I'm well aware of the differences in memory quality.
The popular price breakdowns of the actual media that apple uses has in the past revealed that their memory chip costs are just a couple dollars. I think my point stands.

How do you know the 16GB device is not steeply discounted :)

Am I the only one disturbed that one of the most interesting new features of iOS 8 doesn't exist and no one has commented on it? You can not open files from other Apps. That whole mechanism is missing. It is still shown on Apple's website :https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/icloud-drive/

Start your work in one app.
Add the finishing touches in another.
Your apps can now share files, which means you can access and work on the same file across multiple apps. For example, you can create a drawing in a sketching app, then open it in a painting app to color it in. Or create a chart in one app and place it in a slideshow using a presentation app. No more making copies or importing documents from one app to another. It’s a whole new level of collaboration among apps.

I have upgraded to iCloud drive and have the latest version (2.4.2) of all the iWork apps and none of them support this. They all use iCloud the exact same way they did in iOS7 and they all export files to other apps the exact same way they did in iOS 7.

The plugins aren't out yet and/or the apps haven't been updated to use/support ICD yet. I expect we'll see this in app updates over the next several weeks.

The OS X piece doesn't come until Yosemite, likely in October.

I understand some apps are not updated. However, Apple did update all the iWork apps and they all say they have iCloud drive compatibility. It sounds like they just did the bare minimum to get them ready. You would think with a big new feature they would at least have their Apps ready to showcase it.

2.4.2 of numbers released yesterday (for example). It works exactly the same as 2.2.2 with iCloud drive. They both treat it just like the old iCloud. Why have these releases and list iCloud drive comparability on the top of the list if they didn't actually do anything.

Free storage to upgrade

"and almost 7 GB of free storage on an iPad for installation"

My 16 GB iPad update crashed. I got a message in iTunes saying I had to do a restore which I did. To my surprise during this process the iPad booted IOS8. Apparently the iPad was wiped clean then IOS8 was installed then my stuff was restored.

Ok so it's a bit misleading to say people are forced to chose between deleting stuff or not downloading the update. Unless there's lots of people out there who don't own a computer and don't have access to iTunes?

Yep, these iPads are certainly a computer replacement for the post pc world.

Bought three SDHC chips AT RETAIL for a trip two weeks ago. well respected brand, class 10, etc. 19 each. now go sit down.

Is Apple's flash that slow? I don't know, but you seem to have some source to indicate it is. Class 10 is very dated now and caps out around 30 or 40 mb/s.

It all doesn't matter. No on believes the cost delta for flash is anywhere near the $100. However, the alternative is probably to charge more at the lower end which does not make a lot of sense.

Holding out for JB on iOS 8

Does anyone know if there is a way on iOS 8 in the email settings for html attachments?? For my biz I like to have my html done logo in the email signature so when replying from iPhone is still looks professional and has the company info there.

Right now I have 7.1.2 JB and an app called Mail Enhancer Pro that allows you to add html signatures and color coordinate different email address for ease of sorting through them. I have 6 email address on iPhone.

edit: I may try this to see if a logo will show up

Edit2: doesn't seem to work as well as the JB app Mail Enhancer Pro....going to wait for ios8 JB for that and couple other apps I use daily.

I still haven't gotten any notification to download ios8, even though I manually checked and the update is available. Maybe that's why there's a slow adoption. I remember getting notifications for all the other ios updates.

Actually, Apple never release that information. The prices are from sites that "think" they know what Apple is paying, but really have no idea.

Good for you. I recently bough two cards for $45 each at retail and opted not to go for the $95 cards as I'm happy enough with the slower cards.

Although I'm still not sure what this has to do with downloading iOS 8. /shrug

Wow, I'm impressed! You can actually tell the difference of .3 seconds for most of these? I can't tell on mine in actual use. Maybe that's what most people are saying. In real world use, there isn't enough of a difference to notice. Anybody can spec something out, but when you are talking literally tenths of a second to do something, that really is no difference. And please don't quote me the 3 second difference to boot. Who cares?

Oh, and it is obvious from all of your posts that you seem to hate Apple, so why are you here?

bla bla bla... it's double the loading time for almost everything on the 4s

So math not the strong suit? Let's look at the numbers:

Safari 42% slower (the worst, and still not double)
Camera 17%
Settings 24%
Mail 30%
Messages 5%
Calendar 36%
Cold boot 9%

Not seeing the double anywhere, but you go ahead and keep talking BS. And again, exactly why are you here?

Yea I'm having trouble finding 5.8 gb of free space for sure.

As has already been mentioned many times. Use iTunes.

Because I'm a Mac user and this is a Mac forum. Seems logical doesn't it.

Actually, this is an iOS 8 forum. It just seems that every post you make denigrates the iPhone in one form or fashion. Why? If you don't like them, then don't post.

Just because I'm an Apple user (and I like their stuff the best), doesn't mean I have to blindly praise everything the company does even if it's clearly not good.

In a world where everything is great, the word great doesn't have any meaning anymore.
