what does it matter

iOS is colossally slow on my iPad Air. Safari takes forever to redraw when you scroll.

Such a great feature, something I missed from Android. Too bad it logs all your keystrokes and even credit card numbers. That's the only thing that concerns me.

Do you think Android keyboards couldn't? The only difference is Apple's warning you that it's possible.

If you don't mind giving someone every keystroke, maybe! You ever wonder why it's free?

I am likewise intrigued and happy to try out these new keyboards. While still awaiting a keyboard with a tab key, I confess being alarmed by the amount of battery energy these keyboard apps have been sucking (as reported by iOS)… It might be because they phone home all too often. At any rate, battery drain and privacy considerations discourage me from continuing to use them, much as I do type much faster on them.

I would never change an apple keyboard for something that originated on android.

Like wise. I installed Swiftkey on my Android Tablet and it requested access to ALL of my information. I noped straight to the un-install menu.

Then people could argue that you're being arrogant. Does your experience equal to all users? There are legitimate concerns given the fact that the only way you'l really be able to utilise these keyboards is by giving access to internet and everything you type.

Totally agree with you on this.. Looks cool but I saw that message and was like nope no thanks. App now deleted...

See? This is what you get when people are blindly loyal to one brand. Derp.

If any of you had ever actually tried Android (and don't go posting that you have, I'll just turn a deaf ear), then you'd know that the EXACT same thing happens in the Play Store with regards to keyboard. When you activate the keyboard on your phone after downloading it, you get a popup that states information could be sent out, including bank numbers and credit card numbers. However, it isn't. Ever. This is just a standard warning that all app stores provide to cover their own butts. And yes, this now includes Apple's App Store, you poor sheltered people.

You all really should get out and try things for yourself and stop cowering in the corner or worse, spreading falsities by fearmongering.

Before you call me an Android fanboy, know I currently own the 5S and will be the owner of a 6+ as soon as I can get my hands on one. I just wish people would stop being so close-minded about platforms. They're both great, they both get you where you want to go, just in different ways. Stop the freaking insanity!

I would say that this is silly fanboyism, but sadly, the keyboards have actually been by far the biggest annoyance on my Android tablet and have cost me quite a bit of time (and money), and I still haven't found a solution that comes anywhere close to the ease of use of the iOS stock keyboard.

What are you talking about? Fanboism? What is that? You yell fanboy then agree.

I am a huge fan of swiping keyboards back from my android days, but 1 thing keeps bugging the crap out of me.

The themes and look of these keyboards just look bad in iOS. Quick Reply/Spotlight is a black keyboard, so depending on the theme this can look good or totally odd with a white keyboard.

Same goes for messages with a black keyboard just looks weird and disjointed. While the apple keyboard does either black or white depending on the program, I hope third party do the same or at least give a dynamic option.

Also the Keyboard delays when accessing spotlight and messages are bad. I am thinking this will get cleaned up in further updates to iOS 8 or updates to the keyboard apps.

Until then I think I'm sticking to the Apple Keyboard for a little while longer.

Get off your high horse. I've used plenty of Android devices. I just don't like, enjoy, or approve of third party alternatives to system components. So forgive me if I'm not intimately familiar with the idiosyncrasies of certain keyboard installations.

All keyboards are broken on my Retina iPad Mini. Doesn't matter if remove and add from settings, reinstall the apps, or reboot. Lame.

they all are and feel like version 1.0. will wait a few updates before trying them again.

yes and no, they have been making 3rd party keyboards for android prior to now, so unless there is some huge hurdles to develop those same keyboards for iOS they have had some expierence in doing it

i tested some of the hyped keyboards, but actually im not faster in writing than with the new oem keyboard. to be much faster than oem, one must learn each and every shorcut for every single new keyboard... i find it quite annoying. and what about the swipesh**? how could this be faster? the new oem keyboard is awesome!

beside... on the new keyboards i cant comfortably access my emotes... after i use the emojis he throws me back to the oem keyboard and i have to manually switch to swift again. seems like none of the new keyboards has its own emotes?

any solutions? help appreciated.

Swift key is super buggy so are the others I went back to the Apple keyboard cause they stopped coming up when they were supposed to

Im not having this issue at all and I have tried and installed Flesky, Swift and Swype.

So somehow by saying that you own a 5S you get a pass from being an arrogant ***? There's nothing false about it and to be honest, I find it laughable that in this day and age, one would actually ridicule people regarding privacy, when it's so incredibly evident how your privacy can be compromised.

I never criticised or even mentioned Android in my post, so please don't include my post in your mindless rant.

Who's to say I haven't tried it? Word of advice, don't act like a petulant child if you ever want to be taken seriously.

I tried all the free ones lol, and I like SwiftKey and TouchPal. If TouchPal had a dark theme like black then that would be my favorite.

Does anyone else find it massively slower typing with a swipe mechanism than with standard? Way more errors too. Now I know some of it will be a lack of familiarity, but i've been using it for nearly 24hrs now, and it's still taking me approximately 1.6 times as long to type something by swiping than with keypresses

And that's when there's no errors.

TOTALLY!

it seems like you have to really learn how to type with the swipe keyboards. so for me its pretty useless... the new oem keyboard is awesome by the way.

I definitely don't like swiftkey, it's pretty much the same as the stock keyboard. Plus it takes away the Siri functionality!

Once you get used to the Swype-style keyboard, it's hard to go back to anything that doesn't do that.

Much faster than stock iOS keyboard.

Not sure I agree. A lot of people don't realize that the stock keyboard recognizes word key patterns. So if you type "buje" it will autocorrect to "bike". In fact if I type a sentence or two quickly without even looking at iPhone keyboard then I'm surprised how often it ends up perfect.

Is there a way to set predictive texting for the stock keyboard? It keeps switching on and off depending on the app. Also is there a dark theme for the stock keyboard?

um. learning curve. i've been using swype for at least 6 years and do about 65wpm now - if you have the tenacity to stick with it it takes about 6 months to get reasonably good. until now, those of us coming from android and windows mobile and swype have been appalled with the slowness of input in iOS. you're never too old to learn something new. enjoy!

now that i think about it, when i switched from android to iOS last year, it was only after reading that i could install swype keyboard with a jailbreak. then to my dismay, after spending $1000 on a freaking phone, i found out that there wasn't any swypelike keyboard for iOS7 even jailbroken and i have been simmering with anger ever since, until today. if Apple had not allowed swype in this round, i never would have considered ever purchasing another iOS device ever again.

I got the full access warning message on swiftkey, but not on swype. Do they send keystrokes to their server?
