What if you don't want it to close automatically after pressing send, and what if you want to close it without sending a message? It should be a small quick reply overlay not something that looks like the Messages app but works differently.

Dude it's a concept not the real deal from apple.

Great concept. But before this, ios neeeds to stop suspending apps everytime I pull down (up) notification (control) center.

I like it...in fact it's the way it should have been all along, seems much more natural. This should have been implemented in iOS7, it would have shown to the customer that apple was thinking ahead...instead we got iOS7 with colorful changes visually but not enough useful changes underneath to wow the customer. We got things that were nice but not "oh wow"

I still can't get past the fact that apple had 1 full yr from the last iOS to make iOS7 perfect from the start with added features like what we see in this video and yet iOS7 just seems it was rushed out for the customers to test it.

Great video, Apple should hire you!!

Suspending apps?

It looks like there is a cancel button on the top right so that you can exit out of that quick reply screen without sending anything. If you wanted to actually stay on the screen after quickly replying you probably would simply tap on the notification itself to begin with (as you would now in iOS 7) to go into Meassages app to reply and stay in the conversation.

Nice looking concept!

Just a question though, isnt it easier just to explain the idea in words rather than going through the work to make that video? :)

Of course, but how would that convey the elegance and inuitiveness of this concept when correctly implemented? Some people value proper demonstrations over easy explanations. ;)

Interesting concept. I like how you kept it simple and restricited yourself to existing UI elements only.

I have one concern however: you use an 'overlay' which is basically the app. Kinda like how you can send mail from within other apps. I think this may blur the line between apps and the OS and I have the feeling Apple wants to keep a firm difference between those two.

If Apple were to introduce something like this, I think they might not fill the screen but use a 'card' like overlay (like how you could send tweets in iOS 6). This would keep the difference between the overlay and the app very clear.

I like the idea but not the implementation so much - when a notification comes in you can currently drag upwards from the bottom to dismiss it. It would make more sense if rather than having to click 'reply' you'd just drag down, like you would with notification centre. Reply to message, wait for another reply or drag back up to complete and your running app is underneath.

I watched this last night on some website via my Apple/Flipboard box.

VERY COOL.

I feel I got the whole concept but...if you want to ignore or close the notification, just swipe up and it goes away like normal...click REPLY/whatever else might be there and it does the Overlay Quick Response...then if you want the full features of the notification App, you click the notification (anywhere but the REPLY button)?

Lovely video las well.

This looks really good and hopefully Apple will realize this and implement it in iOS 8!

That would likely get in the way and be inconsistent with the notification center use which comes down whenever you pull down on a notification (as it does when you pull down from the top of the screen in general).

Quick reply has long been available to JB users and is one of the few reasons left for me to still jailbreak. I'd be surprised if it didn't make it into iOS8.

So the overlay wouldn't have the full functionality of the app itself?

It would act just like when you share something (say a photo from Photos app) via messages. Once you press send the barebone messages overlay is dismissed

I like this, however I don't think it would work well as an API for 3rd party notifications, because there would be complications with the overlay and the way it's dismissed when the message is sent etc., as other apps work differently.

I think it would have to be a a generic text box, like you see in Mavericks notification reply (which works with 3rd party apps)

I agree. It should be a text box instead of an overlay. The overlay would have to be designed for every app that would use it.

Let me see if I understand this.

-Notification banner pops
-User clicks the banner which in turn opens the app responsible for the notification.
-User does what he/she needs to do and then presses home to return to the app they were working in.?

So you're basically eliminating the step in which the task switcher is activated and the user clicks the previous app they were in. It's a great idea.

If I play Devil's advocate for Apple I would say "The home button's functionality will cause confusion because in this case it does not take them to the home screen".

Honestly, this is the sort of reason why the iPhone needs a 2nd button.

Dont they have jailbreak tweaks for quick reply (perhaps not exactly like this, but similar enough)?

The only one I've ever had that actually worked/was decent was BiteSMS and I'm not paying to use a texting app.

Plus I like the core OS integration this one has.

Core OS integration?
