the term) ‘flat design’. Consider the current iOS keyboard as a perfect example of this.

I think the iOS keyboard is actually a remnant of skeuomorphism with a plain look. The picture of Mac OS above has some early skeuomorphic traits, but is limited in execution by technology. I would consider it more of a rich design than a flat design, to be honest. A flat design is by definition designed to be, well, flat. No shadows, bevels, gradients and no depth. iOS and Android's Material Design have a strong resemblence to flat design but are actually still very much skeuomorphic. They're hybrids. :)

So, I have always purchased my music and have set up my playlists primarily as Smart Playlists based on Genres.

When I purchase a song, I make sure that I give it the appropriate genre(s) so that it automatically populates into various playlists. If I give a song the genre of 'Folk, Morning Music' then it will show up in both my Morning Music and in my Folk and Singer Songwriter smart playlists.

Then, I just bring up a specific playlist and randomly play the songs in it. Some of the playlists have many thousands of songs.

Will I be able to continue this practice with the paid service? Can I change the genre of a song I download?

When I head down to my cabin in the mountains of Mexico, without internet, will I still be able to play those downloaded songs?

Thanks for any and all clarification that can be shared.
