Unbelievable. This is the final straw. I'm switching to Android. I can't understand why Apple feels it needs to force such a stupid app on to everyone. Podcasts is such an integral experience to iOS that it needs to be a stock app? Really? Who listens to podcasts? Nobody cares. Just like Health, Newsstand, Stocks, Compass, Phone, iMessage, Maps, Passbook, Reminders, FaceTime, Safari, iBooks. No. One. Cares, Cupertino. Just amazes me why they can't put in actual useful features.

Right...because the phone app is not useful at all. Why would I want to use my iPhone to make phone calls...

Considering 3rd party apps need to be updated by, uh, the 3rd parties, I'm sure Apple will get right on that.

With each new iOS update there's two things that may cause for App bugs & crashes:

1. Bugs in the new iOS release, which Apple need to fix.

or

2. Bugs in apps that are exposed by the new iOS version, that developers need to fix.

I don't understand why Apple doesn't move apps like Podcasts to the App Store. They can still pre-install those apps on their devices, but allow users to delete them (and reinstall them through the App Store). I'm getting so tired of this nonsense. The reviews in the App Store demonstrate that there is some competition going on there.

...Such as using market power as an OS vendor to bundle podcast software when other players in the market are selling it on uneven terms for more money?

You really don't understand how the Microsoft action took place, do you? Apple's Podcast app works with iTunes. Third-party aggregators like Stitcher, Downcast, etc use the exact same RSS feeds iTunes does to aggregate podcasts, they just offer a different feature set and work independently of iTunes. There is no "monopoly" power to be had. By that "logic", both Apple and Google would be abusing power by offering apps through the iTunes and Google Play stores respectively. You don't see those third-party app developers complaining about an alleged abuse of monopoly power by Apple, either.

Voice Messaging

The Voice Messaging app will ruin more relationships than Cheating and affairs combined within 2 days of actual release. So easy to send a "pocket voice message" for like 10 minutes without having a clue you did.. There NEEDS to be some sort of change. I've probably sent +50 already.

"Yeah honey, this business trip has been going great..." As he accidentally sends his wife audio of....... "Gentlemen please welcome to the stage, Destinyyyyyy!"

Prepare to be disappointed when you find out that you can't delete Chrome or Gmail or Earth or Keep or any other "stock" Google apps just like on iOS. Seriously, if *this* is what causes you to "switch to Android", I'm calling the melodramatic card.

Pretty sure the solution would be to, you know, not have an affair?

Is anyone else's iPhone 5 getting extremely hot during usage. The phone got hot while using the app store in Beta 1, but now it just seems to get hot regardless. It eventually went away in Beta one, so I'll see here, but is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, my 5S gets ridiculously hot if I charge it and use it at the same time - as in driving when it needs to be charged simultaneously due to map apps and podcasts going simultaneously. It can do one thing only without getting hot.

You can thank them for using aluminum and turning the device into a heat sink.

Apps like Podcasts were already in the App Store, as of this beta the app is now part of the default install.

When people simply lock their screen before putting the phone away--as pretty much any normal practice of touchscreen phone usage goes--then an issue like that doesn't even come up.

That said, the option to disable/enable the whole raise to listen feature for messages that is associated with recording replies as well has actually already been added in beta 2.

Not married. No current relationship. But when you text your boss an audio message of yourself watching ESPN at 11:30pm it doesn't exactly come across well. Was only using a doomsday example for some.. Regardless of the option to turn on/off the raise to listen setting, putting the Audio message button in the dead middle side of the screen will cause problems for some.

You'll be disappointed to find out Samsung phones come cluttered with their own shovelware, and lots of it.

Simple. Don't update to iOS 8.

iOS 8 beta 2

Not sure if this is new to beta 2 or not but you can dismiss individual notifications in the notification center by swiping on them from right to left.

Its a button on the side and not a huge one and needs to be pressed and held and I believe even needs to slide in some direction, not exactly something simple to do accidentally.

Since beta 1.

Audio is broken on my ipad air in beta 2. I get small hickups/pops using youtube (and properly any audio app).

Installed as new and not using OTA.

Great that they've changed the Safari redirecting things. I've been noticing that more and more lately with visiting third party sites to suddenly be shoved into the App Store to view some free app.

Also, I'm glad that's cleared up about iCloud Photos. I thought each of your devices was going to try to physically download all of your photos in the cloud and then download any changes. It looks like your photos will remain stored in the cloud but visible by your devices. I was struggling to see the point of offering 200GB iCloud storage for cheap but then making it so your devices physically downloaded all of your photos.

Yeah the Safari changes are a godsend :)

The people I work with have been yelling, screaming, crying over how abusive the app-store redirecting is, because we can't even trace the code paths without using the "emulator" on a desktop with an extension to explicitly block redirecting.

But you know who is responsible for all this in the first place are developers who try to push their free apps "instead-of" the website, because they want the iAD revenue instead of the paltry Google ad revenue they might get from the website alone.

For all that is good...

Please, PLEASE. I hope they put in a feature to disable vibration while I'm on a call. I don't need my ear vibrating when I get emails/texts when I am on a call. Just like the screen turning off, turn off the vibration mode until the call completes.

Well, as of iOS 7 they at least made it much shorter and lighter than it used to be.
