Yes, and this is the major disfunction with todays Apple. Thrown the Minions some ********, and see if any are intelligent enough to fight back. It's abusive, corrupt, and morally against the pre Tim era. Apple has become a "My way or the highway company." With many half assed projects lately. Most notable the AW which will be History by this time in 2016 as I predicted. Nothing but an iPhone accessory. In fact most of Apple products these days are nothing but accessories. Take away the iPhone and Apple goes away quickly. Very dangerous, very risky, and IMO not a company with any remote vision for the future, PERIOD. Tim is nothing but a COO in a CEO position. He still runs Apple as a COO. Counting shipments, quoting margins, supply chain outlooks, inventory time lines.

Bull Crap. A CEO is the Visionary Leader. Tim delegates everything to the Senior VP's, then watches numbers, margins, inventories, markets shares.

It's gotta change, or The AW failure will sow real seeds of doubt in investors.

Yes, I freakin miss Steve. So what? A company with no Soul is Lost. Period. :apple:

Queue the "Steve's messed up too" fanboys any moment now. :)

Larry Ellison will be proven right:

We're coming to the end of Apple's halo effects:
1. Steve's iMac intro kept the faithful hanging on until the iPod came along.
2. Then the iPod & OS X lured in new Mac users.
3. The iPhone took over from both iPod/Mac as top seller.
4. The iPad boosted everything and consolidated the eco system.
5. Steve dies.
6. Now iPod sales are barely breathing, iPad sales are in decline, Mac sales are like 5% of total revenue.
7. iPhone 6 is the sole bread winner now.
8. AW is "not so hot" http://www.forbes.com/sites/aarontilley/2015/07/01/apple-watch-sales-arent-looking-so-hot/
9. Apple tries to monetize "eco-system" by converting free into pay features. Fail !
10. Why 2016 might be like 1996. bring back Gil :)

just updated my iPad to 8.4 - this really sucks because I only have 16GB - let's hope they add this back in later.

Folks I'm sure it'll be back or a variation of it. It's not the end of the world. All will be well again.

That's what we thought about the Photos - Aperture debacle ... And look how that turned out.

Honestly, I think these issues need to be reviewed from a competition and fair trade perspective. Removing features without notice should not be allowed. Alas, Apple does not give notice because they want to avoid fragmentation. Apple should not be able to have it both ways.

I think someone needs to start a class action and the FTC needs to initiate an investigation into Apple and the content owners.

In this case, Apple is playing catchup to Spotify and other streaming services, after suffering from Steve Jobs' legacy "People want to own their music". (Jobs also insisted that people wanted smaller phones) So Apple had to launch a streaming service, because streaming has proven to be so popular.

I still believe based on the release notes that both home sharing and genius playlists will come back. Remember, Apple really alienated its pro user community when it released FCPX. Now, 3 years later, most of the features that were originally left out have come back.

Apple was clear this was going to be the case with FCPX. The Aperture - Photos situation appears it will have a different outcome.

So much for the Digital Hub Strategy...that sold so many iMacs and Mac Minis.
Their cloud offerings are pretty much...it just about works unless you are holding it wrong ;-)

This is truly unacceptable, I have purchased a ton of media from iTunes that i can't stream when I am at home.

With the lack of innovation in OSX, iPhone, when combined with their complacency and expectation of massive profits, Apple will be in for a big shock soon.

Is it just me, but lately Apple manages to frustrate me with every action they take. I used, as many other users, Home Sharing to stream music on my 16gb iPad. Now i have to pay for Plex... It seems that Apple doesn't care anymore about its customers and sees us all as piggy banks of infinite wealth.

your own home sharing solution? As opposed to paying $600 for 5 years of Apple Music with the added benefit of cloud access and 30 million available tracks? ;)

iTunes Match finds about 40% of my music library. The rest of it are commercially unavailable independent releases, out-of-print, historic, limited releases, or live or concert recordings, & vinyl transfers, from a lifetime of collecting records. I've paid collectors prices for it, and spent months of my time getting it all into the computer properly, lossless for home, with compressed sidecars for mobile, full metadata, and full artwork scans.

And, most of my time is spend beyond the range of cell towers.

Why would I continually pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars to listen to the small commercial fraction of my own music library with only the spotty reliability of cellular (another paid service, hooray) keeping it running?

I don't see how this is an improvement.

There are a few pretty solid rules of thumb when it comes to evaluating the veracity of statements. For example, if a headline has the form of a question, is is pretty safe to assume that the answer to that question is no. Or if a statement starts with "The truth about ...", we know that what follows is a crackpot idea.

And I don't see why Apple wouldn't bring back Home Sharing. It is pretty obvious that Apple still has their work cut out in fixing bugs in Apple Music, bringing it to Android etc., the current version is definitely not what Apple has even as a short-term goal.

FCPX was clearly a successor to FCP, and not a successor to iMovie. Photos however was much more a successor to iPhoto than to Aperture. With iTunes (and all its functions from Home Sharing to iTunes Match), there wasn't a two-tier service with Apple Music being a successor to only the lower tier or the the higher tier. There was only one tier and thus Apple Music will be to iTunes what FCPX is to FCP and Photos is to iPhoto, initially lacking some features but with those largely being added back to it. Photos will never get close to matching Aperture, it's way too different. But FCPX can and does come very close to FCP.

Agreed, however, we are discussing MacRumors. General rules vary by day. :apple:

Yesterday for the obligatory Independence Day weekend BBQ I discovered this, learning that not only can I no longer stream from my phone to my Airport Express, which sends its sound out to the deck, but when I switched to doing it from my Mac that the Beats1 radio station won't stream to the AX either. What??? That's really got nothing to do with "home sharing" per se...it's the ability to output my music from my iDevice to my stereo. That's a HUGE shortcoming.

The truth about your post is that it is correct.

Mind blown

I'll ask this because since I moved I have not reattached my receiver to the TV so now I'm just listening to music off my phone...

So am I no longer able to play my iTunes library that sits on my computer through AppleTV connected to a receiver?

So if I am listening my music Offline in my car and someone else is in my car with me that is considered stealing? So RIAA is going to hunt me down now for the many years of listening to the radio with friends and family. Artist are mad hungry and yet they make such garbage and people for some reason still buy them.

No, listening in your car (or living room) with your friends does not meet the legal definition of a "Public Performance".

With the advent of Apple Watch came the ability to have Siri play songs at will at my command. This is a game changer and now I am on the fence.

The only thing holding me back for switching over from Spotify is the loss of Spotify Connect. I use my Mac Mini hardwired to my home stereo for all of my sound in the house and it's great to pick up my iPhone 6+ and put music in the cue wirelessly that will play thru my Mac. It's nice to be able to call out a tune or playlist on my watch but my whole system with wired speakers is rendered useless if it only play's on my phone with no wireless way to get the audio to my Mac. Am I missing something? Any ideas, workarounds and thoughts would be appreciated greatly. Thx

I am able to use home sharing on 8.4. You just need to install the apple remote, add your itunes library in the remote settings and pair your device through itunes on your mac.

Thanks for the reply. I had installed the remote but can't seem to access anything but my playlists of my physical music. It will control basic Apple Music skip and volume function but I was hoping to use my watch to call up songs from the Apple Music catalogue and have them play on the Mac like on Spotify Connect. When I use Siri on the watch, they start to play on my phone. I can skip to the next (Apple Music) song and control volume from my phone (and watch) using the REMOTE app but can't browse or cue up a different artist or song from my phone. Am I missing an important step or just going to have to go into the house to the Mac to add specific songs from Apple Music? It's a big hardwired property. I could buy a bluetooth receiver but would have to unplug and plug in inputs to switch from phone signal to internal Mac Mini volume for using my computer to watch video, gaming, etc. I just want it all. That's all. Thanks again for your advise and your patience reading my ramblings. :)

Actually if you turn off Apple Music it is still enabled.

Just a day after the release of iOS 8.4, which includes Apple's brand new music service Apple Music, many users on both the MacRumors forums and Apple Support communities are finding that the update removes Home Sharing for music on iOS devices. This breaks the ability for users to share their iTunes Library over Wi-Fi from their mobile devices.

Apple yesterday updated a Home Sharing support document to note that Home Sharing on iOS devices is only limited to video. Thus far, Home Sharing for music still appears to be available for both Mac and Apple TV. Additionally, while the Music page in iOS' Settings once listed a Home Sharing option prior to iOS 8.4, the option is no longer there in the new Apple Music settings page in iOS 8.4.

As pointed out by AppleInsider, the release notes for iOS 8.4 beta 4 mentioned that Home Sharing and Genius Mixes were "not currently available", offering the possibility that the feature could return in future versions of iOS.

While the possibility of Home Sharing for music returning on iOS devices is there, it's unclear whether Apple would return the option for non-subscribers of Apple Music. The music service includes the ability to sign up for a $14.99-a-month family plan, which allows access for up to 6 people.
