Accuracy

I think Ryan nails it because even if Yahoo is getting their info from TWC, I never find their info as reliable as the one from TWC app. And I live in LA so it's not as if we're some obscure city.

I hope so. I live in Chicago by the lakefront. Yahoo!'s weather app quotes temperatures at O'Hare airport - often 10+ degrees (F) different - even though I selected the location by zip code.

TWC/Weather.com seems more accurate.

It's about time.

All I can say is ****ing finally. I'm wildly speculating here, but if Yahoo! was getting their information from TWC, then Yahoo! was unnecessarily serving as a middleman between TWC and the end-user on the iPhone.

Which at least in my case and many of my friends resulted in horrible update times. For example, I'd open up the app after it had been raining for nearly 30 minutes to get an update on the forecast only to find that Yahoo! was telling me that it was still sunny in my location. The official TWC app has never had such issues.

I don't understand how some posters are reporting Yahoo to have inaccurate weather and how it's a good thing it was replaced by Weather Channel if Yahoo was taking TWC's feed anyway? Was Yahoo somehow manipulating the weather between their feed from TWC and what was displayed?? More than likely the app was not refreshed, the GPS was off, etc which led to the discrepancies. Strictly from a weather reporting perspective, this should be transparent...

My problem with the built-in Yahoo/Weather app was the incessant attempts to hijack the default search engine.

No, I don't want to change my search engine to Yahoo.

I use the WeatherBug app for radar images, though their "hourly" forecasts aren't terribly dependable -- especially wind speed is almost always understated.
Where does that type of "hijack" even come up?

I ditched the built in weather app for The Weather Channel app years ago. I will probably continue using TWC app, since it will probably still be way more detailed.

How have they got giffgaff working on iOS 8? I just have a perpetual "Searching..." label, even on the 16.2 carrier settings update.

Edit: I am currently re-restoring my iPhone so I'll update from the phone and not iTunes this time.

Edit 2: No luck.

Edit 3: Okay so I forgot to try restarting the device... it now works, if anyone was interested.

Bad move. This reminds me of when Apple ditched Google Maps.

Yahoo has a beautiful weather app, it's the only weather app I use. And I find it to be very accurate.

Good move Apple! Cut out the middle man, you get better response times when you go straight to the source.

Bump the lower left hand corner of the stock Weather app, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

More interesting is the note telling me that "Do Not Track" is no longer enabled on Yahoo, and my "experience" is now "personalized". Unbelievable.

Weather Underground is better than either one. Lots more stations feeding the grid so most users can select a reporting station very close to them for current parameters (temp, humidity, dewpoint, pressure, rain and winds) plus my testing has shown the Weather Underground forecasts to be more reliable/accurate.

Yahoo! gets its search results from Bing.

Yahoo! is currently under a (I think 10-year) contract with Microsoft to get search results from Bing. Yahoo! would just be the middleman again as a search provider.

It's always been way too inaccurate to use. Dark Sky is very accurate, but I don't know from where they get their data. They've been predicting temperature and rain with outstanding accuracy, and usually within minutes of hitting.

This new app looks like ****. No elegance. It looks like they just crammed as much information in there as they could.

And yet, it isn't. Funny. I stopped using the app years ago, because it could never find the right Minneapolis. So, this won't affect me at all, I use a different app.

I'm perfectly okay with this.

I stopped using the default weather app when I realized it was usually less accurate and gave me less details. Which wouldn't have been so bad if it at least brought up the website (even Yahoo would be fine) when you clicked on it. Instead it searches the web for "New York, NY"...which doesn't give you much information.
