What's strange is that the Yahoo weather iPhone app gets its data from Weather Underground. . .why would that be?

The Weather Channel sucks. It's always off in my area.

Weather Bug is the BEST weather app around. 100% accurate all the time.
Christ, it's more accurate than my local weathermen.

+1 for WeatherBug

These comments are quite humorous, considering that neither Weather Bug, Weather Underground, Yahoo, the Weather Channel, and not especially the people on your local TV stations, are doing their own forecasting.

Which is owned by TWC.

None of which actually matters one iota.

I use Dark Sky as my primary weather app, but if I need a quick summary of the weather for a particular day, I'll fire up the stock weather app. I will admit, it will be a bit refreshing to see TWC supplying the weather data over Yahoo. I found that the data Yahoo provided wasn't always accurate.

That being said, it would be nice if the weather app introduced notifications for severe weather or any type of precipitation. But then again, Dark Sky takes care of that for me.

The weather for our area was never accurate. I prefer NWS. Besides The Weather Channel keeps promoting the man made climate change scam.

I avoided using the stock Weather app on iOS because a lot of the time the weather was inaccurate, even down to the hourly 24hour forecasts. Often ended up wearing the wrong clothing when going out because of this app.

Much more accurate in the UK is data from The Met Office - found it very accurate, detailed and reliable. Their iOS app is decent and they are the main providers for weather forecasts in the UK and used by the BBC.

Sticking to The Weather Channel was a crap move by Apple, especially for the UK at least.

I dont bother with dedicated apps for weather when I just make an icon from national weather service web page for my area and put it on the desktop. takes less space too.

Weather Underground and Weather Bug are the only weather apps I use. WB has a station across the street so I get the most accurate conditions where I live. WU has the absolute best forecast graph using the "BestForecast" vs. NWS

I'm just annoyed that Yahoo! Weather decided to lump all of Los Angeles County into one location one day. They used to separate it into the cities, like Downtown Los Angeles, Studio City, Santa Monica, etc. And the temperature across the county varies a LOT.

In the UK (and quite a few other countries now too), the BBC have recently released their free weather app. It is from the Met Office so is pretty accurate and beautifully presented in an easily digestible manner, with some useful extra features too - if you are in Europe or the UK I would thoroughly recommend it.

What forecasting are they using (assuming they can all have at least somewhat different forecasts most of the time) and who is using some sort of "better" forecasting?

I'm so glad they cut out Yahoo. They've been running some extreme clickbait titles on their main page as of late.

Weather.com (TWC) does the same thing; drives me nuts! But their weather is more accurate, at least!

The NWS uses a suite of models for their forecasting, about five or six of them, models that have taken decades to develop and refine. The commercial services are not running their own models, at least not in any significant way. They are repackaging forecasts from the NWS, some doing a better job at it than others.

cool opinion. thanks for encouraging discussion.

what they should do is to have local sources for weather data in different countries instead of using one single data source for every country in the world. that's just lazy.

e.g. Forecast data from an American source is usually off when it comes to weather in Australia.

I deleted their apps because of this crap and got tired of seeing in the Facebook timeline, I got rid of them there too. They are hook, line, and sinker in that global warming farce.
