Just give it a little more time, be patient. It's a young operating system. Nobody really loved iOS 7 in the beginning, but in the end it was a great product, and iOS 8 is just iOS 7 with brand new features, so I'm sure you will like it in the end if you use the features to your advantage.

Trust me, I was very skeptical early on, I even have a thread for it. But, as im using it, I am absolutely loving it. This is an amazing update. The new messages app is awesome, and quick reply is brilliant, i use it all the time.

Hope it grows on you, just give it a chance. I was so scared to dwonload it and now after not even a day of using it I am in love with it.

EDIT:

And hey, let's keep the bickering down. Too many people bicker on here, so let's show some respect for others opinions. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion.

I wish you wouldn't respond in a matter that makes it sound like I'm self centered and impatient. This is an official public release that we all waited on for one year and the expectation was that everything would be ready day 1. At no time did Apple say that it will be half way ready at launch. Furthermore, I understand that this is a developer centered release and I get that and understand that it will take time for all apps to get up to speed.

Beating me over the head for being displeased with a half ass launch though is not appropriate.

Well now I'm confused. How can you say Apple was going to have everything ready at launch for iOS 8 when you know that most of the features depend on Yosemite which releases a full month after iOS 8? Your logic isn't adding up.

Apple didn't have to say it was going to be half released. It was implied by the different launch dates of the OS's. I'm sorry you couldn't see into that.

I've always said iOS 8 is going to be great...once Yosemite releases.

IOS 8 has amazing potential. I love the idea of the new features, I just think that they should have worked on it a little while longer...

But god forbid that thy release a new iPhone without updating iOS, or push the expected iPhone date by a month or 2...

It can't be easy planning  release cycles... damned if you do and damned if you don't...

I guess my only suggestion would be to expand the beta program in future releases like they have with Yosemite... at least if people are running a Beta version they can expect a certain amount of wonkiness..

I don't believe the OP is talking about Photos specifically. He's talking about iOS 8 in general.

My issue with the photos app is the implementation of iCloud Photo Library which Apple dropped and hasn't said a word. They mentioned Healthkit, SMS Relay, Continuity, etc. but nothing about why the Photo Library portion was dropped. Therefore I voiced my concern. I even argue against the "missing camera roll" and defend the change.

You're trying to pick a fight with me for no reason.

full of it.....

"Because now I don't have to worry about which device I took the photo on? If I'm on my iPad, I can see all my pictures whether or not I took them with the iPad or iPhone or wi-fi transferred them from my Fuji cameras. If I'm not mistaken, this is how iCloud has always worked since Photostream launched way back when.

The added bonus is that I don't have to manage 2 "camera rolls" in iOS 8 (the original Camera Roll and Photostream)! It's now one big stream of photos. This alone is how it's superior! "

I agree with the OP that the rollout seems a bit of a shambles so far. So many things are unfinished.

Really, Yosemite needed to come out first.

I'm glad you take such interests in my posts. But I'm done replying to you.

then don't release it to the PUBLIC.

Oh hey, these really awesome features are coming to iOS 8....our bad, just be patient we decided not to release most of the stuff. No worries!

No wonder there are android people that bash apple people like crazy. they have to put up with non sense from someone like you.

I don't give a rats rear end about android people. I happen to like IOS 8 and the updates it brought to the table.

Apple sold millions and millions of iphone 6es and in my opinion they released IOS 8 at the right time.

1. You can EDIT your SETTINGS(app)/General/Keyboard/Keyboards settings to move the keyboard you wish to use most up to the top of the list. That makes it your default keyboard. You can then either cycle through the other keyboards with the Globe key at the bottom-left of your spacebar, OR remove the other keyboards once and for all.

2. Health app - yea it needs a little break-in time, but it also needs a little set-up time from you, to get started.

3. I agree that Apple should have released iOS 8 and Yosemite and the same exact time. Absolutely. I guess the only thing I think about to disclaimer that tho is that just releasing iOS 8 alone brings the Internet (and Apple servers) to its knees. To concurrently release both OSs at once would absolutely murder the Internet and its pipeline providers. Hey, it is what it is. October 21 look like Yosemite time tho, have a little patience?

First of all, let me start out by saying that I enjoy Apple products and love their vision and thought process when it comes to producing products. With that said, iOS 8 is just flat out disappointing so far. Most of the great features you can't use or are problematic at this point. I was looking forward to 3rd party keyboards, but trying to use one is a pain because it constantly reverts back to the default one. Healthkit? DOA. iCloud Drive? They say you are better off not using it until Yosemite ships. Hell, what about folks that don't even have Macs? They need to wait too? Lastly, waiting for Apps to take advantage of extensibility. Ugh.

How do you all feel up to this point?

His gripes are warranted but yours aren't.

I'm disappointed with ios8 too. Considering this was geared towards developer with not much customer facing features, I thought it would be more like a Mavericks type release where they focus on speed and performance.
However, My iPhone 5 feels sluggish on iOS 8.

How do you all feel up to this point?

Actually, I think the fact that iOS 8 feels more like a point release (e.g., 7.2) rather than a full major version update is entirely intentional.

Underneath, iOS 8 is perhaps the biggest iOS 8 update so far. Yesterday, I felt like it was Christmas with so many exciting app updates from 3rd party developers, all thanks to 3000 new iOS 8 APIs.

Coupled with larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, many Android phone users are starting to defect to iPhone in drove.

This. This is exactly the issue.

it's not hard to see that you are griping in one thread and being high and mighty in another...bc they are discussing the SAME topic i'm interested in. i'm glad...who knows what you'll contradict next

I'm sure by the time 8.1 is released, iOS 8 will be polished and humming along. Was just expecting more at launch.

This. Give the Devs some time to really get the apps working with the new APIs and I think iOS8 will mature quite nicely. I love the new Safari on iPad complete with less crashes and all (the tab overview screen is my new personal fav).
Health is essentially a blank slate but I see it becoming quite a thing once people really start making products that use it properly.
I felt iOS 7 was a bit awkward, if iOS 8 was released as 7 then I think more people woud be have warmed to it quicker.

tl;dr I like it.

Still got more than what iOS 7 had, even though not everything planned/promised (yet), so that's already an improvement. Performance/stability stuff, well, unfortunately also fairly typical of a x.0 release, so nothing new or unexpected there really either.

WOW, Razeus has really copped it in this thread. It's probably sensible not to side with him at this point.. but I kinda agree. HealthKit isn't launching, SMS relay isn't launching, iCloud Drive launched - but developers worldwide are telling us not to enable it if you're still on Mavericks. MR themselves said 4S owners should skip the update due to performance issues.

I'm not even getting into the whole "7GB needed to install" issue. Apple seriously F-ED up, at least when you compare it to the seamlessness of previous releases.

The adoption rates kinda say it all - measured hour for hour with previous releases, it's the worst adoption since iOS5 (MR posted about it earlier).

No I'm not impressed at all. However I'm more annoyed with the bugs. However I'll give it time. It's not my daily driver so I can afford to be patient.

MY phone has crashed twice in 24hrs... And it looks like most of the new features a buggy as #$@@...

It feels like a beta... Me Thinks it's time to be a bit more flexible on the annual OS release cycle...

After almost 20+ years of much of the population using computers and software, shouldn't people realize that software could be in beta for years, and no matter what, new bugs and glitches will be discovered when it's released to the public? It's just the nature of the beast. No matter how many beta testers or testing, you cannot possibly fix every bug.

On top of that, the majority of this release was new APIs and features for developers. It takes developers time to take advantage of these, but they're going to be huge.

The rest of this thread just reaks of whining about first-world problems.

Nobody forced you to click "install" with a gun to your head either. So there...

Exactly, I don't get people complaining about updates, it's like this, you buy an iPhone 5S with iOS 7, that's it, nobody promised you that it would work flawlessly with iOS 8, you bought an iPhone 5S with iOS 7, that's the perfect software for the phone you bought, don't like, when you buy it they give you a month to try it and return it.

Want to experience iOS 8 the best posible way, buy an iPhone 6.
